New DVD and Blu-ray Releases from Cinema Static

Despite over 300 new DVD & Blu-ray releases coming out this week for their September 28th sale, I had a tough time pulling out what I felt were good titles for my readers.  Yet, as you may very well know, the most important title release this week, as far as brusimm.com is concerned, is the release of Iron Man 2! (Which is in transit as we speak!)  As you go down the list of releases, having pulled out the best of the best, you might understand how sparse it is out there this week!

New DVD and Blu-ray Releases from Cinema Static

Welcome to the New DVD Release Report for August 10th, 2010.  This week there are over 190 new titles hitting shelves and there are a lot of choices to choose from. This week, hitting the shelves we have Date Night with Steve Carell and Tina Fey. For the older folk who have seen it, a classic TV Se… Se… Series: Max Headroom comes to DVD; and he’s joined by some cartoon classics like Bugs Bunny & Daffy Duck on their won DVD’s!

If you’re the comedy fan, Date Night would be the movie of choice… to date, it’s brought in $149 million worldwide.  If I had to pick, I’d settle on Numb3rs.  Always a fascinating show, bringing math and police procedurals together to catch the crooks.  It doesn’t sound like it would work but I’ve found myself always getting caught up in the episodes.  It’s presented well.

The Last Airbender Movie Novel

The M. Night Shyamalan-directed film, The Last Airbender, is headed to theaters pretty quick. In fact, even sooner than originally planned.  The movie was slated for a July 2nd opening movie day, but now the release date of The Last Airbender has been moved up to Thursday, July 1st.

Here’s one of the earlier movie trailers:

This is a good calculated move considering that the July 4th weekend can effectively give Airbender a 5 day opening weekend! (Federal employees have Monday, July 5th off.)

The Last Airbender Action FiguresAmazon:  The Last Airbender 3-3/4″ Figures Aang

But that’s not all the news. In conjunction with The Last Airbender, we’re going to be seeing toys, books and more hit the shelves for the Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Pictures’ feature film.  We’ll be seeing books, a full line-up of products inspired by The Last Airbender plus, believe it or not, home décor, apparel, jewelry and accessories from trusted names that include Nordstrom’s, American Greetings, Simon and Schuster, Random House, Stride Rite, and HP to name a few.

kekkaishi manga

If you’re a Kekkaishi manga fan, for a limited time, the frist episode of Kekkaishi is available for a free download from iTunes, Xbox Live’s Zune Marketplace, PlayStation®Network and Amazon Video On Demand through June 17th!

“Based on the hit manga series, the fun-filled supernatural action adventure stars junior high school student Yoshimori, a “kekkaishi” (or barrier master) by night, guarding the Karasumori region and exterminating the supernatural creatures that are drawn to the area night after night… But by day, he has other demons to contend with, like an obsession with cake making and a seriously crotchety grandfather!”

Sounds great to me!
