New Movies at the Box Office from Cinema Static 2011 logo 475w lq

This week the new movies coming out on Friday, December 9th, looking to do battle with vampires and Muppets include  include actors such as  Michelle Pfeiffer, Gary Oldman, Jonah Hill,  and quite a few more.

But will any of these new movies contend with the box office top-10 movies right now?  Maybe.  I can’t imagine they won’t at least show up on the chart unlike last week’s new contenders that didn’t contend.

Farther down I touch on production status of some of the more anticipated movies coming out next year (If there are any you are interested in, lemme know, I can look it up.) and a little movie news to boot!

First up of the new movies this week,

•      New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve is directed by Garry Marshall (Valentine’s Day), and written by Katherine Fugate (Valentine’s Day & on TV: Army Wives).

The cast includes a rather popular ensemble, like Michelle Pfeiffer, Zac Efron, Robert De Niro, Halle Berry, Cary Elwesm, Alyssa Milano, Common, Jessica Biel and many more!

If this one is anything like Valentine’s Day, it should be a fun film to go see.

24‘ Movie News

Inside TV is reporting that Brian Grazer is on board with producing the long gestating 24 movie that would star Keifer Sutherland as Jack Bauer.  Brian Grazer’s production company that he is co-owner of (Ron Howard is the other owner) being the production company makes sense, as Inside TV put it, since it produced the 24 TV series.

Since Keifer Sutherland recently mentioned back in March that the new movie will becoming out in 2012, I’m guessing they better get a move on and start production!

Sutherland is very committed to getting a movie off the ground though there’s been no serious commitments yet from 20th Century Fox, though, it’s been said they are working with Tony Scott on development of the project.

The idea of Grazer being on the production team is pretty exciting.  Brian Grazer’s production portfolio is nothing to shake a stick at!  His projects range across the board but include such titles as The Dilemma, Robin Hood, Angels & Demons, American Gangster and such.

Project Arbiter Concept Art by Robert Simons

Michael Chance’s Project Arbiter Could Use Your Help!  Read on and find out how YOU can help out an awesome looking project.

In case you haven’t read about the Project Arbiter indie movie here on Brusimm.com, it’s an indie film that appeases both the science fiction fan and the historical war buff and it’s almost finished with the exception of a few post-production details.  But I digress, let me tell you a bit about it:

Michael Chance - PROJECT ARBITER creator

Michael Chance

Bringing the two genres of sci fi and war history together is what Michael Chance is doing in a sci fi espionage story that takes place in 1943.  In Project Arbiter we follow an O.S.S. unit codenamed Project Arbiter.  The team infiltrates a mysterious villa on the Polish border and they uncover a secret project.  A project that could change their own prototype battle-suit program.

24: Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub)

24: Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub)

24” is coming to a close with its season finale, also being the series finale for the show.  It’s been 8 good years of a ride of high intensity espionage and spy butt-kicking.  All the while riddled with insider deceipt to make sure you never know who to suspect.

All I know is that Jack (Keifer Sutherland) has been through a heck of a lot for his country and Chloe Sullivan (Mary Lynn Rajskub) is finally in charge!

The final 2 hours of “24″ started with a great introduction by Keifer thanking us for being fans.

I’ve enjoyed this 8th season of “24.”  It’s had a different kind of pace for Jack.  He’s had what feels like to me, a more proactive perspective than usual. And then his girl, Renee Walker (Annie Wersching) was killed.  That, was the final straw.

Fox's 2010 season of 24 with Keifer Sutherland

We’ve all conjectured through this excellent final season of “24” just how the show and Jack’s day will end.  We know a movie is coming at us, so I would guess, guess I say, that Jack doesn’t die on this final day.

(PLOT SPOILERS) But according to Howard Gordon, who is the executive producer of “24,” he says that Jack Bauer will not have a happy ending at the end of the day.

The exact specifics of how Jack ends the day have been kept off the table, but it has been referred to has Jack’s unhappy fate.  From what I can tell, death isn’t in the cards, but what do I know.

How’d everyone handle this week’s episode of 24?  Was it a total shock when Renee got shot?  I was, and yet I wasn’t.  It sucks that yet one more crap thing happened to Jack in his life…  and I guess, it’s going to suck for the bad guys.  They. Are. All. Done.

Upfronts are in May and networks have to look long and hard… and sometimes not so hard at what TV series they’re going to be cutting from next season so they know what they’re selling the advertisers.  (What’s an Upfront?)

The shows some of us care about like Smallville & Fringe have been given life for another season while 24 and Ugly Betty are being set afloat.  More than likely, FlashForward didn’t see this in their visions, but despite all the changes made during that dumb ass 4-month hiatus, it would seem that the numbers aren’t coming up to snuff and they may be FlashLeaving.

They say “V” is probably staying, though I’m surprised at that.  The episode I saw at WonderCon 2010 was fairly cookie-cutter content and thus, for myself, predictable.

KATEE SACKHOFF - 24 - P7242663

We’ve followed Katee Sackhoff since her stint as Lt. Kara Thrace on Battlestar Galactica.  But if you’ve ever seen Fifteen and Pregnant or The Education of Max Bickford, Halloween: Resurrection or White Noise 2: The Light then you’ve caught her earlier work.

After playing Starbuck on BSG, her role in Bionic Woman wasn’t that different and my mind was fixated on that.  Yet her portrayal as Dana Walsh in 24 is brilliant.  It’s refreshing to see something new and different from Katee.
