FX Network officially announced that it is renewing the gritty drama, Sons of Anarchy for a fourth season. This while we still have eight episodes left from the third season! Too Cool Indeed!
Then again, are we surprised? It is the No. 1 rated drama on cable and this is great news and more and more shows are getting their next seasons announced!

Scott Pilgrim Bombed.
Let’s Let it Go Quietly.
People are still writing about the shock of the horrible failure of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Hell, it’s doing so bad that my website’s ‘tags auto-detect” system doesn’t want to recognize that I’ve typed it! Dudes, dudettes, let it go.
Sure, Universal Pictures dropped about $100 million in budget and advertising and has only made back less then $20 million.
Sure, Michael Cera has a bland rep. But he was perfect for this role.
Sure, anyone who actually saw the movie loved it. Including myself. But it was a weird sell to pitch to the non-fan. And it caused a huge separation between critics and fans getting mad at each other about expectations and the reality of it.
Me, I was surprised, but I loved it. Other friends of mine had the same experience. Our audiences broke out in rampant applause at the end of the movie.

Just when we thought we were doomed and lost Damages to lousy ratings, DirecTV stepped in and saved the day by wrangling up a 2-year deal with 20 episodes, giving Damages it’s 4th and 5th seasons.
But.
There’s always a Butt in the picture no matter where you’re at. Unlike DirecTV’s deal with NBC that saved Friday Night Lights where the show eventually airs on NBC, Damages will not. Damages will exclusively be aired only on DirecTV, so for all intent purposes, if you don’t get DirecTV, then it is either dead to the cable subscriber or maybe as a DVD purchase down the road.

According to a TV Guide interview with Matt Roush, even though Damages was a much better show in its third season than its second, it looks like FX isn’t going to foot the bill for their high profile cast for a show that wasn’t drawing in enough viewers.
Sadly it did not perform in the ratings game, which was unfortunate considering it really did hit its stride last season.
Eh, so be it I guess.

A Reminder: Rescue Me, starring Denis Leary, is returning to FX on June 29 at 10:00 pm.
Did you know that Rescue Me is slated to close out its run with the series’ seventh and final season in the summer of 2011? Yep.
The final two seasons of Rescue Me will be watching Tommy Gavin’s (Denis Leary) recognition of how deeply he is in need of rescue himself and how time is running out on his last chances for redemption.
Along with Denis Leary, Rescue Me stars Adam Ferrara, Michael Lombardi, Steven Pasquale, Andrea Roth, John Scurti, Daniel Sunjata and Callie Thorne. This has been a reminder from Cinema Static on Brusimm.

Walton Goggins in Justified
After Justified was renewed for a 2nd season, another extension of sorts was created. Originally Walton Goggins was going to be Marshal Raylan Givens’ (Timothy Olyphant) nemesis for a few scenes before being put away properly!
Goggins’ portrayal of Boyd Crowder has been rather captivating and he was part of the success of the pilot and such. Hence, TV Guide is reporting that Walton Goggins has been made a regular cast member of Justified.
That’s awesome news as far as I’m concerned. For anyone who caught the premiere of Justified on FX, you were part of the biggest premiere audience for any FX series, ever.

If you’re a fan of Justified on FX, starring Timothy Olyphant, you and I are in serious luck! FX just ordered a 2nd, 13-episode season!
Justified has been averaging 3.4 million viewers per episode.
My only gripe is that Comcast doesn’t air the most recent episode of FX’s Justified on their On Demand until 7 days after any specific episode airs. I can’t say that does any good for the “live +7″ ratings, but I’m sure it’s just something between Comcast and FX that doesn’t quite gel.

The Timothy Olyphant starrer, Justified, on FX, did pretty good for a cable premiere… it drew in just over 4 million curious or interested viewers for its premiere episode ratings.
The only other FX premiere that did better premiere ratings was The Shield, when it drew in 4.8 million viewers for its 2002 premiere.
Check out my review of the Justified premiere. I think my takes was… justified! DoH!

When people have lunch, they have lunch. It’s not something that might tilt the world on its axis… in most cases.
Then again, the last time the media reported Joss Whedon and lunch, it was with Eliza Dushku, we ended up with the insidious plots of Dollhouse.

HitFix is reporting that FX network president John Landgraf is going to be meeting with Joss Whedon for lunch.
Landgraf has much respect for Whedon since his fave man, Shawn Ryan (The Shield) learned his craft from Whedon on the fantasy TV series Angel.
Any how, according to Landgraf, he said that Whedon’s people called his people to arrange a lunch so that they’ll be having in the next few weeks from now.

The most watched cable network out there for 2009 turned out to be the USA network. USA had an average of 3.3 million viewers. They were followed by the Disney channel with 2.5k viewers, ESPN was 3rd with 2.3 million and Fox News was the 5th most watch cable network with 2.2 million average viewers.
USA got to the 1st spot by a 15% increase of viewers from the previous year. FX had a 10% increase in viewers, giving it an average of 1.4 million viewers.
The largest percentage change of all the cable networks was the Food Network, seeing a 26% increase of viewers, or 1.1 million viewers average.
HBO had a 41% increase, thanks to True Blood and other hit shows, but that’s like Cable Cable where you need to pay even more for it, so I’m not really counting it amongst those channels we can get to a bit more readily without shelling out more bucks.
