"Comic Con" News logo

-Comic Con released their schedule for Saturday, July 23rd for their 2011 Comic-Con event in San Diego.

Saturday seems lite on movies and heavy on TV with a few focused panels on some fan-focused personalities like Robert Kirkman, J. Michael Straczynski, Kevin Smith and Joss Whedon.

Movies making appearances in panels include TWIXT, Immortals, Knights of Badassdom & Snow White and the Huntsmen.  TV shows include Chuck, Terra Nova, The Vampire Diaries, Fringe, Alcatraz, Being Human, Sanctuary and more.

Check out first, Ballroom 20‘s schedule, followed by Hall H‘s schedule and after that, a selective list of events from other rooms and locations.  This is NOT a comprehensive listing of everything… so be sure to check out the Comic Con website for more and updated details.

TV & Movie news & Opinion, weeding out the static

The big week of season premieres for the 2010/2011 Fall TV season is pretty much in the books.  The week showed that some shows made their impression on viewers in the first week while other shows didn’t seem to have the best marketing or plot details to appeal to viewers.

I was curious so I started looking at the ratings of the 2010 season premieres.  We have some winners and we definitely have some losers.  Let’s see who might have to worry about having a job next week (season) and who may not.  Of course, the real tell will be the week-to-week ratings, not just a single night.

The best new show in the ratings that I’m covering here on this site, is Hawaii Five-0.  That’s awesome, though I’m worried that it may not stand out from most other police procedurals, regardless of the filming techniques.  (Hawaii Five-0 review).  The Defenders and The Event both did well enough though I am wondering if The Event will hold viewers, considering the complaints across the board about the excessive time jumping.  (The Event Review)

NBC Network

Today NBC released their Fall 2010 / 2011 TV series premiere dates. What we’ve all been more or less waiting for.

If I don’t look at any other network, it looks like I’d turn on NBC on Monday nights and not change the channel… except to quite the pesky TV ads that NBC got $2 billion to air. (Per industry estimations.)

And if for some reason, I didn’t tune into the Syfy Channel to have some good, old-fashioned “B” movie fun, I could tune into NBC on Saturday nights for my Law & Order fix!

Check out the schedule below:

The bands are top notch

The city of Menlo Park is having their annual 2010 Summer Concert Series kicking it in gear again this summer.  The musical genres that we’ll experience at the park include blues, funk, jazz, Cuban/salsa, classic rock, Cajan and tribute bands for U2 & The Beatles.

5k Otter Run in Menlo Park

On Sunday, June 6th I participated in a local 5k running event referred to as the Oak Knoll Otter Run 5k Family Fun Run, in Menlo Park, CA.  It was a multi-stage event where anyone could enter, from whole families looking to have fun to serious runners looking to support the Oak Knoll PTA sponsored school fund raiser.

Friday morning I headed out to the school and signed up, getting my numbered bib and t-shirt for the event.  The first snafu for the event took place when I realized that after I returned to work, no one asked me for any money!  We were all so busy with different focuses that no money exchanged hands!  I remedied the situation by returning to the registration center at the school and giving them my money.  They seemed impressed I did this.

If you can call it a snafu, I’d like to toss in there that this small, local “fun” event did not have chip timing.  It was going to be manual, by the eye, scoring where volunteers would be at the finish line scribbling down times and bib numbers.  (I thought).  Non-chip timing can be traumatic for the serious runner, but I’ll explain later.  I had a little concern, but not a lot.  Sunday was part of my long-run training…  so whether I get a timed result or not, I was still getting my long run in.

The day of the event, I walked the few miles there, competed, then ran a few more miles afterward on my way home.  This netted me my mileage for the day.  All in all, it was fun on Sunday.

HULU Best in Show Brackets

In a week where there were really no surprises, Hulu’s Television Brackets is headed into it’s final weeks.  This week we have COMMUNITY vs. THE SIMPSONS and BURN NOTICE vs LOST.  I’m impressed Lost made it this far and I’m not surprised that Community is up against The Simpsons.

HULU Best in Show Brackets

We told you last week about the Hulu hosted television series bracket competition.  There were some surprises and some not so surprising winners and losers.  Let’s look at this week’s competition…

In comedy, Community is trouncing Modern Family with 84% of the vote.

Workplace Comedies is a closer competition, and it’s too early to say how this will sway, but The Office has 53% of the votes over Parks and Recreation.
