Law & Order: Los Angeles

-

I remember when Law & Order was pulled before setting a TV record and that it seemed it was killed off in favor of a new spin-off, Law & Order: Los Angeles.  But when I tuned into the premiere of Law & Order: Los Angeles, it was weird to see how they were making a huge deal about the Hollywood aspect of the Los Angeles region.  It wasn’t very real, it was too glitzy, too weird.  I haven’t tuned in since, even though I’ve been accused of being a Skeet Ulrich fan.

Now the latest news coming from the production of LOLA is that some cast have departed the show…  Regina Hall, Megan Boone and Skeep Ulrich.

I can’t tell if it is a mass exodus or studio-backed reorganization but for the Skeet Ulrich fan this is yet another sad moment in the appreciation of the man’s work.

We’ll manage until his next show, but dang, this is a disappointment!

David McCallum and Pauley Perrette in NCIS

Finally!  NCIS‘s medical master himself, Dr. Donald Mallard, or Ducky for short, played by David McCallum, is finally getting himself an origins episode!  It’s taken 8 seasons, but we’ll be getting ourselves some early Duck!

Along with the origins story, Catherine Dent (Shield) has been cast to show up in 2 episodes of NCIS as former Agent Whitney Sharp.  Sharp has a past with Dr. Mallard and is referred to as a bright and capable agent.

David McCallum’s Acting Past

-

For the man who plays Dr. Mallard, David McCallum, aside from his NCIS work, he’s also voiced some characters in animated projects during his NCIS tenure.  In 2009, he voiced Zeus in an animated Wonder Woman vid, in 2008 he voiced Alfred Pennyworth in Batman: Gotham Knight.  Also in 2009, he’s voiced Paradox in Ben 10: Alien Force & did other voice work in 2009′s The Replacements as C.A.R..

It appears that McCallum is a hard working actor who doesn’t sit on his laurels just because he’s in one of the biggest ratings netting series on TV!

David McCallum in The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Prior to NCIS, McCallum’s most lengthy role was that of Illya Kuryakin in the 1967 series, The Man from U.N.C.L.E..  After that, he played John Grey in the 1991 series, Trainer.  After that, he did spots in Babylon 5, one episode in a 1997 episode of Law & Order, a 5 episode stint in 1998′s Team Knight Rider and a 9 episode stint of 2001′s The Education of Max Bickford.

The Origin of NCIS

David McCallum in NCIS

The consummate NCIS fan may already know this, but McCallum played Dr. Donald Mallard in a TV series prior to NCIS, in JAG!  The consummate fan will also know why.

The concept for NCIS was shown in two episodes of the CBS series JAG (episodes 8.20 & 8.21).  It was these two episodes that introduced the characters for NCIS.  From there, a spin-off from JAG, NCIS, premiered on September 23, 2003 on CBS.

NBC Officially Cancelled Law & Order after deciding they can’t afford to order one more season of the police drama franchise.

Dick Wolf, whose antics during the negotiations, disappointed me, didn’t disappoint after the cancellation announcement.  Wolf said “Never Complain. Never Explain.”

On the really bad news side of things, with the May 24th season (and now series) finale already shot, fans won’t be getting any kind of closure with the episode of Law & Order.  Arg.

Earlier today word on the street was that NBC was looking to let Law & Order go by the wayside.  In other words, cancel Law & Order!  Later reports on THR were then saying that NBC was scrambling to renew Law & Order.

It seems the cancel rumors were starting to swirl when Dick Wolf was rejecting a low-ball license fee offer.

The cancel rumors actually came from Dick Wolf’s office, if you can believe that!  Seems kind of dirty, but business is business, and he may doing what he can to tilt the negotiation scales in his favor.

It’s May 2010, and we all know that this is season finale month on television.  With that in mind, I’ve put together a list of TV Series season finale dates for May of 2010 for you.  Some of our favorite shows are coming to a close for the season, such as American Idol where I fully expect Crystal Bowersox to win.  Bones (Seen it, you’ll love it), Castle (Seen it, can’t say), Chuck, Criminal Minds, all the CSI shows, Dancing with the Stars, FlashForward finally comes to a painful flash-stop, Fringe, Ghost Whisperer, House M.D. (which is having a great season), Law & Order , Law & Order: SVU, Lost, both NCIS TV series, Smallville, Supernatural, The Biggest Loser, The Vampire Diaries & the ever painfully slow told science fiction series “V”.

I think it’s awesome that “24″ is ending on May 24th.  What irony that worked out that way.  Meanwhile, you might want to take note that Lost is ending on a Sunday.  And don’t forget, we’re all bidding farewell to Simon on American Idol.

My list here on Cinema Static on Brusimm is in two parts, for my many fans who want to copy it out for yourselves.  The first part is sorted by date, if you’re looking for a specific date.  That’s right after the break.

The 2nd part of the list, the TV series’ are listed alphabetically by title.  (Cause I’m always thinking of you guys!) Click this link for TV Series Season Finales Sorted Alphabetically!

Elliott Gould is hitting up Law & Order and doing it in a vengeful fashion.

Well, actually he’ll be playing a business man who isn’t happy with recent criminal events in his Harlem neighborhood and takes matters into his own hands.

I think the drama of this episode’s situation won’t be the “crime” but rather the legal wrangling on what is right and wrong in society.  I bet they’ll make it an interesting episode indeed.

It will be airing November 20th.

Good news for all the Law and Order fans out there.  At least good news for one episode…

Benjamin Bratt will be making a guest appearance in a single episode where he’ll be reprising his role as Det. Rey Curtis.

No airdate has been announced yet.

Too bad he isn’t coming back for more than an episode… that would be cool, being has how E-Ring and The Cleaner didn’t pan out for Bratt.
