Syfy channel LogoWe have some great news about Syfy series premieres for Merlin, Being Human, Face Off, Ghost Hunters, Lost Girl and more.

-

Merlin

First up…  Syfy‘s Merlin season 4 will be premiering on Friday, January 6th, 2012.

Colin Morgan plays Merlin, Bradley James is the young Prince Arthur, Angel Coulby is Gwen and Katie McGrath plays the evil, and outcast Morgana. Anthony Head returns as King Uther and Richard Wilson as Gaius.

Merlin is a great little entertaining piece that takes an old tale and spins a great new angle that’s pretty entertaining to follow.  It’s like a prequel of sorts.  And it grows on you from episode to episode!

-

Being Human

Being Human will be returning to Syfy for its second season premiere on January 16th, 2012.

Being Human stars Sam Witwer, Meaghan Rath and Sam Huntington as a vampire, ghost and werewolf, as this series, based on an idea from Toby Whithouse.  And so far, the series has pretty much followed the original series outline, so there’s been no real surprises, but it’s still a great sci-fi drama on Syfy.  I think it’s one of their bests shows they have to offer.

Cinema Static - TV News, Movie News and other Entertainment OpinionWhen Haven first came out, I watched the first half of the first season. I liked it but it wasn’t snagging my attention enough and I faded away from Haven.

Today the Syfy channel had been airing a marathon of episodes building up tonight’s season 2 season finale.

Haven stars Emily Rose, Lucas Bryant, and Eric Balfour about some characters in a town called Haven, Maine. It started out loosely based on a Stephen King novella called “The Colorado Kid.” Characters were swapped around and changed up a bit, and went from there.

In the first season the stories were interesting but they weren’t too complicated and the simple plots didn’t keep me riveted.

OK, sure, I bailed. There, I said it.

But today about mid-day I tuned into the Syfy channel. If anything, it’s great background noise for anything you’re doing. Well, except if there’s wrestling on. But then I started watching the Haven marathon and it looks like we now have a fascinating challenge.

Syfy’s Haven Renewed

-

Haven on the Syfy Channel

If you found yourself engaged in the Stephen King based series on the Syfy Channel, Haven, rest assured you will be able to follow more of Audrey Parker’s indefinite leave from her FBI job or the local cop, Nathan Wuornos, as these two continually deal with the odd circumstances that take place around the town of Haven, ME.  (Though it’s filmed in Nova Scotia.)  Haven has been renewed for a second season.

For me Haven has lost it’s traction and I couldn’t seem to get back into it.  I’m not compelled to turn the channel to it unless I was watching its usual lead-in, Eureka.  Then maybe I would stick around.

Haven on the Syfy Channel

The Haven premiere on the Syfy Channel left me wishing there was more to it.  But maybe there will be more as the show gets its legs under it.

FBI agent Audrey Parker (Emily Rose) is sent, well, requests to follow up a murder case lead that takes her to Haven, ME. Haven, it seems, per the previews, is a town like Eureka, but instead of science going awry, it’s supernatural powers that go awry.

Eric Balfour plays the mysterious character of Duke Crocker & Lucas Bryant played the local town cop who feels no pain, Nathan Wuornos.  (No!  Really, he has a physiological flaw that won’t let him feel pain.)

-

It started out with some odd-ball lame conversation between Parker and her FBI boss that felt like they were rushing to get the character motivations of Emily Rose’s character in the first 2 minutes. (That’s a huge warning flag in the book of Cinema Static!) We then switch over to a foot-chase scene where one fellow is kinetically flown off a cliff.

The SYFY CHANNEL

If you’re wondering what’s coming down the pipe from the Syfy Channel this summer, here’s a quick list of what upcoming TV series finale dates, then premiere dates and after all that, what upcoming Syfy movies they’ve distributed air dates for.

There’s no mention of Red or some of their other high profile original movies they’ve touted in the past. They’re keeping us waiting so we keep having to go back and check for them. Eh, here’s what I do have for your now

Below the initial list are descriptors for some or most of the TV series or TV Movies noted here, alphabetically ordered.

>

Syfy Channel TV Series Season Finales:

-

  • Ghost Hunters Academy:  The season-one finale is scheduled July 7
  • Merlin:  Season-two finale scheduled July 2
  • Stargate Universe:   Season-one finale scheduled June 11

I find it funny in how they’ve distinctly broken up Stargate Universe’s season into 2 distinct halves and still call it season one.  Me personally, the eagle-eyed consumer in me refuses to buy DVD seasons that are titled season 1.0, season 1.5, and other such gimmicks.
