Below are some random NASCAR news bites about David Reutimann, David Ragan, Johnny Benson, Kasey Kahne, Mark Martin, and a quickie on Robby Gordon’s Dakar Rally run!

NASCAR News and opinion from NASCAR BITS & PIECES on Brusimm.com

After getting ousted by Michael Waltrip Racing, David Reutimann landed on his feet, so to speak, and landed a ride with Tommy Baldwin Racing, joining Dave Blaney in that Sprint Cup stable.

David Ragan at the 2011 AAA Texas 500 - QualifyingDavid Ragan was another driver that landed on his feet after being ousted by Roush Fenway Racing.  Ragan will be driving for Front Row Motorsports for 2012.  He’ll now be the teammate to David Gilliland.

Not his best shot at fame and glory, w/ no disrespect to the team, but I think we’ll be seeing his name every weekend anyway.

Bob Jenkins owns the team.

-

Last time I heard, though Johnny Benson was plotting a return to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2012, it appeared as if the deals he was hoping for fell through, and he will not be competing in the 2012 season.

54th Annual Daytona 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race

Softer springs, smaller spoilers, smaller radiators, new fuel system and a no-talk rule are all the new rage in NASCAR for this 2012 season…  is everyone ready for some racin’?  I know I sure am…  NASCAR has always been good to me, and the folks within the industry are just awesome to deal with, so bring it ON!

-

With the Daytona 500 only 45 days away, well, one of the longest sportings seasons is about to get back underway, and it started with PreSeason Thunder as the teams got to get out on the track and test the new scenarios they’ll be up against when the 2012 NASCAR season commences once again.

Jeff Gordon paced the morning pack today in practice hitting a lap speed of 192.773 as everyone got on-track and practiced their solo and two-car runs, to see how things are going to shake out.

Kyle Busch, with Joey Logano tailing him, paced the afternoon pack with a 202.402 speed.

And not to mention, how the new fuel injected systems are going to work for the gang.

As teams hit up the track, this is the race, the Super Bowl of NASCAR.  Sure, it’s the first race of the season, but it’s a storied track and many important events have taken place here, in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Coming into today, everyone was looking to get a feel for the smaller spoiler, smaller radiator & larger restrictor plate!  And I presume, they were also possibly playing around with the new radio rule, which is no more chatter between drivers in a race.

NASCAR News and opinion from NASCAR BITS & PIECES on Brusimm.comNASCAR released the schedule for the 2012 Nationwide Series season.  Remember, coming up in 2012 will be the first full-time NASCAR season for Danica Patrick, and Austin Dillon and Travis Pastrana is looking to run most of the season.

The 30th season of the Nationwide Series will have 33 race dates.  Amongst the 2012 season, NNS will be visiting Indianapolis for the first time, on July 28th.

And they’re also returning to Montreal…  a real eye catcher of the season.

“From the season-opener at Daytona International Speedway to the finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the 2012 schedule has a great mix of tracks that will continue to deliver great racing for our fans,” said Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR senior vice president of racing operations. “We’re excited to bring the NASCAR Nationwide Series to the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway, along with the addition of a second date at Kentucky Speedway.”

NASCAR News and opinion from Brusimm.comSince Danica Patrick announced her plans last week to join NASCAR‘s Nationwide Series full-time and Sprint Cup Series part-time next year, the fans and anti-fans have been having a field day.

Since Danica Patrick announced her full-time NASCAR plans for 2012 and beyond, nothing she’s done has gone unnoticed.  Folks are on-board with tracking her 1 in 112 race-win record, or the huge high-heels she wore to last week’s announcement, and of her GoDaddy ads.

To be honest though, being a hater is too easy.  I do get it, I have my anti-liked aspects of drivers of the sport of auto racing.  But hating is just too easy to do and it’s like shooting the side of a barn while being inside the barn.

-

Earlier this week I heard a caller on the Sirius XM NASCAR radio show call in to Dave Moody and trash on Danica Patrick’s scathing GoDaddy ads and the lack of clothing she adorns herself with in those ads.  But this particular called seemed to be a “hater” and wasn’t balancing out things.

Dave Moody & Angie Skinner both asked the caller that if she wasn’t happy about Patrick wearing her firesuit top unzipped and hanging around her waist, showing off a bikini-like ensemble, how did she feel about Carl Edwards being nearly stripped for a men’s magazine?

Ah, how the double standards flew.  She was fine with Carl and Denny’s ads, (Denny’s TV ad has a fake upper torso, but still funny)  The caller definitely couldn’t see the “fun” of the GoDaddy ads and I’m guessing her moralistic meter only had one gender and direction it could go.

I do get her perspective, but one needs to see both sides of the coin before admonishing it.  And this caller somewhat inspired this little tirade!

NASCAR News: Danica Patrick Update

I’m sure you are well aware, but juuuust in case you aren’t, Danica Patrick announced that she is leaving the IndyCar Series and coming to the NASCAR Nationwide Series full-time in 2012, driving for JR Motorsports.  She will also be looking to tackle a few Sprint Cup Series races in 2012… approximately eight to ten of them, with Stewart-Haas Racing.

Danica Patrick signs papers to finalize her full transition to NASCAR

Danica Patrick noted that her eye is on a full-time Cup ride in 2013, but it seems will play it by ear and things are still to be determined.

Patrick said that ever since she stepped into that ARCA ride back in 2010, the NASCAR bug had bitten her.

Danica Patrick NASCAR Commitment

Right now some of the busiest news these days is that Danica Patrick will be making an announcement next week about her NASCAR Nationwide Series plans and JR Motorsports.

Presumably in that announcement, we’ll also be hearing about her part-time ride in the Sprint Cup Series and possible news towards her 2013 plans.

With word on the street that Danica Patrick is coming to NASCAR, it got me to thinking about what records she’ll start busting?

Danica Patrick in NASCAR Nationwide Series

The focused look of Danica Patrick

Already Danica Patrick is the highest finishing female driver in NASCAR, with her 4th place finish at Las Vegas.  That set her in the record books and she was part time.

She has many records that she can break, but there will need to be a distinction.  I can see her breaking every single record for any female that’s ever driven in NASCAR.  She’ll be some of the best teams in the sport, as opposed to other gender challenged drivers who haven’t had the opportunity to get good equipment under them.

Right now Danica sits 27th in points in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.  That’s with only 6 starts.

That puts her 1 up on Jennifer Jo Cobb with 16 starts.

Other women competitors in the NNS are:

NASCAR News:  Danica Patrick coming to NASCAR!

Dave Moody on Sirius XM is chatting up the story that Danica Patrick is indeed coming to NASCAR, starting her career in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, with sporadic Cup Series starts.

Scene Daily is also confirming that Ms. Patrick is indeed finalizing her contract with JR Motorsports Nationwide team and Stewart-Haas Racing for her Cup starts.  Whoa!  Look out Ryan!!!

It looks like Danica is walking from her IndyCar ride at the end of 2011 and coming to the other side of the fence where cars can actually touch each other during a race and not lose a wheel doing it!

In the short term, this will be great exposure for the Nationwide Series.  It will bring new, fresh blood that has a huge popularity factor to it.

NASCAR Nationwide Series Daytona finish - Joey Logano

Joey Logano Wins the NASCAR Nationwide Series Subway Jalapeno 250 Powered by Coca-Cola

Last night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series Subway Jalapeno 250 closed out it’s event with quite the exciting stir.

With 6 laps left, one of the most exciting possibilities for a NASCAR race-winner, Danica Patrick, steam-trained to the front of the pack, being pushed by whom I believe was Aric Almirola.  With 5 to go they found themselves so far out front that what little aero advantage they had went away and the pack caught them.

You could hear the crowd at Daytona International Raceway cheering loudly as Danica Patrick took and held the lead, though it only lasted for 2 laps.

For but a moment, I thought we were going to get to see a piece of NASCAR and racing history in the making.  But alas, it would not be such for our bright green printed GoDaddy Chevy driver.

With only 4 laps to go things started to change for everyone as one tandem team after another jockeyed for the coveted spot that would let them out-draft the others into the win.

100th running of the "Indy 500" in 2011This is going to be a super brief bit of news on the 100th running of the Indy 500. I’m not an IndyCar fan, I don’t watch it that often at all. But today’s race hit some incredible highlights of racing drama that endeared the 2011 Indy 500 to my memory.

First up, it’s awesome to see that IndyCar racing has adopted double-file restarts and that adds an entire depth of dramatic excitement to the ESPN on ABC telecast already. Heck, I think they need competition yellows every 35 laps so we can see more of those!

Back to the 2011 Indy 500: But as the race wore on, as a casual fan of the series, the coverage seemed fine enough for me. For a moment, I got the coverage aspects of a race for the generic fan.

With the laps winding down, the optimal media sound-bite finally hit the air as teams were pitting and Danica Patrick took the lead of the Indy 500. It was short lived as she too had to pit, but it was a gamble on her team’s part, hoping for a yellow. If that yellow had come out while other teams were down a lap, that would have been a huge boon to their efforts. Considering that two cautions of the day bit the team with terrible timing for them.

After Danica Patrick pitted, another driver, Bertrand Baguette, took over the lead but he too had to pit. Then the lead went to J.R. Hildebrand… who had the race fully in-hand, but as he came around turn four, he decided that if he ran out of gas (it was a close call), he didn’t want to jam the teams up behind him… and pulled up out of the groove but he hit the marbles and slammed into the outside wall!!!
