Battle Los Angeles, a movie from Columbia Pictures, is directed by Jonathan Liebesman (The Killing Room) stars Aaron Eckhart, Ramon Rodriguez, Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan and a large ensemble about a military alien invasion on Earth and Los Angeles is where we follow the actions on one military unit.
If any alien knows anything, it’s that when Michelle Rodriguez is on the scene, they’re going to have a very bad day!

Battle Los Angeles gives us multiple openings… we first find ourselves following a few military personnel in a transit chopper headed into battle as we get a glimpse of all their faces.
We then back-track 24 hours and meet a few of the officers and soldiers in quick, meant to be endearing moments, of their lives. Through this quick recap of the 24 hours, we also keep hearing the radios and TV’s reporting on the meteors headed for Earth, being predicted to land off the coast of several major cities on Earth.
Underneath it all, we have a shell-shocked Sgt Michael Nantz (Eckhart) and a green team leader in 2nd Lt. William Martinez (R. Rodriguez). Along the way, they pick up TSgt. Elena Santos (M. Rodriguez).
‘Nuff said there. I think you know where things are going to go from there knowing that.
This week, new movies opening at the box office include the acting talent of Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Virginia Madsen, Gary Oldman, Sean Bean, Val Kilmer, Christopher Walken, Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender, Jamie Bell, Imogen Poots and Judi Dench.
From aliens to werewolves from a classic tale, it promises to be an interesting weekend of new movies at the box office!

Mars Needs Moms
Includes the voice power of Seth Green, Joan Cusack and Billy Dee Williams and is about a young boy named Milo who gains a deeper appreciation for his mom after Martians come to Earth to take her away.
I always find it amazing that someone (actors) can verbally hope in an interview to be in a movie, and it makes news. And I want to work LucasFilm and win the lottery! We all have hopes, but anyone whose an actor can have some serious fun with their own hopes and watch it catch on as it weaves throughout the internet!
So when Michelle Rodriguez pipes up that even though it looked like her character died in the first movie, she’d be interested in returning to the Avatar franchise, I’m not surprised people are running with it. For her to be creating news (OK, re-news) that the sequel is headed to the ocean is just reiterating what was said nearly a year ago, but everyone is just reminding us about it.
Battle: Los Angeles, directed by Jonathan Liebesman, is a new sci-fi movie coming out on March 11, 2011. Or 031111. (That’s important later.) A new viral website has come out in support of the film.
Warning: If you’re hyper-sensitive about spoilers, it’s obvious you shouldn’t hit up this totally cool website… but it is fun.
At the site, http://battlela.com/interactivemap/, in the lower right hand corner, click on Priority Access and enter the release date, 031111, clicking on ‘submit’ will take you to http://unidentifiedenemy.com/, where you can explore some information about the invading aliens and catch all sort of interesting images that seem to be designed to catch your imagination. It does that well for me.
We’ve been hearing about Battle: Los Angeles (BLA) for a while now… from the first glimmers of media at Comic Con San Diego 2010.
Battle: Los Angeles started production in September of 2009 and is due out 3/11/11. You may have seen them filming the movie, since they’ve filmed in locations like Barksdale Air Force Base, Bossier City, Baton Rouge, Los Angeles, Ryan Airport at Baton Rouge, San Pedro CA, & Shreveport.
Stars in the flick include Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan, Aaron Eckhart, Joey King, Michael Peña & many more. Aaron Eckhart plays a marine squad leader and Michelle Rodriguez an Air Force tech sergeant.
Battle: Los Angeles was written by Chris Bertolini (The General’s Daughter) & directed by Jonathan Liebesman (The Killing Room, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning).
This week we have The American with George Clooney, opening on Wednesday, Sept 1st and then Robert Rodriguez’sMachete and Going the Distance will follow up, opening on Friday, Sept 3rd. But first, here’s a quick box office report from last weekend.
Last Weekend’s (8-27) Box Office Performers
Eli Roth’sThe Last Exorcism took the top cash drawer for the weekend, pulling in $21M in over 2800 theaters.
Takers took the 2nd spot with a 2200 theater weekend, and The Expendables hung on to the 3rd spot, bringing in $9.5M in 3398 theaters.
Technically, though Takers was 2nd in totals, it averaged more per theater ($9519) than the other movies. In my book, that made it the better performer!
The re-release of Avatar netted it another $4M in their coffers, making that off of a 812 theater showing.

Opening Movies for “Friday”
The American will be opening Wednesday, September 1st in theaters. It stars George Clooney & Irina Björklund. George plays an assassin who is hiding out in Italy for one last assignment.
It directed by Anton Corbin (Control) and the screenplay is written by Rowan Joffe (28 Weeks Later).
The director makes me nervous but Joffe has a nice movie under his belt. Add that to Clooney in the mix and this could be a good time at the theater.
It seems to be cutting it pretty close, but Robert Rodriguez tweeted yesterday (8/10/10) that filming has wrapped on his latest movie, Machete.
Despite being known for how quick Rodriguez can crank out a movie, this one took over a year to wrap up. The Twentieth Century Fox film is due out September 3rd in the U.S. and was directed by Ethan Maniquis & Robert Rodriguez (Who co-wrote and produced the movie) and stars (In no particular order listed here:)
Comic Con 2010 can be quite the visual overload for some and yet, the eye candy (In this case, movie eye candy) can be a very surreal and fun experience to find yourself surrounded by the viral advertising from movies and shows you may be looking forward to or watch.
As soon as you hit up the convention area in downtown San Diego, you can see that the Gaslamp District had it’s makeover for the weekend event. In these sets of pics, we’re taking a peek at virals for the Syfy Channel’s shows, Battle: Los Angeles, Resident Evil: Afterlife & Piranha 3D.
The Hard Rock Hotel & Cafe is everyone’s favorite place to give their viral makeovers to… that and the huge sides of huge hotels in the downtown area. But more on those in another post!

This was the first thing I saw when I hit up the San Diego Convention Center for Comic Con 2010. My first look was “Huh?” But it’s related to the upcoming movie, Battle: Los Angeles.
Machete, from Robert Rodriguez is loaded with some classic favorite actors who are ripe for some classic drug lord violence!
The movie spawned from a fake trailer that was shown during Grindhouse. and it seems that it caught on. Rodriguez says that the origins of Machete go way back, to 1995′s Desperado. (That’s where Danny Trejo played a knife wielding assassin! Not the most perfect film, but I really enjoyed a lot of popcorn with it and introduced me to Antonio Banderas.)
The Machete movie summary goes as follows: “After being betrayed by the organization who hired him, an ex-Federale launches a brutal rampage of revenge against his former boss.”
