As we all know, Joss Whedon found time to make another small, independent flick called Much Ado About Nothing.  When I first posted the press release for the movie, all we knew that he found some bit of time to make a movie while directing The Avengers.  Seriously?

Yep…

Joss Whedon's MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING

What Joss Whedon did do was that when filming for The Avengers wrapped, instead of taking a vacation with his wife, his wife gave him permission to go off and film this movie, Much Ado About Nothing, which apparently, is something he’s been wanting to do for a very long time.  Years to be exact.

And as we all know, when a hubby is given permission to do something we want to do, well, we don’t think twice, and bolt out the door like there’s no tomorrow!

So Joss gathered a few Whedonverse alumni and a few other actors and shot his self-funded movie at his Santa Monica, CA home.  He filmed it in 12 days and on black & white.

The film was shot under the banner of Bellwether Pictures, a small independent studio that Joss and his wife formed for the purpose of creating self made, small movies.

His plan is to have it ready for the various film festivals in 2012.

-

Filming wrapped on Sunday and then a few of the cast had Tweeted about it.  Then another site, three hours later, claimed an exclusive and announced the film too, but with no more information than the simple tweets had pointed out.  Eh, a few hours later an official press release showed up (by clicking on the orange glass) on the site.

Joss Whedon's MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING

Joss Whedon has been shooting a movie called Much Ado About Nothing.  It was shot in black and white and done in only 12 days, on location in Santa Monica. With his new production company, called Bellwether Pictures, which is focused on the production of small, independent narratives for all media, embracing a DYI ethos.  (Thank you Dr. Horrible!)

We all know that Joss Whedon has been working on The Avengers, a movie many a fan can’t wait to see.  We also know that when he sets his mind to keeping something under wraps, he can do that too.  (Case in point… the plot to The Cabin in the Woods.  I have seen the behind-the-scenes outline, and I think Whedon fans will love this!)

But while he’s been working feverishly on The Avengers, at least I presume, that’s where all his time has been spent.  But now it seems that he’s been lurking about with something else in his back pocket.

A movie called Much Ado About Nothing.  It was shot in black and white and done in only 12 days, on location in Santa Monica.

The website for the film says it’s a film by Joss Whedon, based on a play.  LOL…

Brusimm Cinema Static TV NewsWith October, comes Halloween 2011.  And with Halloween, comes the ghostly movie collection on TV that we can all enjoy filled with fright, fret and fears, especially from Syfy, AMC and TMC. [Updated 10-13-11 with programming from FEARnet]

Of course, a lot of TV shows will have Halloween themed episodes.  I’ll leave the descriptors of that mess to other places.  But a few networks are having their annual bit of fun with the holiday.

I’ve listed a few things, but I ended up focusing on the Syfy channel, AMC‘s annual Fear Fest and Turner Classic Movies (TCM).  And in the listing are some good movies… well, movies I have been known to enjoy, like Lake Placid and the all-time sci-fi classic, Forbidden Planet.  And if you look carefully, we even have some Nathan Fillion, some Godzilla, and other fun or “fun” movies!

-

ABC Family will have their 13 Nights of Halloween and you can catch such movies as Beetlejuice, Van Helsing, The Addams Family, Casper and more.  Alongside the movies will be premieres of Coraline (Oct. 23, 8pm ET/PT) and the network premiere of Bewitched (Oct. 24, 6:30pm ET/PT). (ABC Press)

-

The Hallmark channel will be having a ten-hour Munster marathon on Halloween.  On Oct. 29 at 9pm ET/PT. Catherine Bell return’s in the fourth The Good Witch’s Family movie installment.  Bell plays Cassandra “Cassie” Nightingale. As Cassie is trying to settle into her new marriage, a long-lost cousin shows up and she brings some evil with her.  (As it looks right now, Catherine Bell is also set for a fifth movie of the Good Witch movie franchise, set for next year) (THC Press)

-

But alas, let’s check out what Syfy, AMC and TCM have in store for us!

Now admittedly, I was only going to focus on AMC, and such, the other two networks lose out on this list where they started airing movies starting October 1st.  With that said, oh well!  Sorry gang!

Syfy Channel

Syfy channel LogoAs anyone can probably attest to, the Syfy channel has started their 31 Days of Halloween scheduling, as they fill the month of October up with nightly frightful movies.

Ghost Hunters Halloween Live – Syfy, Oct. 31 at 7pm ET, Live. The TAPS team has its annual live, six-hour investigation.  This year they’ll be at the Pennhurst Asylum in Pennsylvania, which is an hour outside of Philly.  The regular cast will be on hand, as well as some from Ghost Hunters International.

On Saturday, October 29th, Syfy will be airing the movie called Zombie Apocalypse.  In this movie starring  Ving Rhames, (Stop me if this sounds familiar… LOL), a zombie plague has wiped out 90% of the American population and a small group of survivors struggle across the country to get to a rumored refuge from this plague, located on the island of Catalina.

Grace Park in 'Hawaii Five-0' season 2

Ah, finally, Hawaii Five-0, starring Alex O’Loughlin has returned for it’s second season and the season premiere of Hawaii Five-0 had much along the entertainment value.  But it also had moments of EP.  That’s extreme predictability.  But I’m not sure that the EP was avoidable in the Hawaii Five-0 episode titled “Ha’i'ole.”

The season premiere of Hawaii Five-0, pulled in just under 12 million viewers.  It didn’t beat it’s competitor on ABC, Castle, but it beat everything else.  Being beat by Nathan Fillion in Castle is acceptable to this website!

Moderate to Serious H50 Spoilers Ahead

Alex O'Loughlin in 'Hawaii Five-0'

As we all know/recall, the Governor is dead.  Duplicitous in multiple layers of criminal behavior, the ilk of the criminal way caught up to her.  But then Steve McGarrett was implicated in her murder.

I thought it was going to be a far stretch of connected story lines to get McGarrett out of this predicament, but through a few leaps of story-line faith, it actually happened!

This is another book review from brusimm.com, for a novel from PJ Haarsma, titled “The Softwire: Virus on Orbis 1.”  Read on to find out how I ended up selecting this book, thanks to Nathan Fillion, to read and why I liked it so much.

'The Softwire Virus on Orbis 1' - Theylor, a Keeper

It’s funny how I encountered and ended up reading “The Softwire: Virus on Orbis 1” and being motivated to do this book review.  Going on blind faith on a recommendation, I found the book a surprisingly fun read.  It was recommended by Nathan Fillion (Firefly and Castle) as just that, a great story written by a close friend of his. So I went out and grabbed the book, put it in my Kindle and away I went.  Dang, I wish I had started it sooner!

=

The official teaser synopsis reads as follows:

When the children on the seed ship, Renaissance, are orphaned in outer space, thirteen-year-old JT and his sister Ketheria are forced to work as knudniks on the Rings of Orbis. Instead of beginning the new and better life he had hoped for, JT and his sister spend their days sifting through trash for their new Guarantor.

But JT soon discovers that he is the first human Softwire – he has a special gift that allows him to enter any computer with his mind. And when the central computer on Orbis mysteriously malfunctions, the Citizens point their fingers at the newcomers, especially the Softwire.

~ § § §

For me, the story is about a boys journey to another planet.  Earth is now entirely covered in clouds and a seed ship with humans is headed from Earth to Orbis.  A tragic accident takes place on the ship that kills all the adults in suspended animation and the AI on board decides to birth the stored embryos on board.  The children, under the guidance of the computer, are raised during this journey and we the reader, come on board the story just prior to their ship docking with the Orbis space station.  It’s here that we first meet JT (Johnny Turnbull), as he and all the children on the ship are all wondering what life will be like at their new home.  But they have no idea what’s in store for them or why they’re really going to Orbis.

Joss Whedon/The Avengers Movie News:

Despite the fervent desire of all to see Ant-Man in the Joss Whedon directed Marvel movie, The Avengers, Joss keeps needing to reiterate that there will be no Ant-Man in the movie.

Photobucket

In fact one of the quotes to date says

“You know, I’m really not allowed to say what happens in the movie, but I can say that it’s not true. Ant-Man is NOT in the movie.”

-

As we all know, there was much-to-do about nothing concerning both Hank Pym, who, via his utilities, could become either Ant-Man, Giant-Man, Goliath, etc., etc.  The character has more identity issues than this site!

But Ant-Man had more than one person behind the guise.  Aside from Hank Pym, Scott Lang and Eric O’Grady also donned the mantle of Ant-Man through the years.

If we take Whedon at his word, then this is a moot point.  But if we think about the history of Ant-Man, there might be two possibilities, if they are thinking about sneaking in Ant-Man into the movie… as either some future-flash look in closing credits or possibly a super-quick cameo by the character, aka, Dr. Hank Pym, in a scene.  Or heck even a quick appearance of O’Grady.  O’Grady was a SHIELD agent who found the suit in storage at SHIELD headquarters.

"Comic Con" News logo

The last schedule released by Comic Con for the 2011 San Diego Comic Con came out, focusing on Sunday, July 24th.

Looking over the schedule, there’s a Browncoats panel, a focus panel with Nathan Fillion, Supernatural, Doctor Who, Sons of Anarchy, and Merlin are on the schedule for Sunday, the 24th of July.

But what I’m wondering about is Ballroom 20?  What’s up with that?

Below, I break down Hall H and then other selected events that are taking place on Sunday at the 2011 San Diego Comic Con event.  These events are picked from the entire schedule that was put out.  There will probably be changes and such so you need to head on over to the website to see all the details or updates!

-

Ballroom 20

Ballroom 20 is oddly not on the schedule for Sunday.  I find it interesting, considering there are some big-name projects not on the schedule and Ballroom 20 is absent from Sunday.  Hmm

I’m amazed I got this out, even if it is a day later than usual!  I spent the weekend covering the NASCAR event at Sonoma as a press photographer and found myself pretty busy with that.  I had a great time and even got a hot-lap around the track from a professional driver.  (I now know how all my passengers feel!  Gads, my apologies to everyone!)
