Movies & TV Shows New on DVD and Blu-ray

There are over 100 new DVD & Blu-ray releases coming out this week but there are only a few big titles are hitting the market that might interest you.  Celebrities you’ll see on the new DVD and Blu-ray discs include Hugh Jackman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Katie Featherston, Claude Rains, Woody Allen and more.

There seem to be quite a few first-time to Blu-ray titles, including a few Woody Allen movies:

Check out some of the new DVD & Blu-ray releases coming out this week, on Tuesday,  January 24th, 2012:

-

Real Steel

Starring Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lilly and Dakota Goyo

Real Steel on DVD

This movie surprised me as it was more than just a fighting robot movie (CS’s movie review)  If you were on the fence about this, I don’t think you’d go wrong renting or buying this movie.  It was a fun movie with pretty awesome CGI.

On Amazon:  Real Steel

-

50/50

Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen

50/50 on Blu-ray

A movie about a man struggling to beat his cancer diagnosis, the IMDb score for this movie is at 8.0 and it has made $35M at the domestic box office.  I haven’t seen the movie but it sounds like it would be an incredible rental and you probably wouldn’t be wasting your money on the DVD or Blu-ray

On Amazon:  50/50

If you’re wondering what new movies might be playing in your local movie theater during the holidays, particularly what movies are playing during the Christmas week, look no further, because I’ve done the research for you!

In this article I am putting together what new movies are coming out during the Christmas holidays, but I’m also recapping what big-time movies have come out prior to the holiday movie season week, just in case they might still be actually playing in your movie theater when Christmas lands in all our laps.

Plus, included in this list are the more popular new DVD releases are also coming out, just in case you want to plan your holidays around the fireplace with the family instead of the screaming hordes of movie goers. (Times & dates subject to change since this article was posted.)

-

First up, What Is Coming Out On Christmas Week:

On Wed December 21st 2011:  We have The Adventures of Tintin from Steven Spielberg and starring Daniel Craig.  Behind this release, is the next mission, if you decide to see it, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol: with Tom Cruise returning to his role of Ethan Hunt.  (If you look at the list below, MI comes out a few weeks earlier on IMAX.  Another film that seems to be anticipated, if you believe the marketing, is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo , with Daniel Craig starring.  This is an interesting not because it seems that actor Daniel Craig has two movies coming out on the same day!

On Thursday, December 22nd: A film called The Arrested Development Documentary Project is hitting theaters, which is about the TV show by the same name.

On Friday, Dec 23rd: We Bought a Zoo, starring Scarlett Johansson & Matt Damon is slated to be released.  (Though news is hitting the street this might have already had an early release.)

On Sunday, December 25th, 2011; Christmas Day!
