Well, after The Playlist prematurely called it, that Gary Ross was not directing The Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire. But then we found out that Ross was out of the country and had not officially made any announcement/decision. Oops.
NOW, The Playlist is playing it up and saying “We told you.”
Gary Ross has bowed out of directing the Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire. To quote Gary Ross:
“Despite recent speculation in the media, and after difficult but sincere consideration, I have decided not to direct Catching Fire. As a writer and a director, I simply don’t have the time I need to write and prep the movie I would have wanted to make because of the fixed and tight production schedule.”
Beyond that, The Playlist goes on to excuse their earlier report for some reason and calling out Deadline for towing the company/studio line. I don’t think they needed to do any of that but it is what it is. Hey, it happens. This time they got lucky after eating crow for a few days. But I may tread more carefully around some of my sources.
