Wolverine Sequel

Wolverine 2 movie The Wolverine

The sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine found itself a title in the news… or something like that and will be called The Wolverine.  It is going to be more of a one-off sequel that explores the character without strong tie-ins to the original set of franchise movies.

Shooting is slated to begin early 2011 and Hugh Jackman (Australia, The Prestige; upcoming: Real Steel) returns to the title role and Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, The Wrestler; upcoming: The Fighter) is directing.  It is written by Christopher McQuarrie (Valkyrie, The Usual Suspects; upcoming: The Tourist).

Tell me that isn’t an impressive collective of artistry!

The sequel will be based loosely on the Frank Miller and Chris Claremont Wolverine comics mini-series from the 80′s that takes place in Japan and will include Silver Samurai.  At least according to sources that later were shut down by Fox Legal.  (For some reason, rather than doing a web search for “principal character list from wolverine 2″ and finding all sites reporting the news, they only looked at some of the main player sites and them pull the info.)  Eh.

It should be fun to see this on-off.  Logan is nothing but a rich source for one-off’s with all the titles and such from the comic franchise.

Top Gun F-14 Tomcat

Top Gun is a movie that scarred my mind forever… but that’s not a bad thing.  I have the soundtrack in my head and it’s never left!  As a popcorn flick, it stood the serious test of time as something that stuck in my memory.  Plus it seems the movie has been the central focus point for any military based TV series and seems to be the stock footage supply for many a show!

Now David Ellison is looking to drop a bucket-load of money into a sequel for Top Gun.  He’s already been noted to having made offers to Jerry Bruckheimer (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time) and director Tony Scott (The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3).  He also wants Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie) to do the update on the script.  (Update?)

Tom Criuse from Top Gun

Despite this news about a sequel being pretty fresh, the rumor is that Tom Cruise will be making an appearance as Maverick.  Speaking of Tom, David Ellison has already set up a film deal with Paramount pictures and is bringing Mission Impossible 4 (MI4) to the screen.
