The nominations seemed a little light on the original song & makeup below. The number of nods are not surprising for a few of these films, but I would have thought that if a movie had nominations for writing, or best picture, or directing, that those same nods would have potentially garnered some actors getting their own nods off that work. But that’s just me wondering out-loud about the celebrated processes at work behind the scenes of Hollywood.

This is a movie review of Moneyball, starring Brad Pitt. It’s directed by Bennett Miller (Capote) off a screenplay by Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network) and Steven Zaillian (American Gangster).
the story of Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane’s successful attempt to put together a baseball club on a budget by employing computer-generated analysis to draft and deploy his players.

Brad Pitt plays Billy Beane… Jonah Hill (Get Him to the Greek) plays Beane’s right-hand man, the statistician behind his plan, Peter Brand. Other cast includes Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Ides of March, Mission: Impossible III) as Art Howe, Robin Wright (The Conspirator) & Chris Pratt (What’s Your Number?, Take Me Home Tonight).
Coming into this weekend I wondered out-loud, thinking Mondayball might outdistance The Lion King at the Box Offce, and hoped that Dolphin Tale would do well. I was wrong and happy, all at once! Check out the estimated top-10 movies at the box office this weekend:
According to the latest of box office estimates, the battle for the top spot was looking to go to the 2D/3D movie re-release of Disney’s The Lion King, as industry experts are surmising it will be pulling in over $22 million this weekend. [Updated 9/26: Actuals are $21.9M]
Behind the digital furry box office leader is Brad Pitt in the baseball movie, Moneyball. Estimates there seem to point to this movie having a $20 million weekend. [Updated 9/26: Actuals are $19.5M]
But surprisingly, Dolphin Tale is also being estimated to having a $20 million weekend. With Moneyball barely edging out Dolphin Tale. In estimates. [Updated 9/26: Actuals are $19.1M]
And through it all, the 3D animated The Lion King holds water many many years after its initial release. If these estimates hold water, this will be the first ever weekend in September that three movies have a $20 million weekend. [Updated 9/26: Not!]

Behind this all is the under-rated action movie Killer Elite, at just under $10 million. [Updated 9/26: Actuals are $93M] It’s a shame it’s being beat by the fragmented Abduction movie, [Updated 9/26: Actuals are $10.9M] but that’s cool. I think that Killer Elite will slowly overtake the Taylor Lautner movie as word of mouth passes around. Jason Statham fans will have a new film to buy on Blu-ray and DVD.
New movies coming out this Friday, Sept 23rd, to your local movie theater include Brad Pitt as baseball manager; Jason Statham doing action as only he can, as an elite special forces kind of character. There’s also a new Chris Evans movie in the collection of new movies coming out.
A once look-over, there are some fun popcorn movie options… but I think Taylor Lautner‘s film will probably reign supreme over the new films only because of his fan base from the Twilight movies. (They are a force to be reckoned with.) As to whether they can topple Disney’s The Lion King from it’s new, re-released throne is something to ponder though.
Check out this Friday’s upcoming movies and their movie trailers:
-

• Killer Elite
From Open Road Films, Killer Elite follows a retired Elite Special Air Service man whose mentor is kidnapped. To save his mentor, he must go in and kill three assassins.
It’s directed by first-time major film director Gary McKendry and stars Jason Statham, Clive Owen, Robert De Niro, Dominic Purcell, Aden Young and Yvonne Strahovski (from NBC’s Chuck).
In this week’s opening movies, we get some Robert Downey Jr., Zach Galifianakis, Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, James Franco & Thandi Newton in movies opening this Friday at the box office!
Opening Movies Friday, 11-5-10

In Due Date, Robert Downey Jr. plays Peter Highman, a high strung actor who has to skedaddle across country to get to his child’s birth on time. The hitch? Well, is that he’s hitching a ride across country with an aspiring actor.
Directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover), and judging by the previews, it looks awesomely funny and being Downey Jr., I expect it to be pretty funny.

In Megamind, Metro Man (voiced by Brad Pitt) retires and his ex-nemesis, Megamind, (voiced by Will Ferrell) finds his life dull with no good guy to fight! He creates a new bad guy who puts his sites on destroying the world and Megamind has to save the day.
For some we work at ice cream trucks, concession stands at Friday night football games, the local Honda dealership and other great avenues of income to get by in the world while going to school.
Eli Roth, who is setting himself apart with his film creations and roles, has apparently set himself apart again.
Apparently he paid his way through film school by being an online sex worker.
Yep, not a typo gang!
He worked for Penthouse to tease men under the guise of Tami. That’s how Eli Roth paid for his student films.
He said that back in 1991, the only customers then were doctors and scientists because that’s who was on the internet those days. And Penthouse hired guys because guys knew what guys wanted. (Man, are any of you out there reflecting back and grimacing right about now?)
I absolutely love Mr. & Mrs. Smith starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
The first part of the movie is couples counseling between two people who just don’t talk any more. I mean face it, leading a double life, there are bound to be gaps of conversational material.
I love the portrayal of the classic gender myths.
Angelina Jolie’s methodology to a “hit” is to set up ahead of time, be prepared and settle in and wait. Preparation is key to the hit with alternate plans in place just in case.
Brad Pitt’s approach is the guys approach. Take a really big gun and a bunch of other guns and show up just in time befor the target gets there.
Angelina’s gun supply is a finite number of weapons. Brad’s is an entire vault underneath the garage.
Angelina is precise in her attack. Brad’s is spraying bullets or the biggest shell in the direction of the target.
Going Green Is an admirable feat. If you can pull it off and leave as small of a carbon footprint as possible by “going green,” more power to you. I truly admire the dedication. I can’t begin to imagine what percentage of my life is green.
Regardless, if you’re a green focused consumer and you get the Sundance Channel AND you’re a Brad Pitt fan… you’re about to win.
Then again, I don’t think you need to be a Pitt fan to enjoy this upcoming program on the Sundance Channel.
The Sundance Channel has declared Tueday nights to be dedicated to the place we call home, planet Earth.
As part of THE GREEN, Sundance will be airing a 6-part series called e2 design that premieres on November 10th.
If interested, the press release from the Sundance Channel ensues, after the break!
