The 42nd Comic-Con International has come and gone.  Everyone had bunches of fun and I’m still scrambling to collect all my notes from all the days and put out the news I absorbed while there!  Next year’s dates for Comic Con are already set!  Next year, Comic Con 2012 event in San Diego will take place from July 12 to 15th!  Mark the calendars… though prereg sales already seemed to have sold out at the convention.  Zoinks!

But for those who didn’t or couldn’t make it, there’s always the August conventions!

For one, there’s Wizard Worlds Chicago Comic Con taking place Aug 11-14th!  Bruce Campbell, Sir Patrick Stewart, Felicia Day, Smashing Pumpkins and more are slated to appear.  There will also be Morena Baccarin, James Marsters, the hot Charisma Carpenter and of course, so many more! AMC TV LogoOf all the cable channels out there, I’ve always felt that AMC was top of the crop of free cable channels.  And October is the perfect month to pull out the stops and hit the viewers with some of the classic horror movies on the tube!  If you’re old enough, you’d remember the days that AMC was commercial free!  Alas, everything changes.

AMC is pulling out the stops and hitting you with Alien and Aliens, some Bruce Campbell, all the Friday the 13th‘s, A collection of Halloween’s and the standard collection of monsters.

Some of my favorites are airing in this Hallowed month:  Alien, Aliens, Pitch Black with Vin Diesel, Thirteen Ghosts and Tremors.  Who doesn’t love Tremors?

Check out the schedule from AMC for October 2010 after the break.  The list is first sorted by date, and then by movie name.

Opening Movies from Cinema Static Logo

This week is a quiet week indeed.  The only opening movies this week are Resident Evil: Afterlife & The Romantics.

Unless of course, you live in Chicago where they’re having the Chicago Flashback Weekend Horror Convention! If you’re one of the lucky ones then you’ll be getting the chance to see some fun Bruce Campbell movies on Saturday: The Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, Evil Dead 2 & My Name is Bruce!  Have fun gang!

Weekend Box Office

Box Office Numbers from Cinema StaticDespite reviews declaring The American a slow build of a film, George Clooney pulled in the viewers with a $13M weekend.  Machete with Danny Trejo brought in $11.3M and Going the Distance nabbed itself $6.9M.

Takers, starring Hayden Christensen, Matt Dillon, Chris Brown, Zoe Saldana & Idris Elba showed some staying power with the public and squeaked into the weekend’s 2nd spot with an $11.4M weekend.

If you do the math of how many theaters each movie was in, Takers averaged just under $5200 per theater & The American just under $4600 per theater.

Title Weekend Gross
The American $13M $16.1M
Takers $11.4M $37.9M
Machete $11.3M $11.3M
The Last Exorcism $7.55M $32.3M

2010 Comic-Con News from Cinema Static

The 2010 Comic-Con event in San Diego is a pretty fun event to attend.  For some, it’s a one-day event and for others, it’s the entire weekend.  For the TV and movie fan, it can be a blast to attend one of the many panels and see your favorite stars in-person!  This year, as in other years, TV shows have their events in Ballroom 20.  It’s not quite as big as Hall H, where they hold the movie panels and big-gun talks, bit it’s still a sizable room.

In this room, shows will pack the floor.  Shows scheduled to be represented vary across the spectrum.  Those TV series and their stars expected to be presented are Burn Notice, White Collar, Psych, Dexter, Stargate Universe, Caprica, Bones, True Blood, Chuck, Fringe, The Vampire Diaries, Smallville, Supernatural, Glee and the Buffy Musical show.  Not to mention The Joss Whedon Experience!

So check it out below!

BURN NOTICE renewed

BURN NOTICE

Breaking news just came out today that USA’s Burn Notice has been renewed.  But not just for one season, Burn Notice has been renewed for two seasons.  That’s not including the upcoming 4th season that’s about to start airing again on June 3rd on USA Network!

Imagine the following bit being spoken by Michael Westen:

“When you have a great show, it’s important to set up the theme so people understand where you’re headed with the story and let them know what you’re about.”
