Cinema Static Top-10 Movies & Box Office NumbersEveryone is doing Top-10 movies from 2011 lists.  Or top-10 movies that they’re anticipating for 2012.  That’s all fine and dandy and I’m guessing maybe some of you like the idea of mulling things around.  (Let me know if you do.)  But in some regard it’s all pretty subjective, depending on who is saying what.

For instance, the connoisseur of popcorn movies might say that Transformers: Dark of the Moon was the best movie in 2011.  Or the comedy movies fan might say that The Hangover Part 2 was the best of 2011.  Or animated movie fans might say that Kung Fu Panda 2 was the best film of the year.

Or the art film fan might say something completely different, and claim that Drive or Hanna were wonderful artistic journey or risks taken by the director.  (But don’t tell the popcorn movie fans that!!!  They might say that the marketing for these movies was nothing but lies and they may never go near another movie from those directors again!)

But a more pragmatic perspective would be to take a look at who you, the movie-goer, spoke with your wallet in 2011.

Tom Cruise and Paula Patton in 'Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol'

Now obviously, there are a few movies missing from this list that should be there, but they’ve only been out a few weeks and they’re almost on the list!  Those movies are Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol; Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, who are both very close to my threshold of getting past the $100 million dollar domestic mark.
