Finally, after all this time, we’re getting our first real video teaser of the Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard movie, The Cabin in the Woods.  It’s been a long road traveled by few, as the film had been completed in mid-2009, but they ran into multiple issues when MG first delayed its release to post-convert it to 3D, and then ran into their financial bump in the road which put the movie into a sort of limbo.  But things started pulling together and finally, we’re seeing new posters and teaser trailers!

The Cabin In The Woods movie poster

A movie poster for Cabin in the Woods came out last week and that was a huge improvement over the old red teaser posters that came out some time ago.

But be it as it may, The Cabin in the Woods survived the MGM bankruptcy and is moving forward for release on April 13th, 2012.

Joss Whedon's MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING

Joss Whedon has been shooting a movie called Much Ado About Nothing.  It was shot in black and white and done in only 12 days, on location in Santa Monica. With his new production company, called Bellwether Pictures, which is focused on the production of small, independent narratives for all media, embracing a DYI ethos.  (Thank you Dr. Horrible!)

We all know that Joss Whedon has been working on The Avengers, a movie many a fan can’t wait to see.  We also know that when he sets his mind to keeping something under wraps, he can do that too.  (Case in point… the plot to The Cabin in the Woods.  I have seen the behind-the-scenes outline, and I think Whedon fans will love this!)

But while he’s been working feverishly on The Avengers, at least I presume, that’s where all his time has been spent.  But now it seems that he’s been lurking about with something else in his back pocket.

A movie called Much Ado About Nothing.  It was shot in black and white and done in only 12 days, on location in Santa Monica.

The website for the film says it’s a film by Joss Whedon, based on a play.  LOL…

The Cabin in the Woods - Split Up from Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard

Calling all fans of the Joss Whedon produced and co-written project that is called The Cabin in the Woods, the news on the street from Deadline New York is that Lionsgate is sitting down with MGM and looking at a deal to distribute the movie.

If all goes well that means we’ll finally get to see Whedon’s production and for those not familiar with how Joss Whedon rolls, you’re finally going to get a look at how he can take a known genre and twist it up!

I’ve seen the purported script and I think, if what I saw is on the up and up, then you’re in for a real treat.  All I’m gong to say is there is a reason it’s named The Cabin in the Woods and not A Cabin in the Woods. You’ll see!

The only reason we haven’t seen this movie yet is it was a slate of movies that found itself an unfortunate victim of MGM’s financial woes.

The Cabin in the Woods - Have Sex

At WonderCon 2010, during the round table interviews, Amy Acker let out that The Cabin In The Woods is actually a creature feature.  Oops.

The film is done but now we have to wait for the 3D post-processing effect to be applied.

I have to wonder if what Amy said was an intentional slip or not.  If it wasn’t I then have to wonder of Joss Whedon and gang might be a bit ticked?  The production team has been incredibly tight-lipped about the film from day one, keeping the public in the dark on the project!

Joss Whedon's DOLLHOUSE

Just thought I’d pass along the reminder that the series-finale of Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse takes place on January 22nd, 2010.  The final episodes leading up to this last day will be

  • January 8th: “Getting Closer.”
  • January 15th: “The Hollow Men.”
  • The series finale on January 22nd: “Epitath Two: Return.”  Felicia Day and Adair Tishler guest star.

It will be the end of a much tormented science fiction, fantasy TV series run that never quite caught on with the general viewing public.

I even had a feeling that despite the hard-core fan-base wanting Joss’s latest television effort to succeed, even some of us were hard pressed to really enjoy Dollhouse at times.  Sometimes the show just dragged for me and at other times it hit on all 10 cylinders of its 8-cylinder engine.  It just didn’t revv up enough to catch a foothold.

It didn’t help when viewers called it things like a show about trafficking.

Dollhouse crossed more social barriers tonight, and then pulls back to show us it was O.K..  Sort of.

Sierra gets given away, supposedly on a permanent basis to a mad man of sorts.

Yet Topher (Fran Kranz), who was to program her for this permanent assignment, shows his true character, based in remorse in this case, and programs her for something slightly different.  To help her.

It goes wrong and now Topher has to deal with the repercussions.  Along comes Langton (Harry Lennix) to help clean up, or more to the point, help Topher do what he needs to.  It was … grody!

Topher, the man who plays with the power of god in this small world as he turns the dolls on and off, into this and that.  We got to see another deep layer of Topher, while we learn about Sierra’s past and poor poor Victor.
