buffy the vampire slayer

Cinema Static, TV News, Movie News and OpinionHey gang, the things that caught my eye recently was a piece about Joss Whedon addressing the 3d post-conversion of The Avengers, that there will more than likely not be  a Buffy remake and Lady Gaga showing more appreciation to her fans.

Joss Whedon on The Avengers Post-Conversion to 3D

THE AVENGERS movie clip cap

While we know that Disney is Jonesing to release (and will) Joss Whedon’s movie, The Avengers, in 2D and 3D, which isn’t a surprise, being as how the entire industry is continually trying to shove 3D down the consumers throat.  Now I just wish more consumers would speak with their wallets about the issue!

But the website, JoBlo, had caught up with Joss Whedon to chat with him about the 3D release and we learned this from the site:

Whedon knew about the conversion to 3D.  CONVERSION?  Yep, The Avengers is being post-converted to 3D.

This conversion was on his mind during the entire time while filming The Avengers but he also tried to sooth fan’s nerves by saying that the movie won’t go overboard with the 3D process, meaning that we won’t find ourselves travelling through a tunnel for 20 minutes in any scene just because it’s in 3D.

The Avengers opens in movie theaters on May 4th, 2012.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Remake

-

It was previously written that Warner Bros is going forward with a remake of the 1992 Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie.  Joss Whedon was the screenplay writer for the movie and later, the writer & executive producer of the TV series by the same name.  Joss Whedon then parlayed the success of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series into a spinoff series titled Angel.

During the Buffy series alone, Whedon introduced us to many actors who will, through time, become beloved actors with not only the Whedonverse, but all the world!

Dollhouse, Buffy, Angel & The Guild Comic News!

-

Dollhouse Epitaths from Dark Horse

We know that during the series run of Dollhouse, Joss Whedon was a wee bit downtrodden about the idea of doing a comic version of the show.  He went from saying “no,” to “maybe,” to there are no plans to do this.  I’m happy to report that now we have definitive news that Dark Horse Comics will be carrying on the torch of the Eliza Dushku starrer in comic book form!  Shiny!  Can I say shiny about a Dollhouse title?  Hope so, I just did!  (But then again… if you read this column, you already knew about the Dark Horse Epitath titles…  right!?  If you were around reading this fledgling website site back in July 0f ’10 that is.)

The Dark Horse Comics Dollhouse title will be written by Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen and will pick up the battle of our heroes after the point in time where the TV series ended, during the era that we were teased about in the episodes “Epitaph One” and “Epitaph Two.”  Whedon and Tancharoen both wrote for the TV series, so they both bring brains full of knowledge and ideas from the franchise.  Hence, I’m not worried about the title flopping in the eyes of the fans.

Cliff Richards will be the artist and we can expect the title to be released in the mainstream sometime in 2011.  (There was already a special preview version sold during the San Diego Comic-Con event.

Joss Whedon

I know it’s a long way off right now and things can happen, but right now the unofficial convention of all that is Joss Whedon, called Whedon Fest, has Amy Acker (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Dollhouse) and Nicholas Brendon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Criminal Minds) are scheduled to appear!

The event celebrates everything from the Whedon Verse, or as they call it, the Whedon Fest.  It will be taking place October 1 – 3, 2010 at the Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel & Conference Centre.  Yep, sorry gang, but Canada has this cool event!

You can check out other details about Whedon Fest on Starry Night Events website.

Joss Whedon Directing THE AVENGERS Superhero Movie

After Joss Whedon was announced as being in the final stages of contract negotiations to direct Marvel Entertainment’s superhero movie, The Avengers, websites started to have a field day.  Folks that understand Joss Whedon’s abilities were happy and supportive.  Other folk who may have never actually become immersed in anything from Joss Whedon (Meaning never really watched or read) questioned the call for Whedon to direct The Avengers.

Some are fixated on the idea that Whedon could ruin what has already been put forth before him, despite there only having been a few Marvel character movies released to date, that had any kind of quality behind them.  We’re banking that some upcoming projects will do as well as Wolverine, Spider-Man or Iron Man has done in their U.S. Box Office performance.  But we haven’t seen Thor yet.  Captain America has barely begun casting, yet we seem to already think they’re going to be good movies that will go awry when all the characters are pulled together under The Avengers movie project.  That seems pretty presumptuous.

Joss Whedon has brought us some pretty cool stuff that covers space cowboys in Firefly, to an entire fantasy television series covering the demonic side of things with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and such.  He’s even messed with people’s minds in Dollhouse.

Eric Kripke on the other hand, from my exposure to his work, has dealt out some awesome work along the same demonic lines of thought with his co-producing the 2005 movie Boogeyman and his executive produced television hit series Supernatural.

I mean sure, the Winchester brothers from Supernatural are “hunters” or slayers of a sort.  It would be fun to see them meet Buffy for an episode and just have a real party down with a town full of vamps or demons.

But that’s old.
