First up is some TV news….

DOCTOR WHO SERIES 11.2, Karen Gillan plays Amy Pond

Over the last few months, there’s been speculative news that Matt Smith is leaving Doctor Who.  But a few weeks after the initial report, there’s been a flurry of press bits being pumped out denying that he is leaving.

He is contractually obligated to fourteen more episodes of Doctor Who.

But while everyone is wondering about Matt Smith, we now learn that the Doctor’s companion actors, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill are leaving the Doctor Who production.

They will be back for the next upcoming season, but they’re headed out the door and the next season will be both actors’ final season.

{What is it with the turnover on this series?}

Steven Moffat teased that the end for their characters will be a heart breaking end.

So be it.

Doctor Who Sonic Screwdrivers 2011-05-03_08-56-37_91When I first saw this note about David Yates wanting to direct a Doctor Who movie, I saw it long before anyone else was spun up about it, more than 24 hours prior to writing this.  Now, at the time that I put this together, there are 16 pages of Doctor Who results as everyone pings off of everyone else about this news.

But the news seemed hopeful at best and with the project slated to being a few years off, I said “meh” to myself.  I’ll wait and see how that really develops.

But then one site got ahold of it, a few others saw them, then others and so forth and so on.  This piece now has a life of its own.  So be it.

The movie news for the TV show Doctor Who said that David Yates, who had directed the last four Harry Potter movies, and TV shows like State of Play & The Bill, has been tapped by BBC to help develop a Doctor Who movie with Jane Tranter, the boss of the Los Angeles office  of BBC Worldwide Productions.

And right now, they’re looking for/at writers.

Matt Smith as the Doctor in 'Doctor Who'

It seems that the newest Doctor, as in Doctor Who, is looking to different pastures come the post 2012/2013 season.  Or, in plain, non-tricky English, Matt Smith is leaving Doctor Who.  Or so the speculation goes.

The article is based on a VH-1 interview where, in the interview,  Smith is quoted to saying:

“I’ve got another year of Doctor Who,” he said, “but then I’m certainly going to come and give it a shot, come and hang out in LA.”

They hang other conjecture on a slip up in another interview where he said

“When I finish [Doctor Who], I’ll be…” he paused at this point, seemingly realizing that he was about to give something away, “Well, I don’t know how old I’ll be, but by the end of next year I’ll be 29 so…”

Over the last few seasons of Doctor Who, starring Matt Smith, we had the opportunity to encounter the enigmatic and spoiler free Dr. River Song (Alex Kingston).

When we first met her in Doctor Who, The Doctor encountered her in the nick of time. He had lost or broke his sonic screwdriver, but there she was, with his sonic screwdriver.

Alex Kingston as River Song in 'Doctor Who'

It was confounding and mysterious, all at once.

And then through the last couple of seasons, each encounter with River Song, new clues were dabbled out to the viewers. And through the episodes, we were treated to various aspects of her life, in a fragmented sort of time line.

Cinema Static - TV News, Movie News and other Entertainment OpinionAnd another episode of Doctor Who, the season finale, starts out with their trademark collective of obscure pieces of story pulled together to start the episode off. (It’s very late, I’m very tired.  I hope this makes sense.)

It will all be explained… and if you can survive the confusion that is Doctor Who, it all starts to make sense by about the half-way point, usually.  Except in this case, for me, it only started to make sense in the last 10 minutes.  And I had a full explanation of of everything in the last 4 minutes.

With that said, spoilers of a sort are coming:
