brian france

I didn’t realize that the ‘beloved’ chairman of NASCAR, Brian France, is getting a divorce!  Not until an article came out saying that an appeals court ruled that the events of the legal dispute will take place in open court.

I guess someone wanted to keep it as hush-hush as possible.  The North Carolina appeals court gave more credence to the public’s right to open court proceedings than to the premise of keeping some details quiet.

Before this decision was made, some papers that were filed can still remain in secret unless the judge sitting on the case needs to do something else with them.  Those papers would be the contract regarding property settlement, child support and custody and alimony.

Finances was one of the huge items Mr. France wanted to keep out of the limelight.

We’ll see how it goes.  Divorces are no fun.  Parties “turn.”  It’s like a full moon rises over the event and one of the spouses spouts teeth & hair, acts totally unlike herself and then some weird, unsubstantiated stuff starts to float out about you!  I’m just saying.  Funny things happen when the emotions are smite.

Next year NASCAR is headed to using E15 fuel in the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series.  E15 fuel is a corn based fuel and it has reportedly generated more horsepower for teams that have tested it.

In the same article there was chat on what they can do to improve TV ratings of the sport.  Of note, NASCAR Chairman Brian France said that the racing is great and that over time, that will take care of itself.  When questioned on other factors like changes to the Chase, he declined to answer that.

Bruton Smith chimed in on fixing TV ratings and said he doesn’t believe that ratings are down 25%, but then added that he doesn’t feel that running at 1 p.m. is doing the sport any favors.  With that, he meant being up against the biggest ratings catcher on weekend TV, football.  Football is the dominant TV sport.  He thinks starting at 2 p.m. might be the answer as people get tired of watching football after an hour of the sport is on TV.

August 6, 2010

We have been hearing about a track losing a date for some time now.  But most of the conjecture was looking at New Hampshire, not Atlanta Motor Speedway for losing that date. But the question remains for me if only having one date will save the track from future changes? In my mind, the only [...]
