The gang over at DrHorrible.com put out a press snippet noting that “At this time, no license requests are being reviewed or granted with respect to performances of Dr. Horrible.”
What this means is if you or someone or some entity you know was planning on creating a live stage version of Dr. Horrible, but had not inquired about licensing for the project, you / they are out of luck!
On the bright side, obviously something bigger is coming down the pipe for Dr. Horrible because in the same press snippet, they indicated the reason for no more licensing is because “for now, we have plans of our own”
Nice!

If you’re a Serenity fan and live near Portland, Oregon, you’re lucky Basterds! Why? Because on June 26th, 2010 at the Clinton Street Theater, PDX Browncoats is presenting their 5th annual Can’t Stop the Serenity screening event.
The event consists of screenings of Joss Whedon stuff, in case you weren’t on to that already. They’ll show Serenity, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog, River Tam Sessions and Browncoats: Redemption! Portland is only 1 of 7 cities in the U.S. that will be screening the fan-made indie, Browncoats: Redemption.

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog:

Dr. Horrible, an aspiring supervillain with his own video blog, is attempting to join the prestigious Evil League of Evil (led by the legendary “thoroughbred of sin”, Bad Horse), but his plans are usually foiled by the egotistical superhero Captain Hammer. Horrible’s life is thrown for a loop when he falls in love with Penny, a beautiful and optimistic advocate for the homeless he meets at the laundromat, a situation which complicates itself even further when Penny begins dating the boorish, oafish Hammer after he apparently saves her life.
If curious, you can check out my review of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog.

DVD MOVIE OF THE WEEK

My DVD Movie pick of the week is, “The Road.” A rather dismal film yet a film everyone should see! The performances are epic, and the story is spellbinding!

DVD TV SERIES/DOCUMENTARY OF THE WEEK

My DVD TV pick of the week is, “Leverage: The Complete Second Season” which is a cool show that reminds me a lot of the A-Team. This is one of those shows that I watch through DVDs only.

After Joss Whedon was announced as being in the final stages of contract negotiations to direct Marvel Entertainment’s superhero movie, The Avengers, websites started to have a field day. Folks that understand Joss Whedon’s abilities were happy and supportive. Other folk who may have never actually become immersed in anything from Joss Whedon (Meaning never really watched or read) questioned the call for Whedon to direct The Avengers.
Some are fixated on the idea that Whedon could ruin what has already been put forth before him, despite there only having been a few Marvel character movies released to date, that had any kind of quality behind them. We’re banking that some upcoming projects will do as well as Wolverine, Spider-Man or Iron Man has done in their U.S. Box Office performance. But we haven’t seen Thor yet. Captain America has barely begun casting, yet we seem to already think they’re going to be good movies that will go awry when all the characters are pulled together under The Avengers movie project. That seems pretty presumptuous.

If you can’t get enough of Dr. Horrible online, or on DVD and you NEED to have a Dr. Horrible Blu-ray version in your collection, you can now breathe once again!
Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog from that dark, twisted spot in the mind of Joss Whedon, starring the man himself, Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion and Felecia Day, is coming to Blu-ray on May 25th and the pre-order frenzy may begin! Woo hoo! OK… I’m calm… really.
Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog was a 43-minute 3-part internet sensation. In a mere 43 minutes, Joss Whedon packs it all in there: Action, love and tragedy, as only Joss Whedon can do. And to think, all because of the writer’s strike. LOL.
In an interview opportunity with Pop Eater, Eliza Dushku piped up that if given the chance, she would love a role in the sequel to Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.
If she really wanted it, she could probably get it. She and Joss Whedon (Dr Horrible creator) are buddies. I’ve seen it. At 2009 Comic-Con during one of their panels when it was just these two, they were sharing a glass of water and didn’t even notice it. So yea… buds.
As far as Dushku being in the sequel to Dr. Horrible? I liked her in Dollhouse and loved her in Buffy the Vampire Slayer fantasy TV series as the ill-fated slayer Faith. That role suit her perfectly and I think if she were added to the web-series skit in a similar capacity, it would be awesome.
But when she really had a chance to shine and play completely different roles in each episode of Dollhouse, she didn’t pan out for me like I hoped she would. It wasn’t terrible but she didn’t shock me in a good way.
So there ya have it. I’m still a fan, just not a fanatical fan.
reference: Pop Eater.
It’s an awesome month to be a Joss Whedon & Whedon family fan.
We’ve been getting bits of news about all kinds of Whedon projects while Dollhouse gets shelved by Fox for the sweeps month of November. Joss weighs in on Fox’s decision after that, but I’m also choosing to focus a few new bits of news that Cinema Static on SoB has come across.
In case you missed it, there’s Zack Whedon’s Dr Horrible prequel comic, from Dark Horse Comics. Dark Horse is releasing 1-shot comic episodes of different titles, the Dr. Horrible comic being one of them. Prior to the Horrible prequel, Dark Horse is releasing a 1-shot comic of Joss Whedon’s Sugarshock, based on Joss’s & Fabio Moon’s webcomic.
In an article at Newsrama, Zack Whedon talks about the oddness of winning an Emmy for Dr. Horrible. (Did you know that Zack Whedon has written episodes for Deadwood and Fringe?)
He’s also putting together the new AMC television series titled Rubicon, due to air in 2010.
The Zack Whedon article is a fun read. I don’t want to steal the thunder from it, so head on over to Newsrama and check it out!
Joss Whedon stuff on AMAZON
“You know how many people in the world actually die? ALL OF THEM. You know how many I’ve killed? Statistically, somewhat fewer. Can’t we focus on another element of my work?“
This was a quote ripped from a response the Joss Whedon left on a bulletin board that was verifying that he will be directing an episode of Glee.
Yes, Glee.
Many are quite thrilled by this. Me… I guess I’m going to have to watch at least one episode. But there you go.
First, it was “Once More, With Feeling” (Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode), then it was Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Now, he can add Glee to his credits of musicality! His credits of many!
