Falling Skies on TNT, from Steven Spielberg, has come and gone.  But in its passing, it definitely left a mark on the TV ratings game.

TNT called the series the “#1 new basic cable series in the United States” as it’s first season finale episode pulled in 5.6 million viewers.  It also premiered to some pretty decent numbers, at around 5.9M viewers.  Viewers were a curious lot about the show, that’s for sure.

The series stars Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Will Patton, Drew Roy, Maxim Knight, Connor Jessup, Colin Cunningham, Sarah Sanguin Carter, Seychelle Gabriel, Mpho Koaho and Peter Shinkoda.

Falling Skies takes place in the chaotic aftermath of an alien attack that has left most of the world completely incapacitated. Tom Mason (Wyle), a Boston history professor and the father of three sons, must put his extensive knowledge of military history to the test as second in command of a regiment of resistance fighters protecting a large group of civilian survivors.”

With the premiere of Falling Skies on TNT, I have to say that the huge build up, even with the last 60-second countdown to the 2-hour premiere, was a pretty impressive marketing campaign.  But did it pay off?  I think it might have.

I found the 2-hour premiere of Falling Skies a very low-keyed episode that developed the premise of the fact that there was an alien invasion several months ago and that we’re following the rag-tag group of surviving humans as they try to figure out how to defeat the aliens while running from them. If it sounds familiar, well, I’d say it was like Battlestar Galactica… the walking version. I’m hoping it will develop into something as near as good too.

Falling Skies is produced by DreamWorks Television for TNT. It stars Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, the venerable Will Patton and Colin Cunningham amongst other great cast.

The show didn’t suck. That’s for sure, but it felt flat to me. I’m not sure why it did, it just did. I liked the multi-legged aliens but the CGI mechanized two-legged machines, though not bad, was far from perfect.

There was one very interesting clue though that they mentioned in the premiere and that was that if the aliens are six-legged, why did they create two-legged machines?

Falling Skies, starring Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Drew Roy and more star in this new sci fi alien invasion series. It’s not about the invasion, it’s about the people and what they do, six months after the aliens show up.

Falling Skies is from DreamWorks Television and executive producer Steven Spielberg.

FALLING SKIES... Noah Wyle

“Noah Wyle (ER, TNT’s The Librarian movies) stars as a former college professor who becomes the leader of a group of soldiers and civilians struggling against an occupying alien force. Moon Bloodgood (Terminator Salvation) co-stars as Anne Glass, a therapist who works with the surviving children to help them cope with the traumatic situation. The series also stars Drew Roy (Lincoln Heights) as Hal and Maxim Knight (Brothers & Sisters) as Matt, Tom’s two sons; and Seychelle Gabriel (Weeds) as Lourdes, an orphaned teenager who helps run the group’s commissary. TRANSFORMERS 3 - Chicago Set Destruction

Transformers 3 has been a bit of a mystery as far as any detailed content about the plot.  All I know right now is that all the filming that is going on over in Chicago is for the back half of the movie, as the plot nears the end and the big fight between good and evil takes place.  Then again, we do have a bit of detail about Alan Tudyk‘s role in the movie that came from what looks like a fresh new online site called From Hollywood With Love as they nabbed themselves an exclusive interview with Alan Tudyk and in that interview Mira chatted with Alan about his roles in Beautiful Boy and Transformers 3.

In Beautiful Boy, Tudyk calls it a quiet drama that goes to harrowing places. (The guys will be jealous here:) Tudyk plays the husband to the character played by Moon Bloodgood.  Check out what I’ve written about Alan in Alan Tudyk Movie Update, Beautiful Boy.

Alan Tudyk as Alpha on Dollhouse

Alan Tudyk as Alpha on Dollhouse

Alan Tudyk last week just wrapped up an Indie project he was in, called Beautiful Boy.

Beautiful Boy comes from the production company of Maria Bello and Michael Sheen, script writers Ku and Michael Armbruster and produced by Lee Clay and Eric Gozlan.

It’s about a couple that was on the verge of separation when their son goes on a shooting spree in a college, then shoots himself.  It seems rather edgy… then again, Tudyk’s in it.

Alan Tudyk also starred alongside Moon Bloodgood, Kyle Gallner, Austin Nichols and Meat Loaf.
