Starting today (February 2nd, 2012), Lionsgate is engaging The Hunger Games fans in yet another fashion to catch your attention, adding to the wonderful viral campaign they’ve had going so far.
Lionsgate has 50 different websites (IE, 50 days until it opens in theaters) giving away tickets to see The Hunger Games, for free. That’s because today, there are only 50 days to go until the movie hits your local movie theater!
All you have to do is hit up Twitter and search for #HungerGames50 and find the websites that are participating in the free ticket give-away to the World Premiere of The Hunger Games.
Lionsgate also announced that they will have an exclusive, one week engagement with IMAX screenings, starting on its theatrical release date of March 23, 2012.
Movie News: The Hunger Games book series adaptation will be opening in movie theaters on March 23, 2012. The excitement, or mayhaps it should be called anticipation for the movie by fans of the book series is at a serious all-time high and building with each passing day.
In the meantime, Lionsgate has been having fun with fans and teasing us with some great viral material and now, with what is purported to be the latest movie poster for The Hunger Games.
Viral: But first up, check out the great viral messages from the president of Panem. This one came out late December:
This week, the celebrities showing up in new movies this week include Gina Carano, Channing Tatum, Bryan Cranston, Cuba Gooding Jr., the leather clad Kate Beckinsale, Tom Hanks, Gerard Butler, Ralph Fiennes & Christian Bale! Plus, with the Sundance Film Festival getting in full swing, there’s a bunch of indie movies being presented to the alternative and mainstream press this week.
And from looking over the list of new movies this week, it’s going to be tough to pick one to catch this week! (Remember, enough of you can chime in at the comments, saying which movie you want me to go see… you can end up sending me to one of these movies this Friday… be nice!) Dont’ forget, I also update some select movie titles production status down below this section…
Check it out and see what new movies are coming out on Friday, January 20th, 2012:
=
• Haywire
Haywire stars Gina Carano, Michael Angarano, Channing Tatum, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Ewan McGregor and Michael Fassbender grace the screen during this movie. That’s an incredible collective of celebrity power!
This action movie is directed by Steven Soderbergh (Contagion, Solitary Man, The Informant!) and written by Lem Dobbs (The Score, Dark City).
It’s about a black ops secret agent who has been betrayed… and it’s time to fix things. (Kind of like Bourne, but a female version of him! I could love this movie.)
Looking at the preview trailer, they show her doing a lot of leg work to kick butt, which seems fairly realistic.
This looks fun… did you catch Bill Paxton in there?
=
• Red Tails
Red Tails stars (the soon to be venerable) Bryan Cranston, Daniela Ruah, Joshua Dallas, Cuba Gooding Jr., and more in a movie during the WW II era, about a group of African American pilots in the Tuskegee training program being called to duty under the guidance of Col. A.J. Bullard.
It’s directed by Anthony Hemingway (Treme, CSI: NY)…
If anything, this is an awesome era to have a top-notch production company put together a WW II aerial battle movie. What I see here looks awesome visually!
The following are some Cinema Static thoughts or opinions on The Avengers; the early sales of The Dark Knight Rises movie tickets and and taking 21 Jump Street down the comedic route… what???
Read on gang, see what I have to say… =
The Avengers
If you have not heard, it seems like The Avengers movie is going to be presented to the movie-goer from the perspective of Steve Rogers, aka, Captain America.
Which might make sense, since in the comics, Captain America led the Avengers.
It will be interesting as Joss Whedon has brought ensembles to the fans before and how he’s choosing to bring the narrative to the movie-goer now.
I’m looking forward to The Avengers.

The Dark Knight Rises
Did you know that some screenings of The Dark Knight Rises have already sold out? Yep… the movie doesn’t come out until July, but Fandango has been selling tickets to the movie already. This has culminated in the sell-outs of midnight screenings of The Dark Knight Rises in New York and Los Angeles.
The other day all the other websites were agog with reports of a new images being released over the last week from the studio for The Hunger Games. I was pretty excited until I saw it… and I’m not sure what punch everyone is partaking in!
Check it out… here’s the “new” image of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss in The Hunger Games:
The new movies coming out this week include Val Kilmer, Ray Liotta, Gina Gershon, Ron Eldard, Dennis Quaid and Aimee Teegarden!

Wednesday, January 4th:
This Wednesday, Breathless, starring Val Kilmer, Ray Liotta and Gina Gershon comes out. It’s directed and co-written by Jesse Baget (White Knight).
It’s categorized as a thriller, but the production company calls it a dark comedy.
Breathless is a dark and violent story that follows Lorna (Gershon) a strong-willed Texas woman who’s had enough of her untrustworthy husband Dale’s (Kilmer) criminal acts and lack of husbandry and looks up an old friend to help figure out what to do about this.

Dean Cain & William Katt are starring a smaller, new movie called Sweetwater, which is brought to us by director/producer/editor Brian Skiba.

Friday, January 6th:
The new movies opening in movie theaters on Friday include
• The Devil Inside
The Devil Inside is directed and co-written by William Brent Bell (2006′s Stay Alive). It includes a relatively unknown cast (to me), but includes Fernanda Andrade, Simon Quarterman, Evan Helmuth, Ionut Grama & Suzan Crowley.
The Prometheusmovie trailer has finally arrived, after all the preview hoopla about the movie trailer!
Ah, but first, a bit about the new movie:
Prometheus is the prequel to the Ridely ScottAlien movie trilogy.
“A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.”
Scott lobbied hard to declare this movie to not be a prequel to the Alien movie franchise, but a movie that takes place in the same universe, and explains the origins of the acid-bleeding alien.
The movie stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green, & Charlize Theron.

Over the last few days, press releases were coming out announcing preview trailers for the movie trailer for Prometheus.
Yes… we now have teaser trailers for movie trailers! We’re starting to have ads for the ads, but hey, for some, that’s pretty exciting. For others, well, they’re pretty patient and can wait. And for others, there are those that somehow know they want to see the movie, but don’t want to have anything from the movie ruined for them.
Presented without comment, the 2nd movie trailer for The Dark Knight Rises & a preview clip for the upcoming Prometheus trailer: (Yep, a teaser preview of an upcoming preview clip.)
The Dark Knight Rises
OK, one comment… Is Bane going to not be very understandable through the entire movie? That can be very annoying, and I’ve seen the complaints about the 6-minute prologue and Bane’s voice. (I’m thinking the prologue and this clip was a good market test of the voice!)
The 2nd movie trailer for Battleship actually seems interesting and makes this a bit more personal than giant pegs in the side of my Battleship!
With the dearth of remakes over the last few years, someone started working on the idea of possibly making movies that are loosely based around boardgames. When I first heard about a small swarm of movies based off of boardgames, I started wondering if remakes weren’t all that bad.
As far as I’m concerned, Battleship, starring Taylor Kitsch, could be a huge popcorn hit. The only thing that will hold it back is if the franchise of the boardgame doesn’t have quite the following like the Transformers franchise does. And you get to see Kitsch with a haircut finally!!!
Late last week, Walt Disney Pictures let out their first official movie trailer of their adaptation of the Edgar Rice Burroughs penned series, “John Carter of Mars,” titled John Carter.
John Carter stars Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) as the titled character himself, with Lynn Collins (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Bryan Cranston, Mark Strong, Ciarán Hinds, Dominic West, & Willem Dafoe leading a large cast of aliens.
John Carter is directed by Andrew Stanton, off a screenplay he co-wrote with Mark Andrews and Michael Chabon.
Stanton’s resume include producing and writing and if there’s any directorial experience, I missed it. On the bright side (I guess) his writing credits include the Toy Story movie franchise, WALL-E, Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc.. All family fare, animated films. He was an executive producer for the animated films Up and Ratatouille.
