Right now, Joss Whedon‘s ensemble superhero team movie, The Avengers, has amassed 25 different box office records, some of which include “Opening Weekend,” “PG-13 Opening,” “Second Weekend,” the fastest movie to reach $100M, $150M, $200M, $250M, $300M and $350M. That’s so awesome it’s almost funny how these superheroes are putting a beat down on so many box office categories.
At the time of this writing*, The Avengers was just shy of $381M domestic, and just over over $1B worldwide. (*I sometimes write and don’t publish for hours or days.)
It’s awesome to see, though in part, these records are helped being set by the 54% higher priced 3D tickets and 130% higher priced 3D XD and IMAX screenings, both of which account for two-thirds of its screenings. But who cares! It’s setting some awesome records regardless. Cripes, I’ve seen it twice and yet to catch it in 2D, though it’s not critical you see it in 3D, it does add a certain visual yummy feel to the movie experience.
In comparison, Avatar holds 10 records and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, only holds 6. (Now.) Sorry James, but no throne is held forever, no matter how impressively it was taken!

The DVD / Blu-ray release of John Carter is coming out this June. Now that was a short amount of time for a movie to go from silver screen to blue disc!

I don’t know about you, but despite the movie John Carter, not being so bad, you would have thought it was the ugly step-child of Disney’s as they tried to ignore it as best they can while “looking” like they put their best foot forward. In fact the trailers told me nothing and did not inspire me to want to see the movie at all, by themselves. It took an incredibly well done, fan-made trailer to actually get me excited about the movie.
In fact if it had not been for the fan-made trailer, I would have waited for the movie to come to VoD!
But be it as it may, I went and I enjoyed myself.
On IMDb, the user generated movie score for John Carter is busting out at 7/10. Believe it or not, that is really pretty good for movie ratings on the site.

Now, Disney looks to be releasing the Taylor Kitsch & Lynn Collins starring movie on DVD/Blu-ray pretty quickly, which also means that if you don’t subscribe to snagging the new Blu-ray or DVD packaging, you can also look to rent it On Demand.
Either way, if you haven’t gone to see the movie yet, it looks like you will be able to rent or own it by June 5th, 2012.
