If you’re a Dark Horse Comics fan and curious about the upcoming lineup of titles, check it out, we have a few goodies coming your way:

THE STRAIN by Guillermo del Toro & Chuck Hogan

Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan‘s book series, The Strain, is coming to print.  If you’re read the first two books of this vampire trilogy, you know you’re in for a treat!  del Toro has created a completely new methodology for vampires and expresses it well!

The first book will be an 8-issue run, where that first Boeing 777 lands at JFK and all aboard are dead, and it goes from there!

Dollhouse, Buffy, Angel & The Guild Comic News!

    -

    Dollhouse Epitaths from Dark Horse

We know that during the series run of Dollhouse, Joss Whedon was a wee bit downtrodden about the idea of doing a comic version of the show.  He went from saying “no,” to “maybe,” to there are no plans to do this.  I’m happy to report that now we have definitive news that Dark Horse Comics will be carrying on the torch of the Eliza Dushku starrer in comic book form!  Shiny!  Can I say shiny about a Dollhouse title?  Hope so, I just did!  (But then again… if you read this column, you already knew about the Dark Horse Epitath titles…  right!?  If you were around reading this fledgling website site back in July 0f ’10 that is.)

The Dark Horse Comics Dollhouse title will be written by Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen and will pick up the battle of our heroes after the point in time where the TV series ended, during the era that we were teased about in the episodes “Epitaph One” and “Epitaph Two.”  Whedon and Tancharoen both wrote for the TV series, so they both bring brains full of knowledge and ideas from the franchise.  Hence, I’m not worried about the title flopping in the eyes of the fans.

Cliff Richards will be the artist and we can expect the title to be released in the mainstream sometime in 2011.  (There was already a special preview version sold during the San Diego Comic-Con event.

Joss Whedon's Buffy and AngelAngel from Joss Whedon

    -

If you follow my Twitter Account, Cinema_Static, you might have noticed I tweeted the rumor that “Dark Horse will be bringing out an Angel comic book in 2011.“  Well, now Dark Horse is following my tweet up with confirmation.  (Oh thank god!!!  I hate blabbing wrong stuff!)

In fact, I’ll let the press release speak for itself!

The Guild with and from Felicia Day

Felicia Day and cast are back for the 4th season (already in progress) of The Guild. If you’re saying huh? 4th what? It’s an extremely popular web series by Felicia Day that follows some players of an online game that is like World of Warcraft.

To announce/talk about the 4th season of The Guild, they’ve created a music video to kick it off in style! It’s referred to as a Bollywood-themed vid, but, well, sort of. I’ve seen some good Bollywood and this is just a fun reference to it.

Felecia if rocking these days!  Dark Horse Comics has a comic for The Guild, Felicia Day is headed to Eureka on the Syfy Channel, and Felicia Day will be in an upcoming Syfy movie called RED, where she’s a werewolf hunter.  Busy girl and I’m glad to see that!

Check out the Bollywood-themed Guild video after the break  (PS:  Did I mention Wil Wheaton was in season 3 of The Guild? Just sayin’!:

    Dollhouse Epitaths from Dark Horse

In November of 2009 I questioned if Joss Whedon would come up with a Dollhouse Comic. It’s his methodology that has worked well for him. That’s for sure. And back then I said I’d be surprised if he didn’t create a Dollhouse comic.  Then in December of 2009 Joss was saying that “once Dollhouse is over, it’s over. There won’t be any Dollhouse comics or web series.”  Then in early April 2010, at WonderCon, there was no news on a comic from Joss, but that Dark Horse was eyeing the idea of a spin-off comic.  Then in May, we mentioned that Dollhouse Season 2 was coming to DVD & Blu-ray.

    -

I’ve conjectured till I was blue in the face and I think it all paid off because with the release of season 2 of Dollhouse to DVD and Blu-ray, a limited edition comic from Dark Horse Comics is coming at you too, included with the season 2 combo DVD/Blu-ray disc sets that are coming out on October 12th.  But you can also pre-order the disc/combo set at the Dark Horse booth at Comic-Con.  (I’m presuming it’s at their booth though I’ve not seen the exact words saying that!)

The comic was written by Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen who will hold autograph an session at Comic-Con on Friday, 7/23 11:00am to 12:00 noon.

    Hoo ya!

    Joss Whedon

For the consummate Joss Whedon or Felicia Day fan, you HAVE to get to the Dark Horse Comics Booth (#2615) for their autographs.  It’s not just Joss and Felicia.  They’ll also be accompanied by Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, and Zack Ward.

The autograph session will take place on Saturday, July 24th from 5:00 to 5:45.

    FELICIA DAY

I’d suggest dropping by the booth when Comic-Con opens and make sure it’s not a ticketed event.  There’s no mention of tickets, but “Bruce’s World” experience suggests it can’t hurt to double check!!!  Or just get in line at 10 a.m.!!!  LOL.

    Good luck gang!

    #NOTATCOMICCON LOGO

Even if you can’t make it to the 2010 Comic-Con event in San Diego this year, there are still a few things going on Nationwide that you can partake in and feel like you’re almost there!  (But without being shoulder-to-shoulder with thousands of your closest friends!)

Dark Horse Comics and Red Bull’s ChinaShop Magazine are having a “Not at Comic Con” event that will be spread across the country in fifty-five different participating stores.  I guess these could be considered extremely off-site parties!  Some of the locations the event is taking place at are:

But check the entire list out over on the  Dark Horse blog and see their press release they sent out today!

    Serenity The Shepherds Tale

Serenity: The Shepherd’s Tale – We’ve been waiting for this since forever and a day… or at least since about 1/2 way through Joss Whedon’s sci fi series, Firefly.

The much anticipated Serenity comic, or graphic novel about Shepherd Book’s (Derrial Book) origins is still 6 months away, but Dark Horse Comics has provided a first look at artist Steve Morris’s cover to the graphic novel.  If you remember, we’re all mystified as to where Shepherd Book really comes from and if you dig farther into your memory, there’s a quote from a bounty hunter named Jubal Early, who after knocking out Book said “That ain’t no shepherd?”  What a way to drive us nuts with curiosity!

Serenity fans know he can handle himself in a scuffle, can handle firearms much better than any shepherd should, has a seemingly in-depth awareness of the criminal element and the potential of much more has always been just below the surface.

    Serenity Comic "Float Out"

    Serenity Comic "Float Out"

Dark Horse Comics is releasing a comic book based on 3 stories about the Firefly’s pilot, Wash, titled “Flat Out.”  Was was played by Alan Tudyk in Josh Whedon’s Sci Fi TV series Firefly.

We’ve already seen that Shepherd Book from Firefly has his mystery past coming out in late 2010 in the comic book called The Shepherd’s Tale.  Now we have a comic book story coming out detailing three new stories about Wash written by Patton Oswalt.
