Sad day indeed.  First we here at Cinema Static and our readers lose Stargate Universe to lousy ratings.  (You’ll see my dissection of that scenario in a future post.)  But now news on the street is that Fox has added Human Target, starring Mark Valley to the halls of canceled TV series.

I had come to enjoy Human Target and they had started developing the characters in a very productive fashion and I was enjoying it more in the second season than the first.

But alas, another Cinema Static favorite has spiraled out of control and cratered in the land of cancelled shows.

Boo.  I was really starting to enjoy Jackie Earle Haley‘s portrayal of Guerrero too!  We’ll be seeing more of Jackie Earle Haley in the upcoming movies, Dance of the Mirlitons, Bolden! & the Tim Burton directed Dark Shadows remake.  We’ll be seeing Mark Valley in the upcoming project, Medallion, on the silver screen.

Last night’s airing of The Bachelor had a lot to worry about and I’m thinking pulled a lot of viewers in with the controversy of Emily’s NASCAR racing experience group date with Brad.

Though it was built up by the networks and other venues, and a bit confusing to me about her having to address the issue, it was addressed and in the end, she came through this event by tackling the deal head-on.  Good for her.

I explain why I was a bit confused here, Emily Maynard’s NASCAR Date.

What confuses me is that Brad continues to give that nutcase, Michele, a rose.  People say it’s proof that ABC meddles with their reality TV programming, because a lot don’t think Brad is that interested in the girl.  Whatever, it gives us someone decidedly easy to dislike.  (Especially if you’ve been keeping up with some of her news from the past.)

Harry’s Law, starring Kathy Bates, pulled in a strong 7.4/12 with the overnight numbers.  The Bachelor, a 7.1 rating/10 share.  The Cape pulled in a 3.3/5 & Chuck, a 3.5/6.

HUMAN TARGET: Chance's (Mark Valley, L) daily meditation is interrupted by Ilsa Pucci in the HUMAN TARGET Season Two premiere episode "Ilsa Pucci"

At the season finale of season 1, Winston was abducted.  In the Nov 17th season 2 premiere of Human Target, titled “Ilsa Pucci”, that situation is remedied rather quickly in the teaser opener.  And immediately upon rescuing Winston, Chance disappears to a meditative retreat in Nepal.

Human Target starring Mark Valley

His newest client shows up in Nepal after tracking him down, she needs his protection and he returns to San Francisco and the team reassembles to protect their new asset.  But this time around in Human Target, Christopher Chance (Mark Valley) is more focused, Guerrero (Jackie Earle Haley) seems even more cold & calculating & Winston (Chi McBride) is just still Winston!

The new client in this episode is Ilsa Pucci, played by Indira Varma (HBO’s Rome) and a new player in the show is Ames, played by the devilish and lovely Janet Montgomery (HBO’s Entourage).

TV & Movie news & Opinion, weeding out the static

If you were wondering what show is returning or premiering in the Fall 2010 television season when, I’ve pulled everything together in one spot here from my various lists shown by Cinema Static on Brusimm.  My own lists were confusing me, so I suspected others might have been bewildered also!  With that in mind, let’s check out what I’ve put together so far! [Updated with three Syfy Channel premieres]

SMALLVILLE Season 10 - Tom Welling stars as Clark Kent

The first part of my list is sorted first by new TV series by date, then returning (renewed) TV series by date.  Farther down, I have everything sorted by show name, if you were indeed looking for something specific.

"Hawaii Five-O" Alex O'Loughlin and Scott Caan

Human Target on Fox with Chi McBride, Mark Valley & Jackie Earle Haley

HUMAN TARGET: With the help of his associates, Guerrero (Jackie Earle Haley, R) and Winston (Chi McBride, L), Christopher Chance (Mark Valley, C) is a private contractor hired to protect his clients from dangerous and imminent threats in the action-drama HUMAN TARGET

-

SUPERNATURAL starring Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki

Can you tell some of the shows I’m looking forward to?  And no, sorry, I didn’t break the lists out by network!  I’m getting lazy these days!  LOL.

On Saturday the shows in the big room start with Chuck, Fringe and the day closes out with Human Target. Sunday is the big WB day, with Smallville, Supernatural and Glee.  If you’re looking for something movie related, Hall H will be the place for sure.  For example, Tron: Legacy will be at Comic-Con 2010 in Hall H!

  • White Collar

If you like even 1/2 of the shows listed below, you’re going to be getting antsy about 1/2 way through the day. Me, I pack 2 bagels, a decent sized baggie of Cheerios and water.

Here’s a Comic-Con Survival Tip from Cinema Static on Brusimm: If there’s a panel you want to go to, get there early enough to get a front section seat. If your favorite show isn’t the first panel up but is 2nd or 3rd, you can get to the room before the previous panel ends. Believe it or not, even if your favorite show is following a panel, not everyone at the previous panel will be staying for yours. I’m shocked every time 1/3 of the room empties for my panel. But that is the good news. The bad news is that there are even more people coming in or are already there waiting for the folks to leave.

Fox Network

Tis the week of orders, cancellations and series renewals!  We’ve already seen that Fox has renewed Human Target with Mark Valley; and renewed Lie to Me starring Tim Roth.  Fox has also ordered some new shows for next season.

They’ve ordered the police drama RideAlong, which is about a rogue cowboy cop and a female police chief.  The other drama they’ve ordered is based in Texas called Midland, but may eventually be called Lone Star.  Midland is about a con man in the oil industry.

Right off the bat, RideAlong smells like Castle, that stars Nathan Fillion… A non-cop paired up with a female cop.  How many episodes do you give it before they build up the sexual tension?  Sorry, I’m a biased reporter!  To see more of what comedies and such that Fox ordered, check out THR

Mark Valley stars in Human Target

"Human Target" series star Mark Valley at WonderCon 2010

Great news for all fans of Mark ValleyHuman Target is getting renewed for a 2nd season!    The Fox network order is anticipated to be 13 episodes.

This is great news.  When Human Target ended its first season, I hated the idea of the cliff hanger that it ended on.  That and I was starting to like Guerrero, played by Jackie Earle Haley!

Now the showrunners get to expound on what they started:  Exploring more of “Chance’s” past or past Chance’s!  And dig more into Christopher’s past.  It was great to see some prior emotional character building content!
