A Monster Calls review

This is a quick movie review of A Monster Calls.  The film starts out sounding like a child’s fantasy film but it turns into so much more than that.  The film cast includes Felicity Jones, Liam Neeson and Sigourney Weaver & Lewis MacDougall as Conor.

“Conor (Lewis MacDougall) is dealing with far more than other boys his age. His beloved and devoted mother (Felicity Jones) is ill. He has little in common with his imperious grandmother. His father has resettled thousands of miles away. But Conor finds a most unlikely ally when the Monster (Liam Neeson) appears at his bedroom window one night. Ancient, wild, and relentless, the Monster guides Conor on a journey of courage, faith, and truth that powerfully fuses imagination and reality.”

Liam Neeson movies.

The film is directed by J.A. Bayona, whose resume includes The Orphanage, The Impossible, and the upcoming film, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom!

When the film starts, we see Conor’s day and it’s shit! Not just the typical shit, but the usual bully problems, the added family issues and then his mother gets sick. And it all comes to a head.

Then one night, the house shakes, and a huge face appears at his bedroom window, a face with gleaming red eyes, and this face tells Colon a story. The first of three and then Colon must tell this tree monster a story in return, the fourth story, that he will be required to tell when it is his time to tell it.
