lie to me

Today it was found out that Fox has put the nail in the coffin of a few shows that folks were interested in, making room for other new pilots and such for the upcoming 2011/2012 TV season!

We’ve already noted that Human Target, Breaking In and The Chicago Code were all cancelled by Fox.  Now we can add Lie To Me to that list of dumped shows, and Traffic Light, if you watched that.

Shows that Fox has picked up to add to its slate of entertainment includes Alcatraz, Finder, New Girl & I Hate My Teenage Daughter.

About Alcatraz

Alcatraz is a Bad Robot (J.J. Abrams) production that will include stars Sam Neill, Jorge Garcia, Nagra Parminder & Stargate alumni Paul McGillion.

The show is about a team of FBI agents as they try to figure out the mystery behind a group of Alcatraz prisoners and guards who suddenly appear in present day, after having gone missing 30 years prior.

Other cast includes Jason Butler Harner, Jonny Coyne, Robert Forster, Santiago Cabrera and Sarah Jones.

Back in 2005, John Gertz Prods (JGP) had purchased the rights to the novel “The Interview Room.”  The book is about a shrink who is an expert at figuring out when folks are lying.

JGP turned that into a screenplay and they called it Lie to Lie.

In 2007 they presented their premise to Fox for a pilot and a few subsequent episodes, but Fox supposedly declined.

Then in 2009, Fox premiered their Tim Roth starrer, Lie To Me.

JPG is suing Fox for breach of confidence and for developing an incredibly similar premise.

Cinema Static on Brusimm logo

Continuing my new & returning show premier pieces that talk about the shows that are launching or relaunching this week for the mid-season time-frame.  Popular TV series returning from their midseason breaks include Chuck, Family GuyLie To Me and the NCIS shows.  Some of the new shows popping up include The Cape & Lights Out.

I’m as much of a genre fan as the next viewer and I’d love to see a genre show have a reasonable amount of success, but I’m just not feeling a good vibe.  What I mean by good vibe is that I don’t think the Nielsen families that make or break the fate of TV series.

David Lyons in The Cape

The Cape will star David Lyons (ER, Sea Patrol) as Vince Faraday, James Frain (True Blood, Tron: Legacy), Summer Glau (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Dollhouse) & the deep-voiced Keith David (Death at a Funeral, Lottery Ticket).

Lie To Me

Tim Roth in Lie to Me

Lie To Me starring Tim Roth looks doomed.  Fox did not order any more episodes beyond the thirteen they already have in stock for this present season.

Spokespeople for Fox tried to make it clear that the show wasn’t canceled and any future the show has, has yet to be decided.  No decision has been made yet, though we can look towards the spring for any real decisions to be made.

Fox did something like this to Lie to Me last season.  At least they didn’t re-order the episodes!  (Or have they?)

TV Ratings on Brusimm

TV Ratings for Sun through Tues saw the NFL (27.8) dominate prime time Sunday, DWTS (20.0) won Monday but NCIS trounced it on Tuesday with 19.8 m viewers.

On the cable side of things, Hannah Montana Forever (7.1) won Sunday, MNF (15.0) won Monday and Sons of Anarchy pulled in 3.2 million viewers.

Stargate Universe viewers are down to nearly one million flat, with maybe folks bailing on the show/network with its partner show Caprica having been canned.  And as the ship’s crew finally discovered that Rush had been running the ship and no one is happy.  The Col gave him an ass-whooping for it, to boot.  Yea… the crew has finally taken their seats on the bridge.  Now we’re going somewhere as they decide:  Try to go home, or continue the quest of the ship and that’s discover what was in the middle of the big bang that started it all.  Meanwhile, Syfy’s WWE Raw pulled a strong 4.6 million viewers in for the network.

TV ratings for the 7-day week starting on October 20th didn’t see any real huge surprises as DWTS, NCIS, CSI, Criminal Minds and other Brusimm favorites that dominated the Nielsen TV ratings charts.

Mark Harmon, Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo in NCISI think her name is Caprica, and she’s dead Jim!

The top TV broadcast of the week was Sunday Night Football, followed by CBS NFL Football!  This week reality TV crawled up past scripted drama as Dancing with the Stars was the 3rd most watched show last week, even though NCIS had a 4 percent increase in viewers from the week before.  (I am not tracking the % change in DWTS.)

CSI & Criminal Minds saw 3% more viewers and the huge viewer jump was with the Rocky Horror Glee episode which saw a 52% increase from the previous week’s repeat episode.

Blue Bloods & $#*! My Dad Says saw a 7% increase while Hawaii Five-0 had a 7% drop in viewers.

Ian Somerhalder and Steven R. McQueen in The Vampire Diaries

Other favorites that had good weeks was The Vampire Diaries which  saw a huge 46% increase from the week before in viewers.  While Supernatural’s story is getting pretty good in its sixth season, 15% fewer viewers got to enjoy it.  Smallville’s final season episode last week saw a 23% drop in viewers.

NCIS with Michael Weatherly and Mark Harmon and Sean Murray

(L-R) Michael Weatherly, Mark Harmon and Sean Murray in NCIS

This last week saw the scripted crime drama NCIS actually beat out all the reality TV shows execpt one, if you can call the NFL a reality program, though luckily, it’s a sport so we don’t need to label it that!  NCIS had a small boost in viewership from the previous week…

The big jump in viewers was CSI, with an increase of almost 14% from the week before and CSI: Miami, heartily surviving Sunday night and having a 13% increase in viewers.  Detroit 187 also saw a great increase in traffic, at around 12%.

Though I seem to like Law & Order: Los Angeles, almost 14% fewer viewers did.

Smallville did well for The CW with just over 3 M viewers, and a huge 27% increase in viewers, as Supernatural also pulled in over 23% more viewers than the previous Friday night airing.

Of the top 15 shows, 6 of them are on Sundays, while Thursday & Tues each have 3 slots in that top-15.
