NASCAR Nationwide Series Daytona finish - Joey Logano

Joey Logano Wins the NASCAR Nationwide Series Subway Jalapeno 250 Powered by Coca-Cola

Last night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series Subway Jalapeno 250 closed out it’s event with quite the exciting stir.

With 6 laps left, one of the most exciting possibilities for a NASCAR race-winner, Danica Patrick, steam-trained to the front of the pack, being pushed by whom I believe was Aric Almirola.  With 5 to go they found themselves so far out front that what little aero advantage they had went away and the pack caught them.

You could hear the crowd at Daytona International Raceway cheering loudly as Danica Patrick took and held the lead, though it only lasted for 2 laps.

For but a moment, I thought we were going to get to see a piece of NASCAR and racing history in the making.  But alas, it would not be such for our bright green printed GoDaddy Chevy driver.

With only 4 laps to go things started to change for everyone as one tandem team after another jockeyed for the coveted spot that would let them out-draft the others into the win.

If you must know, Jeffrey Earnhardt will be driving for Rick Ware Racing in the Camping World Truck Series race at Kentucky!

Thought you’d like to know.

Dale Earnhardt Jr in the NO. 8 ChevyWhen Dale Earnhardt Jr. left TEI…  I mean DEI, he tried to take the No. 8 with him.  But Teresa Earnhardt, via shrewd business focus, or spiteful step-motherly mode, retained the number.  Something or other about the image of the number, and the team.

As if the ‘image’ of the No. 8 was going to help DEI at the time.

Now Dale Earnhardt Jr. went on to drive the No. 88 for Hendrick and the No. 8 went through a few drivers before

  1. DEI getting absorbed* into Ganassi racing to become Earnhardt Ganassi Racing (EGR)
  2. Losing sponsorship for the No. 8 car
  3. Mothballing the soon to be ex-famous number.

Zippo 200 at the GlenCongrats to Marcos Ambrose for taking on the man of all drivers and beating him, Kyle Busch.   I got a kick out of Kyle not liking the pass Marcos made, but it was the necessary move and Kyle would have probably done the same thing if the situation were reversed.

I’m glad that Kyle had the wherewithal to stop after cutting the chicane.

It was a daring good move!

Jeffrey Earnhardt came onto the NASCAR scene today with his debut in the Nationwide Series, and of all tracks to do it at, Watkins Glen!  Talk about trial by fire!

Jeffrey brought his #40 Key Motorsports Chevy in at 24th, staying on the lead lap all day.

Awesome.  I hope he’s just not another one of those guys who can only turn both left and right!

Did NASCAR completely miss out on Robby Gordon trashing on poor Joey Logano?  Or did it not really happen when Logano’s car did the Human Torch imitation?  I know that the standard is that the person who causes the caution doesn’t get the lucky dog, but somehow they missed Robby’s fender-temper!  Poor Joey.  But at least he handled being ticked off pretty smooth.

“You can’t fix stupid.  It’s forever.”

It was a fun race to watch.  Can’t wait for Sunday Cup!
