Below are my Comic Con panel terse recaps for Torchwood, Eureka, Warehouse 13 & True Blood.

"Comic Con" News

-

Torchwood

In the Torchwood panel at Comic Con, the panel consisted of John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Mekhi Phifer, Bill Pullman, Alexa Havins and writer Jane Espenson.

The panel had a bunch of levity and was a nice experience of laughter. But to look at the specific points made in the panel about the show:

Espenson said things will be getting darker as the Torchwood: Miracle Day progresses.

Espenson wants the fans to really embrace the theme of this season and look at the bigger picture of the effects from Miracle Day.

No word on renewal yet.

Eureka

The Comic Con Eureka panel guests included cast members Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Neil Grayston and Felicia Day. Also on-panle were executive producers Jamie Paglia and Bruce Miller. The panel was moderated by Wil Wheaton.

They chatted about Eureka‘s new space program, a love triangle and the animated Christmas special coming up.

Here, they chatted about things like how Day found it easy to fit into the cast.

Salli Richardson-Whitfield will be directing the episode titled “Omega Girls.”

And this year’s Christmas episode will be an animated ‘sode, with multiple styles of animation.

Other than that, it was just a fun experience…especially when the entire audience sang happy birthday to Colin Ferguson. (Yes, they said it was his birthday.)

Oh, on that love-triangle? There will be some tension between Dr. Holly Martin (Day), Dr. Parrish (Wheaton) and Fargo (Grayston).

John Barrowman fr 2009 Comic-ConWith the advent of Torchwood: Miracle Day premiering on STARZ on July 8th, fans of the franchise can’t help but wonder, what with John Barrowman again reprising his role of Captain Jack Harkness, if there could be a chance if he might once again reprise that very same role in the new Doctor Who series with Matt Smith.

Yea… that would be pretty nice, wouldn’t it? Believe it or not, the idea has actually been brought up in the hallways and back rooms of the show-runners of Doctor Who & Torchwood, or so John Barrowman has teased the world.

Barrowman has indicated that both Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat have chatted about bringing back Harkness. Since Jack showed up in that swan song scene with David Tennant, the thought has stuck in their craw.

Barrowman has publicly made it known that he’d return to Doctor Who at the drop of a hat!  Whether it being in the cards will actually make it a reality is a totally different matter.

'Torchwood Miracle Day' Key Art image001A new promo video for Starz/BBC’s Torchwood: Miracle Day series is coming up…

First, if you’re not familiar with the Torchwood franchise, it’s a spin-off from Doctor Who and is about a covert team from what’s known as the Torchwood Institute.  The Institute ends up scavenging alien technology during the course of their duties as they are the ones called up to deal alien threats posed to Earth.  An elite task force that is separate from the government, outside the auspices of the police, and beyond the control of the United Nations.

With that said, for those who are familiar with the franchise, we’ve moved on beyond the last mini-series, Children of Earth and today we have Torchwood: Miracle Day, a day when everyone stops dying.  The cast includes John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Mekhi Phifer, Lauren Ambrose and Bill Pullman.

For folks new to the franchise, you do not need to have seen previous renditions of Torchwood to be in-the-know. It’s very easy to jump into the franchise, so if you’re brave enough, go for it.  I’d recommend it.

For fans, Miracle Day will be taking place several months after the team disbanded back at the end of Children of Earth.  Now, without the backing of the organization, with all their equipment having been destroyed, they have to figure out how to deal with the menace they face now, even if it means facing off against the system.

In the trailer below, notice that as the deaths decline, the birth numbers start to increase like mad?   If you really think that not being able to die is a good thing, think again.

Torchwood: Miracle Day will be premiering on STARZ on July 8th, 2011. Cast includes John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Kai Owen, Mekhi Phifer, Alexa Havins, Bill Pullman with special guests to the Torchwood franchise, Lauren Ambrose and Arlene Tur.

'Torchwood Miracle Day' promo art

Torchwood: Miracle Day, from show-runner and original creator Russell T Davies, is about a day when nobody dies. No matter what happens to them. Yet with no one dying, suddenly the Earth’s resources become stretched thin.

I’m sure it will be an incredible 10-hour mini-series. I have faith.

First though, in case you had not heard, Captain Jack Harkness, played by the ever-popular John Barrowman, will be sporting a new coat.

Wha!!!!???? But his old coat was iconic!

'Torchwood Miracle Day' Key Art image001Back in June of 2010 Cinema Static gave you the heads up that Fox dropped the ball on a stateside series and Starz picked it up. Then in January 2011 we let you know about the primary cast of Torchwood: Miracle Day.  As you can see, we are staying on top of the important news of the series.  Face it, were fervent fans here!

John Barrowman as Capt Jack Harkness in Torchwood

John Barrowman as Capt Jack Harkness in Torchwood

If anyone out there has seen Torchwood, you know what a damn good show it is.  Starz Entertainment announced this morning they’ve acquired the rights to air the newest episodes of Torchwood, and that will start in the Summer of 2011.

Earlier this year, there was a remote chance that Torchwood was coming to Fox,  but alas that didn’t happen.  Not sure why, though I have my suspicions about conservative worries.  Regardless of that, Fox’s loss is a win for Starz.  And a big win it is.

Torchwood will star John Barrowman (Capt. Jack Harkness) and Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper) with other cast announcements to follow.

See the press release below for all the fun details:

John Barrowman fr 2009 Comic-Con

ABC has landed one of the more popular imports in recent times.  They’ve landed John Barrowman (Torchwood) for at least a 5-episode story arc on Desperate Housewives as the bad guy in the Angie mystery.

John’s participation in the show will show up in April and run through to the end of the season.
