Cinema Static - TV News, Movie News and other Entertainment OpinionAfter having seen both Battleship and The Avengers, there were a couple of things that stood out for me from both of these movies. In one movie, there was something about the cast that I found myself appreciating and in the other movie, there was something that caught my eye, that was one of many interesting tidbits from the movie.

In Battleship

In Battleship, one of the characters was a physical therapist for the disabled military veterans. They took a moment to scan a room of veterans and they stayed on one particular vet, who became part of the story.

It was double amputee by the name of Gregory D. Gadson, who played the big man, named Lieutenant Colonel Mick Canales.

Director Peter Berg reached out to him to cast him in the role.

I think it’s pretty awesome that Berg had a platform showing off the might of the U.S. military and then used that platform to also give some veterans screen time.

Very cool Mr. Berg.

In The Avengers

This really isn’t anything huge, and can’t really be called an easter egg in The Avengers, but here’s something that someone made note to me the other day:

As the closing scenes are being shown, we watch Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Pepper Potts (Paltrow) going over plans for the new Stark hi-rise. The camera then pans back from the building.  If you recall, the logo on the side of the building did say Stark something or other, but as the battle ensued around the building, all the letters but one were torn off the side of the building.

'The Avengers' on Blu-ray and DVD Sept 2012The Avengers is coming to DVD & Blu-ray rather quickly compared to most movies.  And again, that’s another completely refreshing aspect to this movie from Joss Whedon.  First the awesome action, humor, and the incredible dynamics of the character ensemble has made this movie an incredible box office smash.  Literally.

Joss Whedon’s The Avengers is an awesome fun movie of superhero proportions.  I’ve seen it and loved it, but then again, who hasn’t seen it?

Technically, the answer to that is the Japanese.  The Avengers opened on May 17th in Cambodia and Georgia (Shurismadzieblebi) and will open in Japan on August 17th.

'The Avengers' on DVD Sept 2012I would really be hating to live in Japan and watching all the hype going on right now around the rest of the world.  But once it opens in Japan, that should boost the bottom end of the box office numbers pretty nicely, since their average movie ticket price is $21!  (overseas ticket prices aren’t cheap)

But be it as it may, The Avengers is coming to DVD/Blu-ray on Sept 25th, 2012.

I find that incredibly awesome because I was resigned to waiting a long time before this movie hit the home entertainment market.

Here’s what the offerings will look like:

Should Joss Whedon Thank Fox TV + One Fan’s Meager Thank You

May 11, 2012

This bit starts out as one of those, “What If,” alternate reality conjectures.  What if Joss Whedon stepped on “that butterfly?”  And then I drift off into another direction, touching on his Thank You Letter to his fans, and then a bit more from me, my own thanks.  For what it’s worth. The space western from Joss Whedon, Firefly, seems to be on sale this month in both DVD and Blu-ray formats on Amazon.  It’s not a huge sale, but a sale is a sale!
