'Immortals' Blu-ray box_art
Brusimm’s movie review and Blu-ray review of Immortals!

Immortals: Directed by Tarsem Singh Dhandwar (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Fall), the cast includes:  Henry Cavill, Mickey Rourke, Stephen Dorff, Freida Pinto, Isabel Lucas, Kellan Lutz and Luke Evans.

Runtime: 110 minutes

-

Immortals is about a mortal named Theseus (Cavill) who has been chosen by Zeus (Evans) to stand against an evil ruler named King Hyperion (Rourke).

Hyperion is on a quest for a powerful mythical weapon, the Bow of Epirus, and what a weapon!

Immortals opens telling the tale of the Titans and then we come to the time of man, and how man forgot about the Titans while they were locked away under a mountain.

We meet the good and honorable Theseus and his mother and then we meet Hyperion.

Theseus is a highly skilled fighter, who was trained by an old man, who turns out to be Zeus (Luke Evans).  Zeus has a plan…  it involves Theseus and humanity and the scourge known as Hyperion.

Immortals covers nothing new, and coming from the producers of 300, they definitely leave their signature production mark on the film.

The film is a visual treat for the eyes, especially on Blu-ray… And the battles are rich in depth and flying, still-framed moments of struggle.  The extras on the Blu-ray disc are pretty neat to watch, as the cast train for their roles and we get some great background on different stages and facets of production.  There’s a list below for more details of extras.

It’s a fun movie but it won’t be finding itself in any record books, so to speak…

Cinema Static Box Office Numbers - Top-10 MoviesIf you’re wondering about the top-10 movies at the box office:  Twilight: Breaking Dawn pt 1 put the bite on The Muppets, Arthur Christmas and Hugo!

As expected, despite some huge family anticipated favorites coming out for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (Pt 1), maintained its grip on the top spot of the box office tallies beating out the three new movies that were hoping for that coveted number 1 spot.

Now unlike much of the media, I’m not going to spend time comparing this to that and that to this… meaning how well Breaking Dawn is doing versus New Moon, etc.  Or how this year, the Thanksgiving movies fared against last years’ and so forth.

Nah, I’m just looking at this weekend, now.  In the time frame we’re living this moment.  With that said,

These are all industry estimates

Twilight: Breaking Dawn pt 1, will be raking in $42M for Robert Pattinson, Kirsten Stewart and Taylor Lautner, bringing the movie gross tally to a whopping $221M take at the box office.  (I hope they’re saving their money from this windfall!)

The best performing new movie that came out this weekend that tried competing with the love of vampires and werewolves, was The Muppets, who will probably pull in just under $30M.

Happy Feet Two retained a top-five spot, cranking in just over $13M, and staying ahead of the next new movie, Arthur Christmas.  Arthur mustered up just under $13M in holiday money.
