"Smallville" on The CW Network, starring Tom Welling

It was what it was! Only a few episodes of Smallville on The CW are left and we had to deal with Zod and a powerless Clark Kent!  Having thought we’ve seen the last of Zod, it was surprising and worrisome all at once. With Clark and Oliver headed willingly into the phantom zone, it was daring, even for our yellow sun powered hero.

Yet in they went. This time around, I enjoyed Callum Blue‘s portrayal of Smallville‘s Zod. It seemed different and to me, a more enjoyable version. He had a different edge to himself this time around. Less sneering, more glaring looks or something like that.

The altercation that erupted between Clark and Oliver was quite Spartacus-like. The entire gladitorial scenario reminded me of a a toned down Starz Spartacus. The fight choreography wasn’t bad either.

SMALLVILLE

The season finale of Smallville starts in a dream sequence of Clark’s (Tom Welling), taking place in 2013 and I was really worried.    Then back in the real world of Smallville, Zod (Callum Blue) tricks Lois (Erica Durance) into spying on Clark and Clark lets Chloe (Allison Mack) know that the “Book of Rao” is not a book but a key that opens a gate to another dimension.  It will suck all Kryptonians away.    (Yes, this season finale review of “Salvation” contains spoilers.)

Tess (Cassidy Freemen) tries to kill Zod up in the Fortress of Solitude… and fails miserably as Zod fries her with his favorite toy, his heat vision.  Clark finds her and takes her to a hospital.

EW got themselves an image from the season finale of Smallville.

In the image, we can see Clark (Tom Welling) facing off with Zod (Callum Blue), but Zod has himself a blue kryptonite blade!  Egads.

"Sacrifice" -- Allison Mack as Chloe Sullivan in SMALLVILLE

The irascible Tess (Cassidy Freeman) breaks into Watchtower, triggering the intricate security system that Chloe (Allison Mack) installed, which ends up trapping both ladies inside the tower.  Also, Chloe discovers that The Kandorians are downloading information from the Watchtower server.  And along the edges of this episode, Oliver (Justin Hartley) confronts Zod (Callum Blue).  And Clark (Tom Welling) discovers that Zod has given his soldiers super powers.

Check out who co-wrote this episode:  Kevin Fair directed the episode with story by Justin Hartley & Walter Wong and teleplay by Bryan Q Miller.

Smallville on the CW

This Friday’s (4/16/10) episode of Smallville is titled “Upgrade” and we’ll be seeing more of Brain Austin Green this week as he takes on the mantle of Metallo once again!  Check out the press release for the upcoming episode and some pictures after that!

BRIAN AUSTIN GREEN RETURNS AS METALLO AND CLARK IS INFECTED WITH RED KRYPTONITE — Zod (Callum Blue) continues to pose as “The Blur” and asks Lois (Erica Durance) to investigate one of Tess’ (Cassidy Freeman) secret labs.  An explosion rocks the lab, and Lois is rescued by John Corben (guest star Brian Austin Green) who was a subject of multiple experiments.  While investigating the explosion, Clark (Tom Welling) is exposed to red kryptonite.  And infected Clark takes Zod to the Fortress.  Tess turns to Chloe (Allison Mack) for help and they send in Corben to stop Clark from revealing all his secrets.  Mike Rohl directed the episode written by Andrew Landis & Julia Swift (#3X5268).

Some of the pictures from Smallville’s “Upgrade” MIGHT be a bit spoilery…  thought you should know!

When Smallville’s episode titled “Checkmate” opened, I found the stop / slow motion panels to be interesting. I think they were well used up front in the teaser and thankfully, we weren’t treated to them throughout the episode.  We were dealt more stop-motion / comic panels later on near the end of “Checkmate” and again, I think well used, and not over-used.

As ar as the story goes, Tess Mercer (Cassidy Freemen) plays bait to lure the Green Arrow into Checkmate’s clutches, because for some reason, Checkmate finds it necessary to drug and abduct new recruits more compelling than actually asking them.

Sanctuary capped off their 2nd season with a humdinger of a 2-hour season-finale episode that involved a tiny spider, a huge spider, mystics in training, Major Zod… I mean Callum Blue and a seriously hot looking mystic interpretation of Big Bertha named Kali, played by the very beautiful Sahar Biniaz.

There’s trouble in paradise, or at least there’s trouble wherever Callum Blue seems to show up lately.

After a full day of a Sanctuary marathon on Syfy, we were reminded of everything that happened in season 2 and it led right up to the season 2 finale of Sanctuary called Kali.

If you haven’t seen the episode yet, there are SPOILERS in the following terse take on the episode.

First off, we get to see Emilie Ullerup on Smallville, playing Cat Grant in Friday’s episode.  This will be her first TV appearance since her demise on Syfy’s Sanctuary.

2nd, we’ve got big things coming our way Friday…  with the much anticipated …  well wait,

3rd, I’ve got a first look pic at Julian Sands portraying Jor-El later this season.  I’d usually stick a 2nd pic in after the break, but for those who are avoiding any kind of spoilers, I thought I’d stuff it in here:

Before I go any further, I need to say this season has been going like gang busters with all kinds of characters gracing the “pages” of Smallville.  If I didn’t know any better, I’d say they were parading as many DC characters as possible across the screen before the end of the series.  That’s what I would do if I thought the end was near.  But keep in mind, episodes are written and filmed long before ratings are recognized… and you can’t blame them for taking this approach… if that was what they were doing.

But is it really the last season Smallville?  Hang on.  More on that later.

After the break, there may be what’s considered light Smallville spoilers so if you don’t like having the surprise taken from your experience, or you’re a time-shifted viewer (DVR junkie!) then you may want to hold off on the rest of this article after the break.

You’ve been warned!

Below are a few Smallville preview video clips for the upcoming episode titled ‘Crossfire’.

It seems Major Zod (Callum Blue) is more daring or venturous than I had anticipated.  And the 2nd video would suggest that Clark (Tom Welling) is kissing Lois (Erica Durance)!  Or going to try.

The Lois kiss clip is after the break.
