The Kenseth’s Are Expecting
As we head into the 2011 NASCAR season with barely a few weeks left before the Daytona 500, you must know that Matt Kenseth and his wife Katie are expecting a child… well, Katie is expecting and Mr. Kenseth is along for the ride as dad-to-be!
The Kenseth’s are expecting the new little bundle sometime between now and the end of February. NASCAR’s Speedweeks starts next weekend, with practice and qualifying events taking place between Feb. 11-19, and the Daytona 500 on Feb. 20th. This kind of timing could put a crimp in Matt Kenseth‘s driving duties as a happy, expectant dad.
Standby Drivers
So Roush Fenway Racing has put a few drivers on standby in the event Matt Kenseth has to go somewhere. Those drivers are are Kenny Wallace and Brian Ickler.
Kenny Wallace is in standby mode for the Daytona week and Mr. Ickler will be prepared to drive for the Roush Fenway team during the following Phoenix and Las Vegas weekends, if need be.
Kenny Wallace has had 344 Cup Series starts in his career and is probably one of the most under-rated drivers out there.

This week NASCAR rolls into the Talladega Superspeedway, formerly the Alabama International Speedway. This racing facility is rich with NASCAR history.
Big Bill France built this track and opened up for business with the first race in 1969. Throughout those 41 years this track has witnessed some of NASCAR’s highest highs, as well as some of the lowest of lows.
When the track first opened and all the drivers got their race cars out on the track, the high speeds and the tire failures that occurred during practice led the drivers to band together and refuse to race on that opening weekend. The drivers voiced their opinion to Big Bill France, he got into a race car, proceeded to drive a few laps and announced that it was perfectly safe.

Ever wonder what some of the drivers Twitter accounts are? Wonder no more! Or at least there’s no more wondering about these guys.
Montoya is pretty busy Twitter guy, both on and off the track. Kenny Wallace is a blast all the time. (“Ha Ha Ha.”… you’ll see what the means.)

This morning I was listening to the guys (Nate Ryan & Pete Pistone) on SIRIUS XM 128, and they’ve been doing an awesome job in talking to the media / reporters and such who were let go due to the NASCAR Scene & SceneDaily closing / absorption.

This morning Jeff Gluck was on the radio with the morning boys. (Above image is Jeff having fun with John Daly of The Daly Planet.)
First, Jeff’s voice is a very youthful. I never gave it much thought. When you read someone’s words, your own vision or version of a voice infiltrates your perception. Odd how that is, at least for myself here on NASCAR Bits & Pieces.
Jeff has a great sense of abstract humor about his present situation as he reflected on getting a job with a magazine, thinking how working with a magazine that has a subscriber base is a good job to have. He then made note about Twitter and how it affected the industry.

Kenny Wallace Says Thanks!
Kenny Wallace is headed to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Canada with a few fans on his car. His regular sponsor could not sponsor the car in Canada, so Kenny came up with a cool tribute type car that I forgot about… damn it.
The “Thank You Fans!” Chevy will have over 5,000 names of the fans who participated in a special one-time program. They’ll be there amongst the other “primary” sponsors like Shockwave Sign, JEGS, Impact Racing, UMP, IMCA, Macon Speedway, USMTS, Heitz Trucking Inc., HTI Logistics, Corey Renovations, and Valley Towing, but they will be associate sponsors on the No. 28 this weekend.
