Cinema Static, TV and Movie News and OpinionToday’s Cinema Static bite involves some Hawaii Five-0 observations and a TV news bite (no pun intended) for True Blood….

Hat Tip to Hawaii Five-0 Showrunners

In the Hawaii Five-0 episode titled “Lapa’au,” the team (Alex O’Loughlin, Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim, Grace Park, & Masi Oka) try to discover who killed an ICE agent and track down the smuggling ring she was pursuing.

The episode, which aired a few weeks ago, guest starred Greg Grunberg.

For any fans of the past show, Heroes, you know that Masi Oka, who plays Dr. Max Bergman, and Greg Grunberg, who played agent Morrison in this episode, were main characters on Heroes.

In a scene in the H50 episode, when the two characters meet in Dr. Bergman’s lab, Bergman looks at Morrison and stops, saying, “Have we met before?”

LOL…  they spent a few moments on the scene and I thought it was an awesome and funny moment when the two ex-cast from Heroes cross paths and the showrunners took advantage of the moment.

That was a Cinema Static Awesome TV moment.

BTW:  Grunberg is slated to show up in a Syfy movie in 2012, titled Mega Spider!  At least that’s the title right now.

The H50 scene above reminded me of another scene gem from a True Blood scene from early last season, when the vampires were holding a public meeting to sooth over the general populace about their intents… and there was this huge advertising banner at the vampire conference, 1-800-DENTIST.  Ya had to laugh at that one.

Speaking of True Blood….

Brusimm Cinema Static TV NewsHey gang, Chris Bauer, who plays Andy Bellefleur on True Blood, will be guest starring in a role on Hawaii Five-0.

Bauer will be playing the role of an off-shore oil rig manager on Hawaii Five-0.  It seems that he will be under the microscope of the Five-0 team of Steve McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) and Danny (Scott Caan) when one of his employees turns up murdered!

It’s probably going to be weird for Chris Bauer to have a role where a murdered character doesn’t explode in blood, rise from the dead or drift off into ghost land!

And it might be nice to see him in a presumably different role than we’ve been watching him in, on True Blood.  I remember him from the days of Third Watch, when he played cop-husband Fred Yokas.  Anyone ever catch that show?

Very sweet news!  It will be great to see him in something new.

Grace Park in 'Hawaii Five-0' season 2

Ah, finally, Hawaii Five-0, starring Alex O’Loughlin has returned for it’s second season and the season premiere of Hawaii Five-0 had much along the entertainment value.  But it also had moments of EP.  That’s extreme predictability.  But I’m not sure that the EP was avoidable in the Hawaii Five-0 episode titled “Ha’i'ole.”

The season premiere of Hawaii Five-0, pulled in just under 12 million viewers.  It didn’t beat it’s competitor on ABC, Castle, but it beat everything else.  Being beat by Nathan Fillion in Castle is acceptable to this website!

Moderate to Serious H50 Spoilers Ahead

Alex O'Loughlin in 'Hawaii Five-0'

As we all know/recall, the Governor is dead.  Duplicitous in multiple layers of criminal behavior, the ilk of the criminal way caught up to her.  But then Steve McGarrett was implicated in her murder.

I thought it was going to be a far stretch of connected story lines to get McGarrett out of this predicament, but through a few leaps of story-line faith, it actually happened!

Finally, I caught some new TV news bits on CBS’s Hawaii Five-0, starring Alex O’Loughlin.  Come on in and stay a few minutes!  Check out the first-look season two photos peppered throughout the article, and later on, the preview and recap clips I’ve gathered and well, stop by and say hi!

First up, that crossover:

This season two shows are going to have a crossover event that will apparently be important more to NCIS fans than H50 fans because what takes place in the Hawaii Five-o episode will apparently be referenced later in NCIS: Los Angeles.

> Hawaii Five-0 premieres on Sept. 19th. See all new premiere dates!<

It’s important due to a secret character appearance that hasn’t been let out of the bag yet.

The event will involve NCIS: LA‘s Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah) heading to the island state to work with the Hawaii Five-0 team.

McGarrett (O'Loughlin) Seems in big trouble after the 1st season finale!

Exec Producer Shane Brennan was asked if there were future crossovers with other series in mind and his reply indicated that this one just popped up, but that future crossovers are not out of the question.

Vague but hopeful.  (Have you ever noticed how vaguely hopeful these answers are from showrunners?  Ack… being hopeful is hard work!)

Next up, bits on some of the new cast:

Hawaii Five-0 Contest

Bruce here…  Here’s a quick note about a contest that you can enter that’s associated with Hawaii Five-0:

Alex O'Loughlin in Hawaii Five-0

CBS has a web page pushing a contest where five contest winners will go to Hawaii as Social Ambassadors.

That that means is CBS sends you to Hawaii for the Hawaii Five-0 premiere party, a set visit, an advanced copy of the first season of the show, $500 spending cash and of course, much more!  Whatever much more means.

Sounds cool and they say you will get to share your experience with your followers and friends.  I presume that means you will be able to go nuts Tweeting and Facebook Google +’ing your time there.

Hawaii Five-0 TV News

William Baldwin has landed a recurring guest role on the Hawaii Five-0 reboot starring Alex O’Loughlin.

In the latest casting news from the Hawaiian based crime drama, Baldwin has landed a role that was a former disgraced homicide detective who has formed a team of dirty cops to pull off an organized crime wave.

Baldwin’s character will also be butting heads with the other guest star, Tom Sizemore, as they were former partners.

William Baldwin is one of “the Baldwins,” and aside from some roles in the movies 1 a Minute, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Noise and such, he also voiced Batman in Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths.

Cinema Static on Brusimm - TV and Movie News & Opinion

In case you had not heard, Lauren German (Happy Town) will be joining the cast of Hawaii Five-0 as a regular character.  That character being a former Homeland Security officer.

Her role is to keep McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) on the straight and narrow, plus, there’s an interesting bit about her being a potential love-interest for McGarrett.

-

Also on slate for the cast of Hawaii Five-0 casting is that Larisa Oleynik is returning in a recurring role.  She played Jenna Kaye, the snarky (at first) ex-CIA agent who helped McGarrett track down Wo Fat.

Remember, Hawaii Five-0 has already added Richard T. Jones, Masi Oka, Terry O’Quin and Tom Sizemore to the cast and that collective of cast makes me think that this is going to be a fun 2nd season for the show!  Hoo ya.

Hawaii Five-0, season 2, premieres on Monday, September 19th, 2011.

If you became a fan of Brian J. Smith while he was on the ill-fated and horribly mutated Stargate Universe, you’ll be happy to know that he will be joining the cast of Gossip Girl, playing the role of a chef named Max.

If you’ve ever enjoyed the characters that Terry O’Quinn brings to television, you are in seriously good luck today.  He’s landed a recurring role in the Alex O’Loughlin starring crime drama, Hawaii Five-0!

I remember O’Quinn, prior to Lost, from the X-Files spin-off, Millenium…  and of course, most recently, in Lost where John Locke kept making unilateral decisions without much warning to the stranded gang.  (Gads, that reminds me that I hated the ending of Lost!)

O’Quinn’s role in H50 will be that of a Navy SEAL who served with McGarrett’s dad and pretty much taught McGarrett all he knows.

He may also have info about Steve’s parents death.

This casting will reunite Terry O’Quinn with Daniel Dae Kim, as they’ve both starred on Lost together.

Now… if one word of a hatch with special numbers comes out of O’Quinn’s mouth in this new role, I’m going to run for cover and hang on for the ride because, this too, is also an island-based setting.  OMG!

We have pulled through the premiere first season of Hawaii Five-0 starring Alex O’Loughlin and Scott Caan.  I don’t know about you, but I think the creative forces behind the show have done a good job with the reboot to not only pay homage to the original (with the opening) but to modernize it beyond what the original actually could be today, in this era.  Plus, as many O’Loughlin fans can attest to, how can you go wrong with Alex O’Loughlin in a series!? Today, I’m actually looking at the last three episodes of the series, as they all build up to the series finale! (If your DVR is backed up and you haven’t seen the last three eps, avert thy vision and return after you’ve seen them!)

In the Hawaii Five-0 episode titled “Ho’ohuli Na’au,” the team investigated the murder of a fashion photographer played by Rick Springfield.  He left behind a pregnant girlfriend played by the beautiful Serinda Swan (Smallville, Tron) and in the process, it turns out his ill-begotten daughter, played by Andrea Bowen (Desperate Housewives) was the culprit!

Alex O'Loughlin and Serinda Swan in Hawaii Five-0

But underneath the main story was the continuing saga of Chin’s (Daniel Dae Kim [Lost]) uncle’s legal problems.  Chin had stepped up and tried to take the blame for some money that questionably, went missing.  He did this to pull the blame off his uncle.  Trying to prove to IA it was him, he returns / produces the money.  In the process, Chin made a bone-head move and borrowed the $200k from a loan shark by giving him the deed to his house.

Chin, what were you thinking!!!???

Alex O'Loughlin on the GQ Style coverJust in case some of you Alex O’Loughlin fans didn’t catch it, he did a photo spread and interview with GQ Style Australia.

In the interview Alex O’Loughlin touches how he loves filming in Hawaii and that he can’t really see himself leaving the state, regardless of what happens to Hawaii Five-0.

There are more images from the magazine layout over at buzznet.com and an interview teaser snippet preview on www.gq.com.au

But of course, what would an photo spread interview be these days without a teaser video of the photo shoot with Alex O’Loughlin?
