TV News

Cinema Static - TV News, Movie News and other Entertainment news and opinionCheck out some bits of TV news I dug up for the upcoming new seasons for Fringe, House, Law & Order: SVU and Storm Chasers:

-

Fringe‘s new season will kick it in gear in what I gather, will be the future from where it ended last season, when Peter didn’t seem to exist.  The whacky part though, is a quote or two from executive producer Jeff Pinker to TV Guide:

The future that we had seen in Fringe in past episodes, will now, not be the same.  Since past events are changed, that impacts the unfolding of future events.

Pinker also said the following:

“There will definitely be [flashback] episodes, but the past would be different as well because Peter wasn’t a part of it, but he would be in the future.”

-

Law & Order: SVU will be handling Chris Meloni‘s exit in an absentee fashion.  We will not be seeing Meloni in the upcoming new season of Law & Order: SVU in other words.

Instead, season 13 of L&O: SVU will be starting up with Stabler on adminstrative leave and Olivia will be figuring out how to do things on her own.

House M.D. Season Finale (S7)

.

House MDThe 7th season finale of House on Fox opens with a bang.  It’s dark out and Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) is talking to a police officer, Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) is nursing what looks like a broken or twisted arm.  Cuddy is telling the cop if Greg House (Hugh Laurie) comes near her again, to arrest him.

-

The following quickie recap is nothing but chalk-a-block full of spoilers!

We go back some hours to see House in the hospital gauging the team’s new patient, a demented-appearing artist.  Well, don’t true artists always seem demented to some degree or another?

Taub (Peter Jacobson) is running from the ex-wife that he was getting back together with, while he’s supporting his fling’s pregnancy newly announced pregnancy.   But a double-whammy, literally is tossed at Taub, being that his ex-wife is also pregnant.  LOL.

He shoots, he scores!  Twice!

HOUSE: Lisa Edelstein as Dr. Lisa Cuddy.

Lisa Edelstein as Dr. Lisa Cuddy on House M.D..

You would think that going into an eighth season for Fox’s House M.D., that everyone would be on board.  We had a slight scare when it looked like Wilson might not be around but this one came out of the blue for me!

I’ve spent some time chatting with folks behind the scenes today and some are shocked and some are not to hear the Lisa Edelstein is moving on and leaving House.  Back on May 10th, Cinema Static noted she had not renewed her contract yet.

Cuddy, who is played by Edelstein, has already broken up with House so that’s not going to be an issue.  But they still, continue to have to deal with each other.  Or more to the point, Cuddy has to continually deal with House’s antics.  Though I think antic might be a little on the light side.

It will be a shame to see her go, but she’s moving on into the realm of acting and producing, as she put it.

Of course it’s a hard thing.  It’s always hard to leave most anything behind that you’ve committed a piece of your life to.  I get it.

So with Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) having no Cuddy, I wonder who is going to get the brunt of his … “attentions.”  Take that term either way you want.

Hugh Laurie in HOUSE on FoxIn Fox’s House M.D. episode previous to the finale, things got very out of hand for a few of our medical team members.  House (Hugh Laurie) discovers that the experimental drugs he’s been stealing and using have caused tumors in the test mice.  He does his own MRI and sees the tumors in his own leg.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, or Thirteen’s (Olivia Wilde) apartment, a jail cell buddy shows up with a stab wound and via her word to the woman, Thirteen chooses to treat her friend at her own house.  She drags Chase (Jesse Spencer) into it, who forces the issue to get the stab victim to the hospital because she has started developing the standard set of complicated symptoms we’re used to seeing in House M.D..

And in trying to deal with the idea that his younger fling is pregnant, Taub (Peter Jacobson) heads off to a strip joint to think about it.  I like “how” he thinks!

This is one seriously confused bunch of people.  If you think about it, this is a very dysfunctional group whose very dysfunction is the root of their brilliance!

Robert Sean Leonard as Dr. James Wilson in HOUSERemember all that talk from Robert Sean Leonard about wanting to move home and such, and then the fans started to worry we won’t see his character on House any more?  Worry no longer.

Word on the street is that Robert Sean Leonard and Omar Epps have sealed the deal to return to the next season of House M.D., on Fox.

Lisa Edelstein has yet to resign, but expectations are positive.

Hugh Laurie and Olivia Wilde still have active contracts that will take them through next season.

As far as the show goes, the other word on the street is that Fox and the series production company, Universal Media Studios, will be finalizing their deal by close of business today (5/10).

What a whacky, weird episode of House on Fox…  everyone was angry with each other and House (Hugh Laurie) is tapping some form of drug that’s not his usual pill.

Thirteen’s (Olivia Wilde) attitude about the bomb-maker job in the defense industry is something that got under my skin.  Folks in the defense industry aren’t war mongers, just folks that need and have jobs.

House’s obsession with trying to dodge paying his bet to Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) was most interesting at best.  Annoying that he would go to such great lengths was the my focus with the episode.  Then I start to wonder what’s up with the destructive behavior from House, destroying things in Wilson’s office to get him to stop asking questions?

And when we find out he’s been scoping some test drugs to make his leg better seemed to be as about as low as any drug addict or desperate victim would go.  Untested drugs, willingly taken… that is nuts.  All the while, ignoring the patient his team had to focus on other things.

Robert Sean Leonard as Dr. James Wilson in HOUSEOver on TVLine, they chatted with Robert Sean Leonard who plays Wilson on the Fox hit, House M.D.. In the interview, Leonard touches on his returning to Broadway & this being his last contractually obligated season of House and such.

-

First up is that Robert Sean Leonard is returning to Broadway for the play, Born Yesterday. He’ll be part of a cast that includes Jim Belushi and Nina Arianda.  Right now the show is in previews, but what I did not know was that Leonard has a bunch of Tony nominations and a win under his belt for his work on Broadway.

But on to the crux of the matter and that’s

Robert Sean Leonard’s Contract with House

I’ve seen some article titles out there that suggest that Leonard is leaving House. At least you are led to believe that when human nature kicks in and reads between the lines. But to be blunt, it looks like Leonard does not know what’s up with his contract.

He noted that there is no deal for the Fox series House with anyone and he goes on to add that

because Comcast bought NBC Universal and no one has a deal.”

He is in his last season of his contract and he was trying to debate about his schedule because he can’t do both Broadway and House M.D.. With that in mind, he chose to get on board with Born Yesterday since he had heard nothing about a new contract.

On if this is his last season of House, he replied,

If you haven’t seen this episode of House, I’m pretty much not filtering anything here, so beware.  Spoilers are ahead:

What a wacky weird episode that was of House M.D., on Fox, titled “Bombshells.” And boy, there were a few.  We had multiple stories, one mainly concerned with House & Cuddy, with Cuddy being sick, yet the episode still maintained an underlying ‘patient of the week’ story as well, and that was a loaded gun, no pun intended.  And interspersed throughout the episode were dream sequences showing us character’s fears.

House and Cuddy both had their dreams that showed their issues & fears.  It was an odd way to give us an alternate perspective on things, but to be honest, as different as it seemed, it wasn’t a bad change-up from the usual episode presentation.

The two dreams that stood out:

The zombie craze comes to House, but House is secretly an action figure as he not only took the presence of zombies in stride, but was prepared with that multi-use cane of his that took attachments to become different weapons.

House MDIf you follow my site, you know I had knee surgery a few weeks back.  One of the side affects from the surgery is that I’m now using a cane temporarily during the healing process.  When you’re using a cane, you become attuned to all the canes around you and other places.  For me, after starting to use the cane, I had settled into the couch to watch House on Fox.

It took me all of about 5 seconds before I started laughing pretty hard after starting up the episode of House.

As we all know, House pushes the boundaries of his social and working environments.  And as I’ve discovered, I think Hugh Laurie, who plays Gregory House, he’s been taking a back-handed shot at an established medical practice on cane usage!

He’s been getting away with one subtle rule of cane use all these years and I never knew it…  since I’ve been using the cane every doctor has said to me while using the cane on the same side of the lame leg, “Don’t peg-leg it!”

Apparently you’re supposed to use the cane on the opposite side from the leg that’s bummed.  LOL, what a wonderfully insidious little trick Hugh Laurie has been pulling on us all these years.

At least that’s my presumption!  Those pesky people behind House on Fox!!!  I love it.

The upcoming episode of House on Fox has us seeing Cuddy dealing with some health issues and reevaluating her priorities. While Cuddy is dealing with her own issues, she’s hoping House will show up when she needs him most.

We’ll be treated to a series of dreams showing us Cuddy’s life with House. The dance number we’ll see was choreographed by So You Think You Can Dance’s ex-judge, Mia Michaels. (She puts together some great sh**!)

Below are a few preview clips and a ‘behind-the-scenes’ clip for the House episode titled “Bombshells.”
