New DVD and Blu-ray releases this week

It always seems that the closer we get to Christmas, the less variety or less exciting DVD and Blu-ray titles tend to come out. And rightfully so as everyone is focused on the holidays and family. But there is still time to snag that last minute gift, especially if you have the questionably awesome service of Amazon Prime where you get almost everything you order in two days!

Not to mention that Disney/Marvel decided to hit up the holiday shopping season with their surprise mega-hit, Guardians of the Galaxy, which is coming out this Tues.

I was surprised by this movie and in my review of it, called it the Star Wars of this generation. That was before I read that from all the other reviews that were saying the same thing. And of course, Disney is making sure we all have new Star Wars material for this generation.

The Blu-ray of the movie will include some of the usual extra content that decent home entertainment releases usually contain:

  • Deleted Scenes,
  • “The Making Of,”
  • A gag reel (that’s never long enough),
  • Audio Commentary

Plus they say there’s an “Exclusive look at The Avengers Age of Ultron.” I’m sure all the piraty do-gooders will rip that and post it sometime soon.

I did not go see Dolphin Tale 2. I am still seriously jaded by large fish in captivity by BlackFish. User reviews of Dolphin Tale 2 out on IMDb scored it at a 6.5 out of 10, so it probably has a decent family fun feel to it.

When the Game Stands Tall received a 6.7 on IMDb. I never got around to it.

Doctor Who‘s eighth season, with Peter Capaldi is now out and I’m sure that’s great news for fans of the show. (Did that seem quicker than normal to DVD for this franchise?)

After that we have a bunch of other shows hitting the DVD/BD market. Check it out below and see what you think!
