Project Arbiter Contagion at Comic Con

Michael Chance brought the team behind his Project Arbiter to Comic Con to have a bit of fun at the event.  The theme was that there was a contagion spreading about and only the man in the Project Arbiter armor could possibly help.  Scientists warned the crowd and Con visitors were scanned.  It was fun for all there was had.  Check it out below:

Comic Con Personalities

When you hit up Comic Con, obviously you can see the panels and the stars from the various TV shows and movies.  But when you cruise the floor of the convention, you come across different scheduled events where the different studios hold autograph and appearance sessions.

"Comic Con" News

My time on the floor was limited throughout the weekend (Yes, despite the several hundred images that might belie otherwise!) but I did come across a few events and even was invited into one of them…

Manu Bennet and Liam McIntyre from Spartacus

So there was an event being held on the floor for the upcoming Starz program, Spartacus: Vengeance.  I was trying to get pictures of the cast while they were posing with fans but the line seemed to explode into an uncontrolled mass of humanity.  The crowd wrangler got a little flustered when she couldn’t get folks in with the cast and asked me, since I was sort of standing in the right spot, if I wanted a pic with the cast.  Hmm… let me think about that for a moment!

If you might recall, I’ve been hovering over the indie short film, Project Arbiter, since before March of 2010.  I was introduced to the film creators work back in 2009 and that’s when Michael Chance‘s work snagged my imagination.

PROJECT ARBITER Code Red poster

Project Arbiter is a 20-minute concept film that was shot on a RED One camera system.

It takes place in 1943 during WWII and we follow an experimental O.S.S. unit whose code name is Project Arbiter while they infiltrate a mysterious villa in Poland and uncover the mysteries within that villa, and the discovery that launches a story.

It’s a movie that blends the reality of World War II with sci-fi and the creator/director wants to have folks see the film as an untold story from the war that based mostly on the potential of the reality of it.

Or, rather than me trying to spell out what I know, here’s how they put it,

{ Project Arbiter is a sci-fi espionage story that demonstrates how a small quiet victory tips the balance of power and foretells the outcome of World War II. }

Project Arbiter indie movie - Michael Chance and Vicki de Mey

Michael Chance, Vicki de Mey and Project Arbiter minifig! (ph by B. Simmons)

Project Artbiter’s creator, Michael Chance, gave Screen Rant a bit of his time to talk about his 20-minute short sci-fi / WW II film.  In the article, Michael talks about how his efforts with Project Arbiter could take him to the next level in film making.  He talks about how the story is as much of a character study as it is an action flick.

Michael has said this to me in the past and he in the interview he talks about the potential for the short to create a franchise, a trilogy.  Michael has already created different aspects that will support his project.  The inventory ranges from tee-shirts to Lego mini-figs.

This is an SoB exclusive:  First look at the never-before seen Lego based Project Arbiter Minifigs.  (And a look at a very very cool tee-shirt!)
Project Arbiter Whats My Motivation

Project Arbiter, from the mind of Michael Chance, is a story set in 1943 during WWII about an experimental O.S.S. unit that finds a prototype battle suit.  A battle suit that can render the user invisible.  It’s a 20+ minute short indie film, that in my opinion, when finished sometime in early 2011, will kick some butt when all is said and done.

In the meantime, Michael Chance & staff are doing some final touches with post-processing of Project Arbiter.  Just today they announced that they have brought Ryan Leach (Skinning, A Way with Murder, The Dark Knight, Bee Movie.  TV: Cold Case, Close to Home.) on board as the official composer for Project Arbiter.

Despite the project coming together as they work on their dialog editing, sound design, final mix and other such bits, Michael is really excited about one aspect of the movie that is more about the collectible aspect than the production:  The Project Arbiter Custom Minifig, from Amazing Armory.

Michael Chance’s Project Arbiter Could Use Your Help!  Read on and find out how YOU can help out an awesome looking project.

In case you haven’t read about the Project Arbiter indie movie here on Brusimm.com, it’s an indie film that appeases both the science fiction fan and the historical war buff and it’s almost finished with the exception of a few post-production details.  But I digress, let me tell you a bit about it:

Michael Chance - PROJECT ARBITER creator

Bringing the two genres of sci fi and war history together is what Michael Chance is doing in a sci fi espionage story that takes place in 1943.  In Project Arbiter we follow an O.S.S. unit codenamed Project Arbiter.  The team infiltrates a mysterious villa on the Polish border and they uncover a secret project.  A project that could change their own prototype battle-suit program.

Back in April 2010, I chatted for a while in my exclusive interview with Michael Chance about his indie sci fi film, Project Arbiter. In that article, I chatted about other films Michael had put together, a little bit about Michael himself, and how a mere coal miner’s mask inspired his idea for Project Arbiter. It’s here in our chat and my article that we learn that Project Arbiter is a premise that takes popular culture and gels it with historical culture.

Since then, the team of Michael Chance (Writer / Director), Vicki De Mey (Producer) and Dave Bettencourt, (Co-Producer) headed to Los Angeles and held auditions. In May, production kicked in at locations in Northern California. In one shoot, they noted that they “blasted their way through 9 pages of script in 2 days!” That was with 2 “RED One” cameras, over 40 cast and crew and some cool props like a tank, halftracks and of course, a Project Arbiter suit.

They’ve hit up the blue screen part of the project and now they’re in post-production & editing. Dave made note that the first rough cut of Mike’s film had clocked in at 24 minutes, but as of mid-August, the seventh version of the film stands at just under 20 minutes now.

Science Fiction Indie Movie Project Arbiter - Arbiter Tank

PROJECT ARBITER

Project Arbiter is the brainchild of Michael Chance and is at its core a sci fi espionage story that demonstrates how a small victory can tip the balance of power in WWII. The story takes place in 1943, about an O.S.S. unit code named Project Arbiter who infiltrates a mysterious villa on the Polish border and uncovers a secret that will change their prototype battle-suit program.

I had the opportunity to hang out with Michael for a few hours one day and just chat about things. He’s fun to hang out with and we had a lot to talk about. The following is the culmination of our 2-hour interview, where first I talk about the man behind the process and his insights and then the origins and other details of his indie filmProject Arbiter.

Project Arbiter - home page art

Project Arbiter is an indie film from Michael Chance.  I’ve seen other works by Michael Chance back in an indie movie festival in San Jose, CA back in December of 2009 called The ReasonThe Reason is a 14-minute film that makes you want more than what you’ve got.  Michael Chance is back at it enticing us with more of his work.

As the Project Arbiter website puts it about the film:

“Project Arbiter is a sci-fi espionage story that demonstrates how a small quiet victory tips the balance of power and foretells the outcome of World War II.”
