Will you be seeing Joss Whedon‘s The Avengers in 3D? I wasn’t planning on it, but Disney may have swayed my hand here! Damnit!
-
As far as 3D movies go, I’ve dug my heels in hard. It seems pointless to fork out extra cash for most live-action 3D movies unless there’s CGI involved like in Tron: Legacy, or Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Animated features seem to benefit the most from 3D, bringing that type of movie to life.
But there’s very little that can get me to fork out the extra bucks for a live-action 3D movie these days. It doesn’t add anything to the live-action movie. But then again, it looks like Disney has found my weak spot!
Disney and RealD have come up with the concoction of custom designed 3D movie glasses based on characters from The Avengers.
And I have to tell ya, it’s tempting, if for anything else, to have a pair of your own super cool 3D glasses.
I spotted some news for casting calls for a few movies… Akira, Iron Man 3 and Riddick: Dead Man Stalking.
These casting calls went out in November, but in two cases, they haven’t started filming yet. And for the one in production now, production companies are always looking while production is live.
In each case, you need to follow the directions at the other end of the links I provide at the bottom of this casting call update.
Not following directions is a sure fire way to not get noticed. With the competition for these roles as they are, I’d think it would be very important to read the directions and insights for each opportunity.
With that said…

This week, the tide of new DVD & Blu-ray releases is slowing down a bit with the Christmas season in full swing! There are around 70 new titles hitting the market this week on Tuesday, December 20th, 2011.
You can look for stars such as Harry Connick Jr., Owen Wilson, Dianna Agron, Morgan Freeman, Chad Michael Murray, Tom Hardy, Kevin Spacey and Paul Bettany amongst the list that you can take home.

Before I charge in to the new releases, don’t forget that some folks on your Christmas lists (Or maybe yourself!) might like to get some more popular older titles… I for one am looking to start filling up my Blu-ray coffers a little bit… and some of these titles are priced pretty decently. I mean heck, if you wait long enough, older titles get pretty well priced!

News on the street is that the third installment of the Iron Man movie franchise, Iron Man 3, will be shooting in North Carolina.
The head of the state film office of North Carolina said that Iron Man 3 will be the largest production to ever shoot in there and will last 10 months.
The shoot will take place in Wilmington, and last around ten months. Marvel Studios was pondering shoot locations in Los Angeles, Michigan and New Mexico before choosing NC.
Other productions that have shot in North Carolina include The Hunger Games, and TV shows Homeland, Eastbound and Down and One Tree Hill. All in all, twenty-nine productions are in the state as of September, bringing as much as $200 million to the state.
I’m not usually too hip about posting every set image from movies I come across, but I thought I’d toss out a few images from the set of The Avengers that I came across over on the Marvel Movies Facebook page. It’s crazy how many photos they’re getting and the latest collection of images is coming from The Avengers set in New York City.
First up though is the movie promo poster for The Avengers:
-
Next up, is the obligatory legal warning to anyone that finds themselves wandering onto the NY City movie set of The Avengers, or as they call it by it its now, not-so-secret code name: “Group Hug.”
-
Either the extras were given the keys to a prop car, or this is a scene of some of the carnage resultant of, well, whatever destruction is taking place in the movie!:
Over the last few weeks, the Joss Whedon directed Marvel movie, The Avengers, has been getting crazy with how many production movie images and videos and such are hitting the internet. What surprises me is how much is being left on the Internet by either Marvel Enterprises or Paramount Pictures (the distributor) is fascinating me.
(Oops Note: The title is supposed to read Production Images and Videos, not preproduction.)
First up, I chat a bit about the vids and images coming out for the movie. Then I chat about my concerns about how much marketing is coming out and then, at the bottom are the spoilers/images for the movie.
What movie is this The Avengers from Joss Whedon? First, it’s due out early 2012, but not to be confused with the 1942, 1950 or 1998 movies of the same name, or the 1961-69 TV series. The Avengers is the ensemble of super heroes in a comic book title of the same name that had been produced by Marvel Comics since, well, as long as I can remember. And we’ve been previously treated to individual movies of most of the core characters of The Avengers with Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and the various Hulk movies.
Since the movie has gone into production, we’ve seen recent vids out of Cleveland of Captain America jumping out windows and stills of Cap, of peculiar vehicles or objects in the movie set. I’ve even seen spoilers of where people that were cast extras tweeting or blogging about their scenes and what they took part in.
ComicBookMovie.com put up an update of sorts where they chat about the third movie in the Iron Man series, Iron Man 3, with David Gambino, the president of Robert Downey’s Jr.‘s production company. In this article, they touch on Shane Black writing the script and how he’s slated to start scribing in August.
They address his different approach to writing and call his style,
“his corky sensibility is going to be great for the series. It’s going to feel, like a reinvention of what it can be as opposed to continuing the saga.”
(Why am I grimacing inside?)
They say that Robert Downey Jr. and Shane Black have been working together to make sure they make the right calls and
“making sure that they’re making the right choices to take the series in a place, that’s going to be surprising, not going to feel like a rehash.”
Michael Chance brought the team behind his Project Arbiter to Comic Con to have a bit of fun at the event. The theme was that there was a contagion spreading about and only the man in the Project Arbiter armor could possibly help. Scientists warned the crowd and Con visitors were scanned. It was fun for all there was had. Check it out below:
As you roam the floor, hallways and rooms of San Diego Comic Con, there is no way to avoid the numerous fun things that pop up at the place, related to Star Trek, Doctor Who, Total Recall, The Avengers and more… Check it out:

The 2011 International Comic Con event that took place in San Diego in July is close to one of the biggest fan-gatherings for the entertainment venues that covers comic books, film and TV. More specifically, a specific genre of the entertainment industry that entails fantasy & sci fi.
This year fans and media flocked to the San Diego Convention Center and tales of fun and whoa were both regaled from folks I chatted with. This year, it seemed that you needed to place yourself in line much earlier than normal to get to your chosen panel for your favorite movie or TV show. For one, I’ve never heard tales before of fans getting in a line for a show 3 hours early and not getting into the panel they wanted, but that’s what I did hear from several folks that I chatted up in San Diego over that weekend.
But one of the things folks get to see and do is take pictures of cool things.
