That’s because on November 21st, those guys will be at the Barnes and Noble at The Grove signing some of those new Boondock Saints graphic novels.
Hey gang, here’s some movie news updates for Guillermo del Toro‘s Pacific Rim monster movie. The news that came out this week:
First up, taming the rumor mill, it’s being reported the Willem Dafoe IS NOT in Pacific Rim. Apparently there’s a rumor floatin’ around that he’s in the movie.
Per Dafoe in a one-on-one, about being in the movie:
There’s just a tiny update that hit the net on Guillermo Del Toro‘s movie, Pacific Rim.
They’ve been scouting various locations for the movie and story-boarding like nuts, with shooting scheduled for only a few months away, the momentum is building up with the crew. The movie is totally occupying del Toro’s mind and he’s totally focused on this one project right now. Like laser beam focus.
In the update I saw at NY Mag, he also touched on being hands-on with the special effects and how he likes to be there and add his perspective with the special-effects team, hence, so he can realize his vision correctly I’m guessing.

Pacific Rim Casting News
On the heels of the mini-update for the movie, I’ve learned that Clifton Collins Jr. has joined the cast of Pacific Rim.
Boy am I slacking. My in-laws are coming to town and I’ve been put to work cleaning and prepping. But I thought I’d put out a quick list of what new titles have come to the plastic disc of entertainment, in both new DVD and Blu-rays this week, the week of August 2nd, 2011.
The pertinent list of new DVD’s includes
DVD
Rio
Stars the voice power of Jesse Eisenberg, Leslie Mann, Anne Hathaway, it’s directed (& co-written) by Carlos Saldanha (Ice Age)
-
Soul Surfer
This is about a teenage girl who loses an arm to a shark, but chooses to continue surfing. It stars AnnaSophia Robb and Dennis Quaid and is directed (& co-written by) Sean McNamara (Bratz)
The Dark Knight Rises had a mild spoiler slip out over the weekend when Carnegie Mellon college, where they’ll be filming, released a precautionay press bit to the students.
In that press bit, it read thus:
{ Scenes outside the SEI, which will be portrayed as a prison, will include an explosion, a prison break, precision stunt driving, gunfire, atmospheric smoke, and controlled pyrotechnic explosions.
Scenes outside the Fifth Ave. entrance of Mellon Institute include a standoff between two rivals that escalates into a riot. One character drives a motorcycle through the fourth floor lobby, out the front doors and down the steps onto Fifth Ave. Special effects include precision stunt driving, gunfire and atmospheric smoke. }
This sounds like the period of time when Bane went off and released all the villains in the Batman world. But will Nolan’s story head towards when Bane breaks Batman, or is this something different and it turns back around and connects to the previous Dark Knight film? The teaser poster reminds of a certain earthquake that happened where many of the bad guys get released due to quake damage. We’ll see.

The Dark Knight Rises teaser Poster + Something Special
Below is the recently released teaser poster for The Dark Knight Rises, but Nuke the Fridge found something either very very interesting or a coincidentally shaped Superman logo under the tip of the left wing of the poster!
If you have HBO and you’re a fan of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, HBO premiered the movie last Saturday night. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World comes from Edgar Wright (Grindhouse, Hot Fuzz) who directed, wrote and produced this project that stars Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead with appearances by the likes of Brandon Routh, Chris Evans (Captain America), Clifton Collins Jr. (Boondock Saints), & Thomas Jane.
The premise of the story is that Scott Pilgrim (Cera) meets this pretty young lady named Ramona Flowers (Winstead). But for him to be able to continue to date her, he is forced to confront and defeat her 7 evil ex’s. Not ex-boyfriends, ex’s. If you see the movie, you’ll understand.
When I read that Tim Burton and Johnny Depp were partnering up to tackle a remake of the 1960′s goth soap, Dark Shadows, all I said was OMG and I said that for several reasons, all of them good.
Jonathan Frid
Dark Shadows ran from 1966 to 1971. It was created by Dan Curtis (Burnt Offerings) with Jonathan Frid, Joan Bennet & David Selby (The Social Network; on TV: Tell Me You Love Me) amongst the cast.
Despite a few efforts to remake the show and capture the imagination of fans, remake efforts have been a bit flat. For those who take the time to settle in and check out an episode or three of the original, the show seems to still have what it takes for appreciative fans.
But with Seth Grahame-Smith (TV: The Hard Times of RJ Berger) tapped to write the screenplay for the remake, I can’t help but wonder how much pressure comes from looking at an established classic tale of love & hardship amongst the supernatural genre of monsters? Yes, this was the soap that predates The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, True Blood and Twilight!
The Eventseason premiere from NBC confused me as the premiere episode came hurtling at me. The marketing for the new TV series was superb and was in-line with the feel of the episode, and I presume, the series. NBC has been doing its homework. When you want to succeed, you model yourself after someone you respect, who is also successful. While watching The Event, I couldn’t help thinking of Flash Forward and Lost.
There was an underlying event that was taking place in the present and yet we jumped around in time to develop some background for each character and situation. But the time leaps weren’t consistent. 29 minutes, 3 weeks, 3 months or something like that and was nearly confusing. I had to focus. Hard. It hurt! They had 5 time jumps in the first 4 minutes I think! But if you made it past the first half-hour, the 2nd half hour started to piece it all together.
This week, the action starred filled movie The Expendables is opening in theaters and I’m looking forward to it. The other opening movies for Friday include the much anticipated Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Eat Pray Love, Tales from Earthsea & Animal Kingdom. If you live in Las Vegas, Nevada, The Expendables is having it’s opening premiere there!

Opening Movies for this Friday

The Expendables
-
The Expendables has a heck of a cast filled to the brim with action stars. It stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, (A Buffy & Angle alum) Charisma Carpenter & Mickey Rourke. Though it would appear uncredited per IMDb, we’ll also be seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger & Bruce Willis.
The movie was co-written and directed by Sylvester Stallone, and co-written with David Callaham (Doom, Horsemen, Tell Tale), The Expendables is about a group of mercenaries who are sent to South America to help overthrow a dictator, but the job isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be… or more to the point, is a lot more than expected.
The movie would seem to be anticipated by many and I for one am looking forward to seeing Jason Statham doing something else besides being a driver, but aside from looking awesome, I’m sadly seeing reviews that run the gamut, from predictable to fun. We’ll see!
Back in July of 2009, I first met Clifton and I really enjoyed my time with him. If I dare hear anyone saying “Who?,” let me point out a few movies you’ve seen him in.
I am sure you’ve seen Clifton in a movie and just didn’t realize it. He’s been in a myriad of projects from A.J. Abrams’ Star Trek where he played Ayel, Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day as Romeo, and a slew of other films. 44 to be exact, with 2 more coming at us, Freeloaders and The FP.
We’ve also seen him in some TV series over the years: Thief, as Jack “Bump” Hill, and guest spots on The Shield, Fear Itself and Southland. Just from his filmography alone, he seems to be the busy man.
