Cinematic Titanic, from the creators of MST3K

In this newest chapter of Cinematic Titanic destruction, they’ve chosen the 1968 movie, War of the Insects to riff on, live.  (War of the Insects AKA, Genocide.  On IMDb, it got a 4 rating.  That IS bad!  Wow!)  This live performance was shot in front of a live audience at Pepito’s Parkway Theater in Minneapolis, MN.  And this is my DVD review, from Cinema Static on Brusimm.com.

As the Cinematic Titanic DVD starts, we see the introduction of the riffing squad to the theater audience: Trace Beaulieu, J. Elvis Weinstein, Mary Jo Pehl, Frank Conniff & Joel Hodgson.  (Yes, the old MST3K gang!)

Cinematic Titanic, Live, and the countdown and theme commenced… to Genocide…  mental genocide that is!

Cinematic Titanic War of the InsectsThe bugs shall inherit the earth!

Or so says Annabelle, the hottest, the sexiest, and by far the craziest psycho blonde chick to hit Japan since WWII. Deeply embittered about the whole man’s-inhumanity-to-man thing, she enacts a diabolical plot to unleash a swarm of mutant insects on the world that will destroy all living creatures except creepy crawlers.

Ensnared in all this madness is a philandering island-hopping bug collector and his compliant and slightly pregnant wife, a humorless doctor from the mainland, and a United States airman named Charlie, whose way of starting a conversation is to hysterically scream “Genocide!” and then go off his rocker like the dedicated military professional he is.

If you want to watch a story where everybody gets their nuclear holocaust on in the grand tradition of radioactive Japanese monster movies, this is the film for you!

The movie opens to a rising cloud from an atomic bomb explosion and the gang chimes in:  {Michele Bachmann’s first day as president.}  That got a big laugh from the audience.

A scene that’s showing the bottom of a surf pounded cliff, {As you can see, anywhere you want to jump will do the trick.}

New Movies & TV Shows on DVD and Blu-ray

-New DVD and Blu-ray releases coming out this week on September 13th include adventures in a galaxy far, far away (Star Wars) on Blu-ray; Asgardian gods with Chris Hemsworth as Thor; and a few TV shows hitting the new DVD release list like the most excellent Starz TV series Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, Glee, Supernatural, Grey’s Anatomy and a bunch more of TV shows!

(R.I.P. Andy Whitfield; 1974-2011)

Plus I had just received some news a the entire Farscape series coming to Blu-ray.  No, Farscape is not coming out this week, but at a later date.  But I thought it’s cool news for fans of the series I thought I’d share!

Other Blu-ray news includes the entire Star Wars saga… well, at least what movies have been released to date, has come out in a whopping big Blu-ray release, due out September 16th.  I have press release details for that down at the bottom of this article, if you need to weigh out your options and are considering picking up this new packaging product, you can check out those details below.

There are a lot of first time to Blu-ray [Blu-ray] movie titles vs. new movies just hitting the market.

With that said, let’s see what’s coming out this week and you can set and plot what you might be interested in either ordering online or heading out to pick up from your local retail store:

    A Pragmatic Opinion

When Michael Bay was filming Transformers 2, he was significantly hampered by the writer’s strike, yet he forged forward to meet his release deadlines, pulling the project together during a time when this strike was destroying other movies and getting decent quality TV series canceled along the way.

But when Transformers 2 came out, despite doing very well at the box office, literary giants were aiming their high-brow movie-review flame throwers at the project and roasting it alive.   (I might have snookered something in there myself at first too, so I was part of the blame game.)

Sure, there were issues and there were huge logistical gaps between scenes. Folks decided they had enough time to dwell on and be offended by the twins. I get it. But Michael Bay achieved something else with Transformers 2… he made a fascinatingly funny-ass movie that had a huge amount of robot action that, once you get past the literary stumblings of the film, you just might find pretty damn funny, and that’s that.

Mid last year HBO started playing Transformers 2 and then it went to their On Demand section. When I was in the mood to watch TV, but nothing was on, I kept tuning in this movie. If for anything, a sound gap to have on in the background. That’s when the brainwashing started and I started noticing things, like how if you quit bitching about the gaps and craps, it’s a fun movie. Period. Seriously, when the Decepticon super-model attacks Sam, Shia LaBeouf lets out probably one of the best on-film girlie screams I’ve ever seen/heard, from any gender.
