Here’s a few trailers for movies I’m interested in going to the theater to see this summer.
One is my management role model character himself, Riddick, and a genre subject that was true to my young heart in its day, giant monsters, kaiju, in Pacific Rim. Both are pure popcorn fun movies. Riddick will be a 2D event for me, while Pacific Rim is a movie with enough CGI for me to consider dropping a penny on a 3D screening.
Check out the trailers below:
Director: David Twohy
Writer: David Twohy
Studio: Universal Pictures
Cast: Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, Jordi Molla, Katee Sackhoff
Release: September 6, 2013
“Left for dead on a sun-scorched planet, Riddick finds himself up against an alien race of predators. Activating an emergency beacon alerts two ships: one carrying a new breed of mercenary, the other captained by a man from Riddick’s past.”
The latest trailer for Pacific Rim came out today, and this trailer, more than any other trailer I’ve seen, stopped teasing and started explaining the story behind the movie of giant robots fighting giant monsters, known as Kaiju.
The latest trailer finally gets us some in-depth description of the background, the motivations of the monsters, how the humans saw the problem and how they’re dealing with it. This is much more welcomed details than just the fact that the kaiju started spilling out of a crack in the ocean!
In this newest trailer, we get a great look at the action with a more detailed look at the humans in the Jaegers (Giant robots) going toe-to-claw with the Kaiju, rather than those early, quick snippet looks.
And for anyone who might be a Godzilla fan, whose craving some giant monster action, this movie from writer/director Guillermo del Toro looks like it will fill the bill. (NO… Godzilla is not in this movie. Our favorite kaiju, Godzilla has his own new movie coming out soon!)
But will the movie fill enough of any genre movie fan’s bill? The box office will tell that tale when it comes out on July 12th, 2013.
A newish movie trailer for Guillermo del Toro‘s Pacific Rim popped up in the most interesting of places. At the Consumer Electronics Show taking place in Las Vegas, NV. Yes, CES. But then again, that’s what marketing is all about, reaching out to new and innovative resources. And this new advertising venue gave the movie [...]
The first movie trailer for Pacific Rim came out today and there were a few discussion points I wanted to highlight… so I thought I’d do it with stills from the movie trailer… At first, we see the corpse we were teased with in the viral news video, ~ ~ ~ In this still, there’s [...]
Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim has officially gone from viral to full, official movie trailer mode this afternoon. And it seems to hit on all cylinders as far as what one might hope for a non-Godzilla kind of Kaiju movie. In Pacific Rim, giant monsters start crawling out of the oceans and mankind pulls together [...]
Without further adieu, Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim viral goodies: Kaiju Emergency Alert System! – In Pacific Rim, humans are forced to defend against giant monsters in their world… and they do it with giant robots called Jaegers. Today’s collective includes an Iron Man 3 promo image, A Pacific Rim image, somethin’ about Thanos, Paranormal Activity 4 clips, Hugh Jackman all ripped (image), and a sad bit on a production set accident. – If you had not seen it yet, some promo art came out for Iron Man 3 showing the new Extremis [...]
Apparently Warner Bros. thinks that the numbers that The Avengers saw from the slew of 3D and IMAX screenings warranted the premise of post-processing Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim to 3D… despite Guillermo del Toro not wanting this done. As I pointed out in a previous entry about 3D and IMAX ticket prices, 3D screenings [...]
Godzilla and Pacific Rim movie news: Comic-Con has come and gone. Some of my “peers” went for it and did the annual “get no sleep for 5 days” thing. But out of “The Con” came some news from two movies that I’m curious or interested in… and that’s the Godzilla reboot movie and Pacific Rim. [...]
Below are a few highlights from the Iron Man 3 panel from Comic-Con… One of the biggest mysteries that have been denied ever since it was rumored, is that Ben Kingsley IS playing the Mandarin in Iron Man 3. This is a stand-alone, Iron Man only movie. We won’t be catching any other bits outside [...]
For all the giant monster and robot movie fans out there, there was a bit of info from Guillermo del Toro on his upcoming movie, Pacific Rim. In this latest bit on Pacific Rim, the talk is on the motivation of humanity and why we’d care that giant monsters are coming out to destroy our [...]

Despite the lack of much movie news, I’ve been quietly and patiently waiting for any update on Guillermo del Toro‘s giant monster (Kaiju) movie, Pacific Rim. I am a very patient person. Today I saw news that Lionsgate has released the official synopsis of the movie… let’s check it out: “From acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo [...]
