Brusimm Cinema Static TV News-Andy Rooney passed away Friday, a mere one month after signing off with his last telecast on the 60 Minutes news broadcast.  Andy Rooney was 92 and died from complications from what’s called a minor surgery.

He was a cornerstone of wry wit, reflecting on trends and fads with that usual, “Why do we really need it” kind of perspective.  His observations left no stone unturned as he pondered being a pack-rat, hoarding celebrity autographs and the latest social trends on the internet.

He was always on the leading edge of what ever was happening and he was mostly always right for the thirty-three years that he spouted his observations WHY? on the air.

So the after-Friday reports are coming out and without baseball going on, other shows benefited from that.  Or at least that’s how it’s being spun in some circles.

For Grimm fans (Check out my Grimm season premiere TV review), it’s numbers dropped, but still beat out the other genre show, Fringe.  (5.9 vs 3.3 million estimated viewers.)

NBC Universal logoNBC beat the other networks to the punch with their new 2011/2012 TV season lineup schedule announcement, TV Line has revealed.

They’ve (TV Line) also spent some quality time chatting about a few issues that folks might have had questions about, most notably, Chuck, Wonder Woman being dropped, and changes that might be taking place on Law & Order: SVU in the upcoming 2011/2012 TV season.

The notable changes:

Chuck

Chuck is moving to Fridays for its fifth season.  And this is slated to be their final season, with 13 ordered episodes.  But because they are headed into the fifth season, knowing it’s their last, they can approach the story line properly and leave the fans with closure.  (I’m thinking they’ve learned from the lumps and bruises they’ve taken when they cancelled shows like Vegas in mid-cliff-hanger and most recently, Stargate Universe on Syfy channel.)

There won’t be any more episodes ordered, unless, as NBC president Greenblatt said, they suddenly find themselves with 10 million viewers on Friday night, then they’d order more.  (Hint, hint… tell everyone you know fans!)

-

30 Rock will show up mid-season, along with Celebrity Apprentice & The Voice.

On NBC NOT picking up Wonder Woman

It was said by NBC President Bob Greenblatt that they needed to have the right take on Wonder Woman, in this genre, and he did not feel that the pilot did that.  Though he admitted that he wasn’t the best audience for the genre, in so making that decision.

A Cinema Static Suggestion on Wonder Woman:

Despite not picking up the series, I think they should set up the pilot as a stand-alone movie and air it… even if they shuttle it over to the Syfy channel.  It could not be any worse than some of the frighteningly poor quality knock-offs they run on Syfy and would probably make a great Saturday Night Original Movie.

NBC’s Chuck News

First the good news and that is that TV Guide is reporting that Chuck, starring Zachary Levi, is being renewed and being brought back for yet another, their fifth, season.

Chuck‘s fifth season will be a thirteen episode order!

NBC’s Wonder Woman News

Right now, Moviehole is reporting that the Wonder Woman project, starring Adrianne Palicki, is not impressing the higher ups in NBC and the term used is that the show is not the “lock” that many hoped it would be.

Me, I’ve not been impressed with the images that have been floating around out there.  In one image, I swear, that’s an angry toilet straining face.  And that’s your promo?

Just sayin’.

Last night’s airing of The Bachelor had a lot to worry about and I’m thinking pulled a lot of viewers in with the controversy of Emily’s NASCAR racing experience group date with Brad.

Though it was built up by the networks and other venues, and a bit confusing to me about her having to address the issue, it was addressed and in the end, she came through this event by tackling the deal head-on.  Good for her.

I explain why I was a bit confused here, Emily Maynard’s NASCAR Date.

What confuses me is that Brad continues to give that nutcase, Michele, a rose.  People say it’s proof that ABC meddles with their reality TV programming, because a lot don’t think Brad is that interested in the girl.  Whatever, it gives us someone decidedly easy to dislike.  (Especially if you’ve been keeping up with some of her news from the past.)

-

Harry’s Law, starring Kathy Bates, pulled in a strong 7.4/12 with the overnight numbers.  The Bachelor, a 7.1 rating/10 share.  The Cape pulled in a 3.3/5 & Chuck, a 3.5/6.

Cinema Static on Brusimm logo

Continuing my new & returning show premier pieces that talk about the shows that are launching or relaunching this week for the mid-season time-frame.  Popular TV series returning from their midseason breaks include Chuck, Family GuyLie To Me and the NCIS shows.  Some of the new shows popping up include The Cape & Lights Out.

I’m as much of a genre fan as the next viewer and I’d love to see a genre show have a reasonable amount of success, but I’m just not feeling a good vibe.  What I mean by good vibe is that I don’t think the Nielsen families that make or break the fate of TV series.

David Lyons in The Cape

The Cape will star David Lyons (ER, Sea Patrol) as Vince Faraday, James Frain (True Blood, Tron: Legacy), Summer Glau (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Dollhouse) & the deep-voiced Keith David (Death at a Funeral, Lottery Ticket).
