WonderCon Changes Cities

WonderCon logoFirst up, in case you had not heard the news/update, is that WonderCon has moved!  Zoinks!  It used to take place in San Francisco and did so up until this last event in the beginning of this year.  This last event was their best ever attended WonderCon venue in Frisco, where it’s been held for the last 6 years, but now, it’s time to move onward.  I’ve never felt crowded in at WonderCon, but now they’re headed to Anaheim, to the largest convention center on the West Coast.  These are my old stomping grounds which is pretty exciting for me!

Next year, WonderCon will he held at the ANAHEIM CONVENTION CENTER on March 16th to 18th, 2012.  Sweet, I have an entire lifetime of memories down there and I know exactly where I’m headed to eat!  HA!  On top of that, the latest news is that J. Michael Straczynski was just added to their guest list.

With the event moving to Anaheim, if there’s one that that location will offer, is food and lots of it.  Up in San Francsico, there wasn’t a lot for everyone to enjoy.  Locals know where to go and there was a Buca di Beppo, right (almost) next door.  They became very familiar with me there for that weekend!

So I guess we’ll all now meet up in Anaheim!  Right next to Disney Land!

Fringe Alternate DC Comics - Justice League Mock Cover

Fringe Alternate DC Comics - Justice League Mock Cover

A while back the LA Times blog, Hero Complex, tossed up an article on how the Justice League will be getting an origins story.  An all new origins story.  For some, that will set a burr in their craw.  And others, that will probably sound fine.  In my mind, my instant reaction was that this is probably coming about to help create background for the upcoming Justice League movie.

(ABOUT THE ABOVE COVER…  Before you freak out, the above Fringe alternate Justice League cover art was a Geoff Johns idea where they injected some wild alternate DC comic titles as art-work in a scene from the alternate universe in the Fox network series, Fringe.  It was an awesome idea and collection.)

JUSTICE LEAGUE by DaiKaiju

All joking aside, it’s not just the Justice League that we’ll be getting new origin material on.  We’re also seeing a new Superman story with the relaunch of Action Comics No. 1, coming up in September, as they’re looking to recreate Superman for the 21st century.

They’re calling this a creative reboot, or creative opportunity as they hope to retain old fans and snag new fans/readers in the process.  Below is one of the new looks we might be seeing of the reimagined Kryptonian in Action Comics, that was shared with the world from Hero Complex:

But back to one of the points that was made is that there has never been an origins of the Justice League.  This will be an opportunity to see how they all came together and we will get to see the characters initial impressions of each other.  They’re looking to develop each person, as, well, a person and not a persona of their powers.

No spoilers in this front section of my Smallville recap and review:

SMALLVILLE

It is here.  The moment we’ve all been looking forward to and dreading, all at once.  Through the highs and some of the lows, this is what it comes down to, the series finale of Smallville on The CW.  The episode much heralded by many websites throughout the last few months.

This final episode of Smallville was 90% pretty damn good.  The story took care of many of the open stories and we got to see many past characters/actors.  We didn’t see Pete, (Sam Jones III) because ["In October 2009, he was arrested by the DEA on charges of drug trafficking, with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute.TMZ]  His loss.

'Smallville' - The Superman Symbol in Clark's Eye

The story in this final episode was good enough to keep me from being sad that this was the last ever new episode of Smallville.  The last twenty minutes had many recap images of the previous ten years and it was then I started realizing how sad I was becoming that this was it.  No more upcoming scenes.

FROM HERE ON OUT, SPOILERS are in this Smallville recap and review:

WonderCon logoFriday, arriving at WonderCon 2011 the crowd is abuzz with fresh energy, energy that will be well spent cruising the booths, panels and other various activities around the facility known as the Moscone Center South in San Francisco, CA.

I cruised the Wondercon floor looking for GOOD costumes put together and/or worn by attendees.  Unfortunately, mostly the female attendees tend to pull off great demonstrations of such, but I’ll be trying my best to get a fair balance…  if I can.  I’ve cruised events for Immortals, Green Lantern and Falling Skies.

I also saw next week’s episode of the CW’s Nikita.  It’s pretty cool.  It looks like the show has come a long way since that premiere episode that soured my opinion of it way back.

Hmm, I wonder if this counts? Oops!

With that, let’s get on with Cinema Static‘s outline of the first day at WonderCon 2011.

Smallville season 10 promo image - Clark shadow with the Superman capeSmallville is doing what it can to go out with a bang in its final season.  We have Booster Gold & Blue Beetle showing in a Geoff Johns written episode on April 22nd, coming up and a few other neat things.  As noted in the title, we’ve got a bit of info on just why Tess Mercer couldn’t stick the Lex Clone, Alexander (Lucas Gabreel) with that needle!

For one thing, the clone’s journey is being manipulated from an outside source, and that all this will be revealed in the March 4th episode titled “Scion.”

The big ID though, is that

Alexander is actually

Conner Kent, aka, Superboy.

Is that nuts or cool? I think it’s cool.

As far as I can tell, Smallville, starring Tom Welling, is going to be a series remembered when they are done with us.

Tom Welling in Smallville

We’re in the midst of the last season of Smallville, starring Tom Welling, Erica Durance and more.  This is the tenth season and it’s hitting the fans hard with some great quality stories as the creative team behind The CW series is pulling out all the stops to give the fans the best possible experience as the show heads to the series finale.

Below is one of two promo posters released for the final season of Smallville.  The cooler, new image occurs near the end of the article and the image with the reflective image was released a few weeks ago.  The new images included are courtesy of Superman Supersite:

In the meantime, a few things will be coming our way as the Smallville season winds down.

As you may recall, Clark (Tom Welling) and Lois (Erica Durance) are now engaged.  As to whether we see them get married or not in the series, well, the producers are being a bit reluctant to answer that but they do say something big in their relationship is coming up.  But along those lines, they also touched on the idea that living in the shadow of Superman is tough and Lois has to do something to stand out on her own.  We also know that Clark has to grow as a “husband” or partner.

If you consider outline-like details of character appearances as spoilers, then I am thinking you will consider the following info after the page break as SPOILERS!

2010 New York Comic-Con

-

2010 New York Comic-Con is in full swing this weekend and Warner Bros. Television and Warner Bros. Animation are taking Manhattan by storm… or at least by alien and some green powered superhero storm on Saturday!  Panels touched on here were for the ABC sci-fi series V and the upcoming Cartoon Network series, Green Lantern: The Animated Series.

-

The V panel had an amazing three generations of V queens show up in New York.  Making public appearances were Morena Baccarin (Stolen, Serenity), Laura Vandervoort (Damage, Smallville) & Jane Badler (Jane from the original series).  Me, I’d keep my eyes out for some trouble from the skies!

Check out pics from their appearance:
