Dark Shadows

When I read that Tim Burton and Johnny Depp were partnering up to tackle a remake of the 1960′s goth soap, Dark Shadows, all I said was OMG and I said that for several reasons, all of them good.

Jonathan Frid in Dark Shadows

Jonathan Frid

Dark Shadows ran from 1966 to 1971.  It was created by Dan Curtis (Burnt Offerings) with Jonathan Frid, Joan Bennet & David Selby (The Social Network; on TV: Tell Me You Love Me) amongst the cast.

Despite a few efforts to remake the show and capture the imagination of fans, remake efforts have been a bit flat.  For those who take the time to settle in and check out an episode or three of the original, the show seems to still have what it takes for appreciative fans.

But with Seth Grahame-Smith (TV: The Hard Times of RJ Berger) tapped to write the screenplay for the remake, I can’t help but wonder how much pressure comes from looking at an established classic tale of love & hardship amongst the supernatural genre of monsters?  Yes, this was the soap that predates The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, True Blood and Twilight!

AMC TV LogoOf all the cable channels out there, I’ve always felt that AMC was top of the crop of free cable channels.  And October is the perfect month to pull out the stops and hit the viewers with some of the classic horror movies on the tube!  If you’re old enough, you’d remember the days that AMC was commercial free!  Alas, everything changes.

AMC is pulling out the stops and hitting you with Alien and Aliens, some Bruce Campbell, all the Friday the 13th‘s, A collection of Halloween’s and the standard collection of monsters.

Some of my favorites are airing in this Hallowed month:  Alien, Aliens, Pitch Black with Vin Diesel, Thirteen Ghosts and Tremors.  Who doesn’t love Tremors?

Check out the schedule from AMC for October 2010 after the break.  The list is first sorted by date, and then by movie name.

The Day The Earth Stood StillThis Day The Earth Stood Still remake, directed by Scott Derickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) and written by David Scarpa and Edmund H. North (1079′s Meteor), starts out pretty mysterious and exciting as Keanu Reeves finds a glowing orb in the mountains and ends up with a strange metal thingy on the back of his hand.  The next time we see him, the alien visitor is reborn in Reeves image.

Jennifer Connely is swept out of her home by mysterious govt. entities that had the roads cleared to be able to transport her to the designated destination.
