SMALLVILLE

It is here.  The moment we’ve all been looking forward to and dreading, all at once.  Through the highs and some of the lows, this is what it comes down to, the series finale of Smallville on The CW.  The episode much heralded by many websites throughout the last few months.

This final episode of Smallville was 90% pretty damn good.  The story took care of many of the open stories and we got to see many past characters/actors.  We didn’t see Pete, (Sam Jones III) because ["In October 2009, he was arrested by the DEA on charges of drug trafficking, with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute.TMZ]  His loss.

'Smallville' - The Superman Symbol in Clark's Eye

The story in this final episode was good enough to keep me from being sad that this was the last ever new episode of Smallville.  The last twenty minutes had many recap images of the previous ten years and it was then I started realizing how sad I was becoming that this was it.  No more upcoming scenes.

FROM HERE ON OUT, SPOILERS are in this Smallville recap and review:

The series finale of Smallville is airing tonight in a 2-hour finale on The CW that promises to be a very exciting television event for the fans.  Despite some lows in story, there have also been some highs and through it all, we’ve stuck by the show.  Having started with the series, watching it for so long, how can you not see it through?

Via Smallville, on The CW we’ve been introduced to the vision of a reimagined Superman originally conceived and brought to us by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.  Over the last 10 years we’ve been introduced to Tom Welling, Allison Mack, Kristen Kreuk, Michael Rosenbaum, Erica Durance, Justin Hartley and many many more.

By ‘introduced’ I mean brought to our attention, not necessarily first time to TV.

Yes, he runs for a phone booth too!

Tom Welling has become a producer and other cast have come to be a part of our awareness as we start to follow them in other ventures.  The most popular of the cast could very well be Michael Rosenbaum.

Through the last ten years, we’ve cried for the series to break the rules of ‘no tights’ but we’ve come to learn they had other legal obligations they had to operate by.  We’ve never seen Batman or Wonder Woman or The Flash, but we’ve seen other characters or representations of these characters in different ways.

"Sacrifice" -- Allison Mack as Chloe Sullivan in SMALLVILLE

Allison Mack as Chloe Sullivan in Smallville

If you were bummed about Chloe leaving so quietly in her last February 25th appearance on Smallville, fret no more.  Rumors have it that Allison Mack will be in the two-hour series finale of Smallville, though how much she’ll be in it, I don’t know.

Keep in mind, she’s one of the originals of the series that has been with the show since day one.

On the side, I don’t see any other upcoming projects for Allison Mack, but obviously, we’ll keep you apprised if we hear of anything.  Or you’ll let us know?

"Sacrifice" -- Allison Mack as Chloe Sullivan in SMALLVILLE

Allison Mack as Chloe Sullivan in Smallville

My friend Jimmy over at Alias 007 Online wrote a bit about our farewell look at Allison Mack from Smallville in the episode titled “Fortune.”  His article is dependent on your already having seen the episode.

With that, here’s the teaser to his article, which is continued at his site:

As Smallville nears the end of it’s tenth and final season only two original cast members remain on the show. One of those characters, Chloe Sullivan played by Allison Mack, chose to exit the show just shy of its end in last Friday night’s episode, “Fortune.” In the following article I’ll break down Chloe’s final episode and bid farewell to both the character and the actress.

Tom Welling in Smallville

We’re in the midst of the last season of Smallville, starring Tom Welling, Erica Durance and more.  This is the tenth season and it’s hitting the fans hard with some great quality stories as the creative team behind The CW series is pulling out all the stops to give the fans the best possible experience as the show heads to the series finale.

Below is one of two promo posters released for the final season of Smallville.  The cooler, new image occurs near the end of the article and the image with the reflective image was released a few weeks ago.  The new images included are courtesy of Superman Supersite:

In the meantime, a few things will be coming our way as the Smallville season winds down.

As you may recall, Clark (Tom Welling) and Lois (Erica Durance) are now engaged.  As to whether we see them get married or not in the series, well, the producers are being a bit reluctant to answer that but they do say something big in their relationship is coming up.  But along those lines, they also touched on the idea that living in the shadow of Superman is tough and Lois has to do something to stand out on her own.  We also know that Clark has to grow as a “husband” or partner.

If you consider outline-like details of character appearances as spoilers, then I am thinking you will consider the following info after the page break as SPOILERS!

Smallville Superman Suit

The 10th season premiere of Smallville opens with Clark falling off the building after banishing Zod, with the blue kryptonite knife sticking out of his chest.  Clark (Tom Welling) hits the ground unconscious and while Lois is crying over him, he wakes up in a green field…  in memory lane and then he finds himself talking to his dad, Jor-El.  He then see’s an outline of what looks like Lex, then he wakes up after Lois (Erica Durance) pulls the knife out of his chest.  When Clark comes to, Lois runs off and hides…  not wanting him to know she knows his secret.  What?  A double-ended set of secrets?

Chloe (Allison Mack) is dealing with the disappearance of Oliver (Justin Hartley) when Clark shows up, but in a spate of illogical writing, Chloe says nothing about Oliver disappearing.  Then later, in the usual, non-communicative mode she’s been in over the last season, she finds herself Dr. Doom’s helmet and dons it.  (I know she’s not going to be on the show full time and I’m glad for it… I’m tired of the secretive mode she’s been in.)

Oliver is being beaten for information by a new bad guy.  Anyone catch his name yet?  I didn’t.

"Smallville" on The CW Network, starring Tom Welling

The exec producers of The CW’s Smallville have let a few details out of the bag recently touching on plot points with the 10th and final season of Smallville.

We already knew that Allison Mack was leaving, but she’ll be back for a few eps to tie up loose ends for her Chloe character. She will disappear when she “gives herself up to save Oliver.” And there will be some logic in the story where Oliver (Justin Hartley) will let her go and not look for her.

The character Greg Arkin, the human insect hybrid will be back. (The character was in the 1st season, 2nd ep.)

In fact, Smallville’s 200th episode will be looking at Clark’s (Tom Welling) history and in that look, we’ll also be getting some James Martsers as Brainiac action! Too cool!

While we’re filling up the 10th season with new and old, and one of those oldies coming back is John Glover, reprising his role of Lionel Luthor. Well, at least we’re getting one Luthor back in the story. He’ll be showing up for a few episodes.

Also in that list of returning cast is John Schneider as Pa Kent.

Laura Vandervoort as Kara in Smallville

And as I’ve noted earlier, Laura Vandervoot will be in the 3rd episode title “Supergirl.”

Smallville on The CW Network, starring Tom Welling

Smallville is entering its tenth and final season. There’s a lot to talk about that has been mentioned lately.  We chat a little about the next big DC comic book that the CW needs to get working on, talk about big changes in Oliver’s life, bits about Allison Mack’s part time status, the evil bad guy, Darkseid, for season 10, hopes about Michael Rosenbaum returning to Smallville and when and or if THE SUIT will be showing up in this last season.

The CW Needs A New DC Character Series

-

It’s no secret that Smallville has been a great boon for The CW Entertainment network, even despite being moved to Friday’s to make room for The Vampire Diaries on Thursdays.

With this upcoming 10th season of Smallville being its last, they’re pondering what new DC comic book character they can base a new TV series off of.
