On April 6th, the website ComicBookMovie reported that the Planet of the Apes prequel Rise of the Apes was given a new name by 20th Century Fox. Then the website /Film saw the news that same day and via their contacts with the studio, confirmed that indeed, Rise of the Apes is now titled Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
There, I hope they’re done. This is what, their fourth name for the movie? The evolution of the name of the movie has looked like this:
The above list of titles looks like a great evolutionary chart, where the subsequent title in the list incorporates much of the previous title.
Guesses are that the marketing department thought that the title had to reflect the franchises ongoing or related progression and retain the core of the franchises name. Me, I’m thinking they could have taken the daring route and stuck with one of the cooler new movie titles. But what do I know? (You really don’t have to answer that.)

It was inevitable, but a prequel to the Planet of the Apes is in the works and is tentatively scheduled for a June 2011 opening date. But hey, did any Cinema Static readers get the chance to take advantage of audition info for the movie back in early June? Hope so!
The prequel is an origins plot and has a working title called Rise of the Apes and it starts out in present day San Francisco as a precautionary tale about genetic engineering with apes. Great! Might as start tossing buckets of sand at the Statue of Liberty!
Rise of the Apes has a “fresh” creative crew behind it, and by fresh, I’m talking relatively green:
Rupert Wyatt is directing. The more popular of his past works is 2008′s “The Escapist.” The writer / producers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver‘s last gig was “The Relic.”

Ever felt like you wanted to be one of the Planet of the Apes movie? Maybe you have a chance with the auditions that are going on these days for Rise of the Apes, the prequel to Planet of the Apes.
Rise of the Apes takes place in of all places, present day San Francisco where a hyper-intelligent ape and from there, well, you know how it goes from there! Filming takes place in BC and Vancouver. Shooting takes place between July 5th and Sept 30th, 2010.
