Brusimm Cinema Static Movie NewsThe following are some Cinema Static thoughts or opinions on The Avengers; the early sales of The Dark Knight Rises movie tickets and and taking 21 Jump Street down the comedic route… what???

Read on gang, see what I have to say…  =

The Avengers

the avengers - captain america

If you have not heard, it seems like The Avengers movie is going to be presented to the movie-goer from the perspective of Steve Rogers, aka, Captain America.

Which might make sense, since in the comics, Captain America led the Avengers.

It will be interesting as Joss Whedon has brought ensembles to the fans before and how he’s choosing to bring the narrative to the movie-goer now.

I’m looking forward to The Avengers.

The Dark Knight Rises

Christian Bale in The Dark Knight Rises

Did you know that some screenings of The Dark Knight Rises have already sold out?  Yep… the movie doesn’t come out until July, but Fandango has been selling tickets to the movie already.  This has culminated in the sell-outs of midnight screenings of The Dark Knight Rises in New York and Los Angeles.

Boo… if you life in LA or NY.

New Movies at the Box Office from Cinema Static 2011 logo 475w lq

This week the new movies coming out on Friday, October 28th include cast members such as Olivia Wilde (two releases this week), Johnny Galecki, Johnny Depp as a social drinker, Amber Heard, Rhys Ifans, Antonio Banderas (voice of), Jennifer Lawrence, Jason Statham , Hugo Weaving in something where he’s not beating someone up, Odette Yustman & Castle‘s Stana Katic!

If Paranormal Activity 3 is anything like it’s two older brothers, the theater drop off rate will probably either make room for Real Steel to come back to the top, or let one of these other newbie entries to take the number 1 spot.

After looking at the upcoming new releases, I think In Time will do well.  And don’t forget, I take suggestions as to what movie you guys want me to go see to review for you! (Please be nice!)

First up,

In Time

In Time is directed, written and produced by Andrew Niccol (Lord of War, The Truman Show & Gattaca). The cast includes Cillian Murphy, Matt Bomer, Johnny Galecki, Olivia Wilde, Alex Pettyfer and Justin Timberlake.

The film summary says:

It’s the future and people stop aging at 25. Then they only live one extra year after that. But if you have the means, you can buy more time to live beyond that year. It’s this setting that we find Will Salas accused of murder and on the run with a hostage, who may have a connection with a way to beat the system.

Looking at the director/writer’s resume, I’m thinking this movie definitely won’t suck!

This week the list of new DVD and Blu-ray releases include a lot of Blu-ray titles and TV shows.

New Movies & TV Shows on DVD and Blu-ray

In conjunction with Disney’s movie theater re-release, there is, amongst other titles, a new set of packaging for The Lion King for the Home Entertainment market!  Beyond the lion, we are getting ourselves some Vin Diesel & Dwayne Johnson action in the surprise action movie, Fast Five.  We’re also seeing a first time release to Blu-ray with writer/director Quentin Tarantino‘s Pulp Fiction.

If you waited for the boxed set of the entire series, then you’re in luck if that TV show is Friday Night Lights!   And season 1 of AMC’s The Walking Dead is hitting shelves also.

Green Lantern DVD!

Green Lantern on DVD and Blu-rayThis week we also see the initial release of the extended cut of Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds.  This is the movie fans of the franchise loved, but movie fans in general wretched from seeing.  But judging from how far down I had to dig to find the title in a list of titles sorted by sales stats, I’m guessing there aren’t enough fans to bring this bad boy up near the top of the heap.  Green Lantern pre-sales seem to even be beat by a few Pee Wee Herman titles.  My unprofessional observation is telling me they need to pump this up as best they can for initial sales numbers!

Transformers 3 DVD Warning Note

Transformers 3Transformers 3 (Dark of the Moon) came out on DVD & Blu-ray last Friday.  As a renegade amateur consumer advocate, I have to say beware!!!

The version that came out was the movie only disc.  No extras, no interviews, no nuthin.  When I popped in my DVD version in my DVD player, my only options included ‘play,’ ‘select chapter,’ and ‘setup.’  If you like to spend your money on packages with extras, you’re either going to have to wait.  If you’re anxious to own, then you’ll be popping bucks on both.  Personally, I think it’s a crap tactic and I wish they would release a movie in all options during the first week.  Period.

But we have to remind ourselves that they wouldn’t do this if it didn’t work and enough people didn’t spring for both.

This reminds me of my COMCAST VoD service…  when a movie comes out for its first week of rental, well, cool!  But then a few weeks later you then see the director’s cut or extended version cut show up in the menu.  Boo.

I do my damndest to never double-dip.  It doesn’t feel fair how some of these media outlets take advantage of your enthusiasm for a franchise!

I’m off my soap box, here’s a list of new DVD releases that’s coming out this week.

Brusimm Cinema Static Movie NewsHere are some Cinema Static movie news bits on the Star Wars Blu-ray release, the Lone Ranger and more.

-

Star Wars Blu-ray Release Setting Records

It would seem that we all love our Star Wars and the idea of the entire set of six films being on Blu-ray disc.

The Blu-ray release had a huge amount of goodies on the 9-disc set and those goodies are probably baiting fans for the new release.

The Blu-ray release is setting records.

One million copies have sold, pulling in $84M worldwide.  For the Blu-ray format, it is now the best selling title in the format.  Ever.

Follow this link for more info on the Star Wars Blu-ray release.   Go past the new DVD release notes.

The Lone Ranger Movie News

Amongst a bunch of ambiguous statements, The Wrap reported tonight that Disney stopped production on the Johnny Depp starring movie, The Lone Ranger.  Well, maybe co-star, since Depp is playing Tonto while Arnie Hammer is playing Texas Ranger.

Cinema Static Divider - TV News, Movie News & Various Opinion

The Wrap‘s sources don’t give any viably solid reasons, but more like guesses as to why production was halted.

Guesses are that the costs of Depp, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski could be part of it.

'The Tourist' starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie

The Tourist movie review from Cinema Static on Brusimm.

The Tourist stars Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie in a movie written and directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (The Lives of Others). Other cast includes Paul Bettany (Upcoming Priest), Timothy Dalton, Rufus Sewell and other fine looking cast.

Depp plays Frank, a tourist who finds himself caught up in a rather interesting web of intrigue that Jolie (Elise) drags him into.

-

The movie opens with police following Elise to her morning coffee spot. She gets a note delivered by a courier. The police tailing her call their boss asking if he thinks the courier is someone they’re looking for, a one Alexander Pearce. He says he thinks everyone looks like him. They end up arresting the poor courier. The note, is for her, with instructions on how she can lose the police.

A peer of mine whom I work with had seen the animated feature film, Rango, starring the voice power of Johnny Depp.

The next day, he had this to say:

  • It was a modernized version of the classic fun of the Looney Tunes,
  • The animation is incredible and what they can do with it these days,
  • At first you know it is Johnny Depp voicing Rango, but then you get so lost in the story that you forget it’s him,
  • Rango was fun.

And that concludes this “peer’s movie review” of the movie Rango!
