This is a dual purpose piece here on Cinema Static on Brusimm. I touch on the 2nd of the 2-part farewell episode, saying farewell to Marg Helgenberger who plays Catherine Willows on CSI, it’s also about how networks really need look at how they need to more carefully preview their shows.
-
First up, the two-parter CSI story was the culmination of several episodes over a period of time, setting up the exit story for Helgenberger. It also brings to fruition the story of tackling Mark Gabriel (played by Titus Welliver) and his professional hit squad.
But this farewell episode seemed like it was missing something. There were a lot of convenient pieces falling into place and then there were some quick twists that brought in some unforeseen resolutions. It was a nice but quickly paced episode to close this story out.
-
In the first part of this two-part story, the episode ended with Willows being shot. As the second part of this story started, Catherine Willows was bleeding out and on the run from the professional hit squad.
And I did not care one bit about all the blood and gunmen in pursuit.

This upcoming 2011 Thanksgiving holiday weekend, we have a few things going on around the house, much like I suspect you do. If you’re going to be taking it easy and just hanging out around your home, whether it’s quietly stashed away, or with loved ones, your TV is going to be staring at you… calling your name, saying ‘watch me,’ I have all kinds of TV series marathons or movie marathons going on.
I see The Walking Dead, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Battlestar Galactica, NCIS, & a Firefly* marathon… (*If you get Science Channel)
So if you pick up that remote and fire it off at your TV, here are a few things coming up for the Thanksgiving weekend… a TV marathon or two, so to speak.
And folks… to anyone coming by, whether you’re popping in once or a repeat offender (visitor) checking out this post, I want to say from the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who comes by and visits my tiny little corner of the web.
Happy Thanksgiving and bless all of you and yours…
Now, back to my regularly scheduled snark and stuff…

CSI on CBS returned Wednesday night for their 12th season premiere and the gang is back in action. But there will be a few changes coming up this season.
In this new season of CSI, we have the cast addition of Ted Danson showing up in the season premiere.in his new role of I’ve really enjoyed Ted Danson when he was on Damages and I’m looking forward to his stint on CSI. On TV, he was last seen on Bored to Death.
So far he’s brought a certain quirkiness to the role in the first episode. Taking a call from his wife in the middle of a crime scene to laying down in the middle of the crime scene to see what the dead man might have seen last.

A Cinema Static Opinion Piece
What started out as a simple little bit on TV show crossovers, mutated into a comparison of TV and comic books. WTH? There I am writing, then I’m suddenly looking up things for comic book crossovers. Dagnabbit. Any how, I was forced to retitle my original pitch and this is it…. Which is more fun for the consumer, TV or comic book crossovers?
The other day I was motivated to think about crossover TV show episodes. I remember not being so enthused about any of them that I can remember. Don’t get me wrong, I like crossover episodes where characters from other TV show series get to visit different realms. I loved when Ray Langston (Laurence Fishburne) pursued a criminal ring across all three CSI TV shows, CSI: NY and CSI: Miami, and finally back to his own series, CSI, just as one example.
But one of my favorite crossovers took place in the comic book universe crossovers when Batman confronted Predator in Batman versus Predator. Now that, was cool for a comic book! But never discredit when Superman got knocked into space by Hulk or when Superman and Spider-Man crossed paths! Again, more coolness.
While I have great memories of comic book crossovers, TV crossovers tend to fall a little short for me. I don’t know if you’ve noticed but when a favorite character of mine shows up somewhere else in a different TV show, they almost seem smaller than life and don’t have the command of the scenario they usually do in their own TV show.
I remember Ray’s character not being quite so large-as-life in the other CSI titles as he usually was in CSI itself. But I presume that this observation might make sense. The characters are only visiting and don’t want to show up the other regular characters, or dilute the show they’re visiting.

Ted Danson is replacing Laurence Fishburne on CBS’s hit crime-drama, CSI.
Danson’s character is a graveyard shift supervisor who steps up to the role as the team is still reeling from the events between Langsom and serial killer Nate Haskell.
If you’re thinking Ted Danson? The funny guy from Cheers??? Think again. I was a huge fan of the Glenn Close starrer Damages. He’s spent a season being the “bad guy” over there and he was impressive in that dramatic role.
I don’t expect as much in this role as he had in Damages, but I’m not worried at all about his stepping up into the CSI cast-cadre. Yea, Damages was that good.
And don’t forget, we’ll also be seeing the departure of Marg Helgenberger, if she hasn’t changed her mind about leaving the show. I expect her departure sometime in the first few episodes of the 12th season of CSI.

Jewel Staite lands a guest appearance on the CW’s hit demon-hunting drama, Supernatural!
She’ll be appearing in the third episode of the upcoming 7th season of Supernatural and will be playing one of Sam’s childhood friends. Thanks to Buddy TV for the TV news tidbit.

CBS, America’s most watched network, will officially open the 2011-2012 season on Monday, Sept. 19, highlighted by the special series debut of its new comedy, 2 BROKE GIRLS, which premieres at a special time behind the season premiere of TWO AND A HALF MEN.
CBS will once again launch the majority of its new and returning programming during premiere week (Sept. 19-25). SURVIVOR premieres one week earlier (Wednesday, Sept. 14) for the ninth time in the past 10 seasons, and the comedies MIKE & MOLLY (Monday, Sept. 26) and HOW TO BE A GENTLEMAN (Thursday, Sept. 29) will debut one week later.
The new drama, PERSON OF INTEREST, opens Thursday, Sept. 22 preceded by back-to-back episodes of THE BIG BANG THEORY. UNFORGETTABLE premieres Tuesday, Sept. 20 and A GIFTED MAN on Friday, Sept. 23.
“Our playbook is pretty consistent: wherever and whenever possible we use established successful series to introduce new shows,” said Kelly Kahl, Senior Executive Vice President, CBS Primetime. “We’ve also asked a couple of our strongest series to work overtime during premiere week in order to support the new series and bolster our performance.”

First, it was Marg Helgenberger whose last full season was supposedly this last season. Now it’s being reported that Laurence Fishburne will be leaving the hit CBS series, CSI.

Laurence Fishburne has declined to renew his contract with the crime drama series CSI. Expectations are that he’ll be returning to a more full-time return to making movies.
Ever since William Petersen left the series, it’s been an odd mix of headlining cast that has come and gone from the show. If you remember the short 4-episode story arc that Liev Schreiber filled, that was a great role, but alas, he left via the one-way route of death! When Fishburne came on board, I was pretty excited. Here was a known commodity, a likable personality. He took on the genetically challenged role of Dr. Langston and his foil, Nate Haskell, has been a wonderful addition to the background plot.
