The TIck review

So I have historically been a fan of The Tick franchise since the comics and even beyond the pages of the comics and into the cartoon. And The Tick is a wonderfully funny, quirky, nigh-invulnerable kind of silly super hero. He’s not the brightest bulb in a box of bowling balls. In fact, he’s probably a bit insane, but we’ve never quite covered that aspect of the big, blue guy.

Then about a year ago Amazon held a bit of a contest on what new show to produce and among a few options that experimentally aired, The Tick got the most attention and they decided to go with it.

I was anticipating the premiere of The Tick ever since. And then I watched the Amazon Prime offered series.

The teaser text reads,

“In a world where superheroes have been real for decades, an accountant with mental health issues and zero powers comes to suspect his city is owned by a global super villain long-thought dead. As he struggles to uncover the conspiracy, he falls in league with a strange blue superhero. They launch into an adventure brimming with crazed archvillains, blood-soaked vigilantes, and superhuman freakery.”

To be honest, it’s hard to translate the humor on the pages and how readers interpret that humor in their heads while reading it, and project it successfully onto the screen. But they managed.
