First up, some box office noise:
BATTLESHIP Almost Takes The Weekend Box Office, NOT!
I think some of the headlines referencing this last weekend are bit harsh or overplayed about the box office this weekend. They seem to claim a failure at the box office for Battleship‘s domestic opening weekend. But, if it weren’t the the super-huge Joss Whedon mega-hot, The Avengers, it looks like Battleship might have won the weekend in the box office. But The Avengers took in another $55M this weekend, remaining in the top spot at the box.
Battleship was number 2, pulling in just over $25M and The Dictator dictated into third in the charts with a $17M take. Dark Shadows ($12.8M) and What to Expect When You’re Expecting ($10.5M) rounded out the top-5 spots at the box office.
The Hunger Games is holding on to a spot in the charts at seventh, having pulled in $3M this weekend, adding to it’s worldwide gross, bringing it to $392M.
Movie, Weekend, (Total)
The Avengers $55.1M ($457M)
Battleship $25.4M ($25.4M)
The Dictator $17.4M ($24.5M)
Dark Shadows $12.8M ($50.9M)
What to Expect When You’re Expecting $10.5M ($10.5M)
People are trying to over-analyze why Battleship didn’t do so good, declaring lack of interest by teens. I’m thinking a Marvel(ous) movie might have taken most of their business away! But that’s just me.
