Movies & TV Shows New on DVD and Blu-rayThis is a slower week than most for new DVD & Blu-ray releases, as I’m only seeing around 80 new titles.  None the less, there are a couple of titles coming out that seem to have caught Blu-ray fans attention!  Some of the talent coming out on new discs include Gina Carano,Queen Latifah, Ashton Kutcher and more!

Top-10 DVD/Blu-ray Sellers

But first… how did last week’s new titles stack up you ask?  Well, only one new title made the top-10 best seller list last week, and I don’t think it’s a surprse.  Plus, another non-surprise, is that Game of Thrones is still holding on in the chart, after seven weeks on the market!

Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol

  1. Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol
  2. War Horse (after 3 weeks on the market)
  3. Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked (4)
  4. We Bought a Zoo (3)
  5. The Muppets (5)
  6. Game of Thrones: The Complete First Season (7)
  7. The Iron Lady (2)
  8. The Darkest Hour (2)
  9. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (5)
  10. Hop (5)

Haywire

Haywire on Blu-ray

Starring Gina Carano, Michael Fassbender, Channing Tatum, et al.

On IMDb, over 16k folks chimed in scoring the movie and the average score after everyone has chimed in and gave the movie a score of 6.1/10.  I haven’t caught the movie yet myself, but anything over a 6 on IMDd starts to be considered as an acceptable title.  This movie has only pulled in just under $25M worldwide.  Hmm.  You be the judge.

Cinema Static Top-10 Movies & Box Office NumbersThis weekend, the new movies that hit the box office Friday populated the 1st, 3rd and 5th place spots in the chart of top-10 movies.

According to estimates, The Grey with Liam Neeson will be the lead money maker in the top-10 movies by the time the weekend is over, pulling in $20 million in it’s opening weekend, dominating the other movies by almost double.

Trailing The Grey is a movie in its second week in movie theaters, Underworld: Awakening, which  dropped by more than half from it’s opening weekend, will pull in an estimated $12.5M this weekend.

In third place in the charts is the new Katherine Heigl movie, One for the Money.  Apparently Heigl doesn’t have the draw they’d like her to have and the movie only pulled in $11.7M in ticket sales in its first weekend out. Hmm, no wonder she dropped the soundbite about wanting to return to Grey’s Anatomy.

Outside the top-3 in 4th, is Red Tails with Cuba Gooding Jr.Red Tails dropped nearly 50% from its opening weekend too and pulled in just over $10M.  But still hung on to a spot in the list of top-10 movies.

The new movie Man on the Ledge starring Sam Worthington seemed to have very little draw compared to the other top-4 movies, pulling in an estimated $8M.  Ouch.
